regardless, this opens them up to more C&D letters. While hosting BT files and trackers may be legal, I doubt Pirate Bay can afford to prove it in court. Legality doesn't even factor in anymore. As soon as the MPAA sees a hole to jump through, they'll shove a C&D letter through it, and it'll all be over.
Russia isn't much better. While you have your freedom, pretty much the only way to get an ISP is to become indebted to the mob. I can't say that would be a hell of a lot of fun....
Absolutely ridiculous that the law is this severe, that I have to pray for people overseas because they might get caught sending hash and checksum info to other people online, and thus go to prison. I can't wait for the death penalty, then I'll finally lose hope in mankind.
That's the first thought/fear that crossed my mind when I read this story. Anakata has been pretty sure of Pirate Bay's legality thus far. Pirate Bay hasn't been my FAVORITE torrent site of all time in the past, but it's always seemed to me as a site that was "safe" from American legal bullshit.
an episode of MST3K where in one of the side-show scenes, Dr. Forsberg's assistant built a virtual comedian device. He did fairly well, while wearing Dr. Forsberg-like glasses and hair. That is, until Dr. Forsberg came back from vacation, and exacted his revenge by "Inserting a couple of drunken hecklers", and watched the man cry.
um, no. That's a standard abbreviation, since long before Jurassic Park was ever written. Elementary Science Teachers used that term a lot when I was a youngin'. Also, the book wasn't written by Spielberg. Who, by the way, while I don't particularly like the man, I'm pretty sure that he knows how to spell words. Incompetence doesn't generally get people to where he is now.
while I realize your comment was formed for comical purpose, you inadvertantly bring up an interesting point (Congrats!). While people are still pretty sure of what dinosaurs looked like, and what they ate, etc., if we were able to use this DNA to clone dinosaurs, we would finally know EXACTLY what these things looked like (well, at least what a T-Rex really looked like....maybe they need to go smash up a few museum exhibits and see what else they find). I for one have a mixed feeling about the whole cloning idea. On one hand, it would be REALLY COOL to see one of these things in real life! On the other hand, there are far too many unknowns with these damn things. For all we actually know, these fuckers could be capable of intelligent thought! Starts to scare me a little bit to think about all of the things that we used to take for granted with these things since we didn't have to worry about it.
All the same, I'd hate to have that poor T-Rex in a cage while Jeff Goldblum watches it poop.
And maybe they'll let me use an ftp server, and not fuck me in the ass with their disallowance of game servers too. Its really hard to play online games that require you to be the host every now and then...

precisely. Those are some of the few "big things" about it too. There are plenty of smaller attributes to Halo that people don't consider, like how they've slowed down the action considerably compared to other fps games. Or that the energy shield element makes the learning curve so incredibly flexible. There are too many things that set this game apart from other fps games, that to dissect it according to the rest of the genre is ridiculous.
Have you ever worked in a Citrix environment? Have you ever experienced using a thin-client for the course of a year or more? You might want to consider that fact that the computer is nothing more than a TOOL and not a decoration.
You know nothing about the Adult Swim scene then. Adult Swim shows were created mostly by guys with a hell of a lot of free time and creativity, and most of their cast WERE literally picked up off the street. You just didn't happen to be in the right place at the right time to become part of the "cartoon world", same as me.
Now, make no mistake, this interview sucks unholy ass.....ass that needs redemption like none other....but I really don't think all the blame could be placed on chris. I think a heavy amount of blame can be put on the fact that highly modded posts got put in the interview, and not GOOD questions that were posted. A good example is "Who the fuck are you, and why do I care?" Wow, that's a great question that could be answered by a google search. Glad I waited two weeks so that guy could find out what I already know. Glad he couldn't just avoid a topic he knew nothing about. Glad he got modded up and put in the interview.
Here's a post I made originally: As a long time fan of Adult Swim, I have to say that I admire the creative ability of most of the people that work on the shows. As such, I know that a lot of you guys do voice acting for much more than just one character on one show. SOOOO, we know that you did Hesh, MC Pee Pants, and Sir Loin (which was still MCPP, but oh well), but who else have you been on the Adult Swim block in the past? Which show have you had the most fun on (I won't limit this to just Sealab and ATHF)? And if you don't get in trouble for telling us, are we due for a return of MC Pee Pants on ATHF in the near or distant future?
This post didn't receive a single mod point, and as such, it never got posed. Through all the over 400 posts that I looked through, I couldn't find one that better posed this question, and one that I really wanted to know that answer to. Now I'm not going to bitch about not getting my question asked. I could care less about that NOW (Since it was a 1, I assumed it wasn't going to be asked). But how in the blue fuck did "Who the fuck are you, and why should I care?" Get posed instead of something I might care about?
Or, to go along with the lame-ass questions: why the fuck was this a Slashdot interview to begin with, and in the event of future interviews, based on the method of choosing questions to pose our interviewees, why the fuck should I ever care?
You're not a purist, you're just someone who thinks that a game controller is just as precise and easy to use as the mouse/keyboard combo. In which case you would be wrong. Halo 2 is slow for a REASON.
You're 100% right to be concerned. Some of the older guys here might remember the video game crash back in the early 80's. Atari sold out a lemon system that had horrible-ass games compared to what you could play in the arcade. As a result, they threw out a newer console not too much longer after that, with better specs. But the generation of people they were selling to were used to living with most of their appliances without ever replacing them, such as TV's, radios, etc. People didn't buy the new system, and they stopped buying atari games. The video game market looked horrible, and it looked like the PC was going to be the only gaming platform at all.
