Okay this has been bothering me for awhile.
Ever since Penny-Arcade talked about shills, it seems like everyone is calling everyone a shill. Marketers like G&W aren't shills, they're just marketers.:Conspiracy theory alert:
It seems like guys not unlike Gabe and Tycho, who create a huge backing of respectful PA-like fans who talk about how good a certain game is on their blogs or webforums are the ones who most resemble the PA described shills.
now I suppose I'll have to take the karma hit from some rabid PA fans. . .
For the record, I too am a PA fan. I just wish people wouldn't take their word for god ALL THE TIME, Moderation people! moderation!.
I mean, win98 is 8 years old. . . That's OLDER than most people who use web browsers these days! If we don't remove support for old stuff like that then there will never be any room for new things.
I'm not saying that every time something new comes out that everyone should upgrade, but when there's a significant change to a significant change from the old software (vista to xp to win2k/98) then I'd say its about time to abandon those who seem unwilling to change.
On the contrary, I think the unlocks in battlefield are one of the stronger reasons why I enjoy the game. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy playing the game (when I'm not frustrated out of my mind) but having something to look forward to, and having a good group of players to play with (aka La Cantina regulars) are the two greatest reasons for me to continue playing.
I hope this is an elaborate ruse because I'm sure the reason why us kids have "shitty 398K sounds" is because you old guys have "blasted out eardrum from being fools and cranking all their old stereos to like 900db"
I hope you have fun in your adult diapers, complaining about those damn kids on your lawn in like 10 years.
Jeeze, and I thought he killed himself after losing his son to videogames and went around the US on a killing spree of all the video game software company execs. . .

If the original owner was foolish enought to leave skivvy shots and gay porn on the hard drive, then he deserves to get owned like that.
I think it is easy to say, "look I'm better than the game developers! I made this mod that changes the text to something I think suits the game, not what they thought." When you had to spend maybe a few days on a tiny morsel of the game's entire code. The Devs had to think about every single aspect of the game when devoting time to that game.
I don't see why you guys have to turn a non-gaming issue into a gaming issue. Its really not the game developers who are leaving people's computer systems defenseless.
I'd finish what I was saying if I weren't so tired.
Actually I found that whole side quest in Deus Ex 2 about the coffee shops very amusing. Basically, the big commercialist "starbucks style" store was forcing the little family owned coffee shop out of business. Sure it wasn't really product placement, but I couldn't help draw the comparisons on my own. . . then I wanted a starbucks:_( so it worked I guess. . .
yeah, that game's called ASL. . . Advanced Squad Leader. . . its a table-top simulator. . . a few friends of mine tryed to figure it out one night, took them 5 hours just to go through the "manual" to figure out how to start.
isn't Ubisoft in charge of marketing Ubisoft games on Nintendo's platform?
So simply put, Nintendo is targeting Wii to a wide audience. Ubisoft (being mostly "hardcore" games maker) is targeting the hardcore audience, presumably to get a foothold as the "killer app". On a side note, When's the last time you heard a casual gamer say "killer app"?
oh come on, that doesn't happen. Even if it did happen, you're a horrible parent if you download copys of children's movies on the interweb.
also, there is an excessive market for $0.75 pirated DVDs in China. i.e. people buy lots of them. 2 x.75 = ?
thats right, for the cost of 2 questionably well done pirated copies you can have one authentic copy.
It reminds me of a couple chinese pirated movies I got in China. . . The Tahor of Panama Goideneye 007 Regally Blonde I kid you not, those were the names on the discs. . .
The reason they aren't trying it anywhere else is because there is no market for bootlegged copies of movies.
I have to agree. Honestly, when I bought my 360 I wasn't too excited about it because of the launch titles (though I do enjoy a few of them) but I was blown away at the sheer amount of extra things that I didn't think I cared about.
It's come to the point that Someone Who Isn't Me pirated a copy of Windows Media Centre just to get the streaming video to round out the features on his Furnace 360.
there are plenty more blood, sweat, and tears jobs for the gold farmers to have if they really need it. Hell, I bet the majority of the gold farmers are people who have regular jobs and just farm on the side for whatever commission they earn. Either that or they don't have regular jobs and just do it for the little extra income, but I can tell you that i'd eat my PC if a gold farmer was actually supporting a family.
On another note I'd like to see a fixed commidity based on national production and trade in some of these game worlds. Where people who want to "gold farm" actually mint money and trade with other nations to generate the money. Everyone else contributes by either making the trade items or finding them during dungeon crawls, etc. Or even if you could raid other nations' stockpiles. I suppose the only way to do that though is to force people to play the game right, so you'd have to have like 24/7 griefer ban or something.

Yay now I get to play with vintage wii and all for a decent price too!

maybe its just a delayed response. . .
but Firefox will still be cooler Open Source. . . It's what the cool kids are doing.

I'm sure you can hear the "whoosh" as that flies over the heads of many slashdotters. It's sad but true.
Chuck Norris does, but his goes to infinity twice.

I imagine as eternal punishment, Microsoft will clone his DNA and make a clone army of code monkeys that will do M$'s bidding for all eternity.
obviously neutral evil. . . though it looks like with this generation they're trying hard to reroll.

while you raise an excellent point, the market for bootlegged anime isn't near the magnitude of bootlegged "hollywood" in China.

don't be a troll.
It would also suck for that one time you bite your tongue while chewing your food. . .
