I once heard an argument between two people the other day about the "new" V6 some company released that only has 245 HP while some other company's V6 can get 255 HP. I drive a 90 HP turbodiesel. It tops out at around 125 MPH. Most on ramps are long enough to get me up to 80-90 MPH. We have some huge hills around here and it's one of the only I4s I've been in that can accelerate you up the hill (torque rocks).
Diesel is much quieter on the road. Where gassers are turning 3000+ rpm I'm around 2000, and at peak torque, no downshifting.
I drive a hatchback with a 120 hp I4 gas engine. I can accelerate up a 6% grade at highway speeds with 1000 pounds of cargo, towing a 2500 pound trailer. That's more than the 2700 lbs curb weight in extra load. Granted that's at 4000 to 5500 rpm, but it's nothing special to accelerate up a hill.
And on the flat road, I hear more noise from the tires at 75 mph than the engine at 3500 rpm. Still wish I had a 6th gear for fuel economy though.
It doesn't work that way. You can get energy out of fusion and fission until you hit iron at the middle, which is at an energy well. The sun will end up a lump of iron once it finishes fusing due to this fact.
Yeah, I don't get it. Maybe because I put her site address in there to prove a point? I wouldn't say we're close friends, but we've hung out, got drunk, etc., together.
I know the girl in the first picture. She actually suffers from the myspace angle effect even though she tries to avoid it. She's very comfortable with her body (she gets paid to show it off, actually: plumpprincess.com). She'll often end up surprising dates even when she explicitly tells them she's big -- they just don't believe it. She's a catch, for the right man.
Humans can. Actually, I live in an area where temperature swings go from -50 C to 40 C on a historical annual basis (Alberta). This area is also teeming with life. I'm sure things would easily survive more extreme swings in temperature, or could certainly evolve to.
Russia has historically strong ties with India and still sells it a lot of weaponry. With the rise of a the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an emerging military alliance between Russia, China, various Central Asian countries, and now Iran, India has to choose whether to ally with her neighbors or the U.S. The stakes are pretty high geopolitically.
No need to worry here folks. SCO is already in bankrupt!
The oil companies are all still evaluating capital investment (new exploration, new development, etc.) on the assumption that the long-term price of oil is under $40 a barrel. They've got the best petroleum geologists in the world working for them; what do you know about the production situation that they don't?
They certainly know more than me. But I also know the industry would not be investing billions into alternative extraction techniques (oilsands) and alternative fuels if there were not a competitive reason for doing so. That means, one way or another, they expect the price of oil will rise to the point where the new investments will be paid for, and a profit made. Take the Athabasca oilsands. Planned capital expenditures exceed $100 billion dollars. That's one heck of an investment to call any bluff of OPEC's.
The GPL states that if you are restricted from distributing a work due to other encumbrances, you must refrain from distributing under GPL as well. It's not intended to be a rights-laundering license.
So the question is (or rather my question, since I'm sure actual legal scholars have already debated it to death) if it turns out that someone up the chain did not have the right to distribute under GPL, does that propagate down the chain to all those who unknowingly redistributed software for which the authority to actually do so was never transferred to them by someone who had it?
Yes, it propogates. If the first person was not authorized to distribute the code, then the GPL does not make it valid. As the GPL prohibits licencing encumbered code, it does not apply, thus any distributions were not made under the GPL, and thus those distributions cannot be redistributed under the GPL as the original copy was never validly released under the GPL. Of course, IANAL.
Thats right keep dropping production to drive the oil prices up. That will work for a while yet, but now everyone is gunning for them. They drove the oil prices up too high creating the incentives to start driving innovation to help eliminate them from our lives.
Did you ever consider that maybe they have no choice but to drop production? There is strong evidence to show they cannot increase production any more than they have. Also, unlike draining a lake, care must be taken to not drain an oil field too quickly. Taking the oil out too fast can dramatically lower the amount of easily recoverable oil. Global production has already peaked. The remaining known reserves are smaller and more expensive to extract.
When global demand continues to increase, the supply and demand equation will drive the price up. Furthermore, as the US dollar continues to collapse, the value of oil does not also simultaneously decrease. It's still worth the same on the global market, but costs more US dollars to buy. I fail to see how intelligent people cannot understand these concepts.
I will predict in an hour that all three of us will have been modded funny!
Way to frown on the happy parade! :(

Meanwhile at my home, I've perfected the generation of natural gas by eating the right combination of Burger King and Taco Bell.

So that would be bit fields 10010 and greater?
amorphous blobs labeled things like "p.s. this is actually Canada"
Funny, I thought amorphous blobs referred to average Americans ;-)
Om nom nom nom nomtropolis?

It wasn't that bad. Commawn, man!
But in Canada, companies cannot make contribution to political parties.
Dr Evil, is that you??
On that note, I pitch that all non-musical analogies be barred from slashdot.
Another Slashdotter expresses his masculine virility...

Here, you can borrow these!

At a bar, watching the game. Why else would they want to show the Superbowl at church? To bring God back, obviously.
Sorry to break it to you, but the rock was invented long ago. I still use it.
