In California, we have this thing called Jessica's Law. That law prohibits registered sex offenders from living a certain distance (usually 1000 ft) away from places children might congregate, such as schools, churches, playgrounds, parks, and in some cases, shopping centers.
So, if you are on the list, there are alot of places you CANNOT live. There are many cities in California where you can't live at all, simply because there is no place that is at least 1000 ft from the prohibited locations. If I was put on this list, I would be forced to sell my house and move as I live 1000 ft from a church. In fact, I would have to move out of the City I live in entirely as there is no residential areas outside of the prohibited locations.
I have been told by several police officers here in California that if you rear end someone, it is your fault, no matter what. If they slammed on their brakes in the middle of the freeway for no reason and you hit them, it is your fault. Following too close for the speed...
So what do you think about, say equipment enhancement? One athlete using a better designed shoe? Or, using a real world case, look at swimming. World Records have been falling like leaves since they introduced a new swim suit that significantly reduces drag. Should those be banned? Some athletes can afford them, others can't. Do they denigrate and tarnish the sport and the athletes themselves? Are people going to stop watching swimming now? Is the sport over?
I am not arguing for performance enhancing drugs, just that people will always seek an advantage, either through equipment, training, or drugs. A rich athlete who can spend all day every day training has an advantage over an athlete who has to work 9-5. A scientist who works at a rich university has an advantage in equipment and facilities over one who works at a poorer university. Should we force an leveling of those playing fields as well?
Do you support the continued legalization of alcohol, which is addictive, and can be argued has far worse societal effects than all other drugs?
I am not arguing for the legalization of opiates, cocaine or meth, just pointing out that your metric for determining whether something should be legal would most likely make two of our legal drugs, alcohol and nicotine, illegal.
The common meme on Slashdot is always the delusional Apple Fanboi, who loves all things Apple, no matter what. But what I see on this site more often is the exact opposite. The raving Apple Hater, who will hate all things Apple, no matter what. The time these people spend detailing their hatred amazes me.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. There are other alternatives out there to Apple products. Buy one of them.
Personally, I hate dark chocolate. I think I will go on some foodie forums and post a few pages about my hatred of dark chocolate, insisting that chocolate manufacturers make dark chocolate for my taste, and insulting all those who disagree and do like dark chocolate. I am sure that will make all the difference.
"but does not prevent two companies from each taking half of a given zip code and being the exclusive provider for that half."
Similar situation where I live, but we have 4 different cable companies, each one a monopoly in their particular portion of the zip code. Only available cable provider for me is TimeWarner, while my neighbor across the street can only get Charter. My parents, 1.5 miles away in same zip code, can only get Comcast.
Luckily I am one of the minority in this town that is close enough to get DSL, but at max 768/128, for the bargain price of $40 a month.
After playing a Horde character for a few years on a PvP server, I tried to roll an Alliance character to experience that part of the game. I never realized the sheer hatred of all things Alliance I had developed over the years. I couldn't stand it, wanted to attack every gnome I saw, had to delete the character. Jumped on my Hordie, and went to STV to gank Alliance until the dirty feelings went away.
The kids who gather the carts from the parking lot at Home Depot are called "Lot Engineers". My angry letters to HD corporate have so far gone unanswered.
"On 9/12, in his speech before Congress, Bush made it clear he was going after any country that harbored terrorists. Iraq harbored terrorists and Bush followed through. It made no difference whether they were connected to Al Queda and 9/11 - Bush's point was that if we let countries harbor terrorists, we'll eventually end up paying the price for it."
Then why didn't we attacked Saudi Arabia and Pakistan instead, and still haven't attacked them? Those countries harbor more terrorists than Iraq did. Remember, most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi.
In the county I live in, when the county Sheriff retired, it was found that he had taken home with him over the years, several hundred firearms from the evidence lockers, and it was even found that he had the deputies perform raids on people who owned guns he desired. After the story broke, he returned them, minus about a hundred that were "missing", and was not prosecuted, fined or jailed.
Due process only applies if you are not declared an "enemy combatant" at the whim of the President. Since there is no due process for that declaration, then yes, the government can, at least, can jail whoever it wants with impunity.
Unfortunately, it is not that easy where I live. Different counties in California handle the law differently, and the county I live in does not allow dispensaries, and generally ignores prescriptions and medical use excuse.
Where I live in Southern California, all the chain gas stations and liquor stores card everyone, regardless of age, for both cigarettes and alcohol. Most use those scanners.
Nice attitude, and you wonder why most car drivers hate truckers.
Long post to just say "Get out of my way!"
Of course, us "four wheelers" have just as much right to the road as you do. And it is somehow our fault that you don't leave yourself enough room to stop at a red light? I have missed entire light cycles waiting for all the big trucks to finish running the red light, and somehow it is my fault?
Obey the traffic laws, and maybe us "four wheelers" might be a little more accomodating.
In California, SUV drivers are by far the worst. Changing lanes without looking, speeding, going too slow, applying makeup/reading newspaper, etc. I have actually had a few SUV drivers tell me since their vehicle is bigger it is my responsibility to get out of their way. H2 drivers deserve a slow painful death followed by an eternity of torture in the 9th circle of hell.
You also have to drive through those immigration check points driving from San Diego to Los Angeles. Within the same state.
While the check point from California to Arizona was likely a immigration check point, the check point going from Arizona to California was more likely a "produce" inspection, making sure you are not bringing in any fruit fly invested produce.
Ok, you are the same guy who posted a quote from the Bible to justify the actions of our "authority" figures, and now you are posting that a person who wasn't wearing a helmet doesn't deserve medical treatment because it would raise your hospital bills.
You are getting your Christianity all mixed up. What happened to "love your neighbor"?
"Every person must be subject to the governing authorities, for no authority exists except by God's permission."
So we are to obey all authority because they were put in authority by God?
"For they are God's servants working for your good."
And all authority are God's servants and are working for good?
Interesting, but I am sure you will find millions of people throughout history that will disagree with that statement.
God put Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot in power, they were God's servants and always worked for good? I guess all those millions they killed were bad people.
The last five times I emailed someone on Craigslist about an item they had for sale, the response was to go look at the Ebay auction for the item. Craigslist has become a method for people to advertise their ebay auctions, not actually sell the item directly. In all five cases, the auction was posted before the craiglist ad.
You are kidding, right?

How about not playing the game 24 hours a day? Nothing will be fresh and challenging if you do it continuously for 6 weeks.

"I can't imagine why a bar or restaurant would use one of these devices."
Then you have a pretty bad imagination because where I live, you would have a hard time finding a bar or restaurant without one of these devices.

Of course, you can only claim that Aliens have not tried to contact us by ignoring all of the millions who say they have.
Millions of people claim to have seen UFO's, or claim to have been abducted by aliens.
I could just as easily ignore the millions claiming an experience with God as I could the millions claiming an experience with aliens.

Glad to see that you were able to internally justify your theft. Doesn't make it any less wrong, of course.
God, people will bitch about anything. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Buy each part from Steam and pay more if you don't want to "re buy" HL2 and EP1.