To shorten up on the short history lesson, Nintendo showed up with a system that was so innovational, cool, and powerful, that the masses of Americans had to have it. I think we all know what it was called.....
To make my point: I think we've come to a point in time where the average consumer is now used to throwing away old appliance for newer, better appliance. I also think that these three new consoles are going to be so incredibly powerful and innovational that I think they'll be a huge success. I think people have had Xbox's, PS2's, and GC's long enough. While all three are still currently good systems, I think people are ready for a change. The ONLY thing I'm concerned about is the price of the consoles. The Sony PSP didn't impress me price-wise, and has me geared for some horrible price for their new console. The nex-gen Xbox's specs are so far out of this universe that I sincerely doubt I'll be able to afford it until its 5 years old. The Nintendo Revolution, however....looks like it might be the bargain buy console yet again.....
there are some machines that know better, however. I've noticed a lot lately, that when I say "credit" when using my debit card, that the machine will still ask me for my PIN. At first I thought the cashier was just ignoring me and looking at the card (which has happened, and really pissed me off when it did), but its happened too many times now at too many stores with too many different cashiers.
Better yet! If you're skinny enough (like me) you can wrap the headphones around one of your thighs, and then listen to your music via that super-duper "expansion jack"! And the iPod is just as useless there as it is when you have the headphones strapped to your head, because you have to take it off to do anything! Who wouldn't want that??
You guys are far too critical of this advancement of super-scientificalness.
In what way is my ISP responsible for what I do on the internet? I don't know about you, but I don't pay my ISP to protect me and my privacy. I pay my ISP to provide a pipe, and nothing more.
Another thing to consider is how hard it is these days to find a game that is really "good" before you've spent a few hundred bucks going through the newest games before you find the "one". Sure, there's plenty of review sites and magazines, but that is, obviously, opinionated. Not only that, their revenue doesn't just come from their users/readers.....
Quite frankly, one of the few things that I can really look at and use for comparison is user reviews, and the age-old method of renting a game out. Unless you're a subscriber for Gamefly, it can be really expensive. The cheapest place in town charges a little less than 5 bucks a rental for games, and hell, if you find the one you want, you're still paying another 50 if its new. Let's assume that you DO have a subscription to Gamefly. That's a hefty amount of cash every month too, and the amount of games you need to play every month to make it worthwile is hardly what I would call casual gaming.
I'm sorry, I know this is going to really piss some people off here at slashdot, but I actually LIKE those little ads on the sidebar that are specified to what I'm searching for. Especially when I'm attempting to find something I want to buy. There has been many a time when I'm trying to find something via Google, or I get an email special in my Gmail account, that the links on the side take me to something even better. Not all ads are neccessarily scams. I mean, its not like they're installing software on my computer, so I just really don't see the point in arguing over this. To me, it really ENHANCES my search for products more than it hinders.
If Microsoft sees this, and they see that it'll bring in some more revenue, why SHOULDN'T they try something like this?
I would love to see Apple come through for us on this one too. Imagine yet another download service: iFlicks (totally made that up, so if it's real, I'm sorry), which will give you a vast database of movies available to download. What's more, Apple has a few thousand servers installed for the one purpose of seeding certain torrents (like the ones that have tons of leechers, no seeds, and a bunch of depressed individuals). Then, Apple does something that only Apple has done before, and only Apple has the brains to do it: They talk to people, ask them what they'll pay for a downloaded movie. People say (shot in the dark) 5 dollars a movie. $5!!!! Apple sets the price to $5, and starts up the iFlicks movie store. 5 months later, they come out with a new device, that has a small screen on it. They call it the iPonder (made up as well for the sake of discussion), and its capable of extracting those movies from your hard drive, and put them on its 160GB hard drive. But its also capable of plugging into your entertainment center via many methods, so that you can watch the movies on your TV. They price the iPonder at a modest $499 initially.
Now, I don't know of anything where Apple has said they were going to do ANY of this. But....wouldn't it be a good idea? I mean, sure, maybe some of the particulars I have in there could be left out, like the thousand servers, cuz those cost hella cash. But if there was a company that you could see pulling something like this off by actually doing their market research, creating the database, technology, software, and device to make this a prime competitor in the movie market, wouldn't it be Apple?
And one more thing. The MPAA shouldn't be setting the price on JACK SHIT. If they do, I hope it opens the eyes of a few people in our legal system to the fact that they are a true blue cartel. Last time I checked, those things were illegal to form......
Very good point, you're after my own heart with all of that! To compound, however, I must say that I feel that this is the reason why the other game companies keep shifting to bullshit instead of real game material. While most people think that the market rules all, or that the evil big corporation is destroying life as we know it, the truth of the matter is that we have too many dumbass consumers that screw themselves over consistently. And instead of practicing some consuming self control, we blame big media companies for "Making us give our money to them." If they stop making money, they see cause to change. If the cash flow stays steady, they really couldn't give a shit.
I've consistenly heard from people that they don't want a gamecube because its graphics aren't up to par. Who's been selling this shit? Gamecube graphics aren't the BEST, but they are high-ranking regardless. I own all three major consoles, and when I don't feel like playing a game one day, for whatever reason, picking up that gamecube controller and playing a gamecube game tends to give off that feeling of "Ah, that feels better." There is something about the control design and graphics of the gamecube that is relaxing, entertaining, and soothing all at the same time.
regardless, this opens them up to more C&D letters. While hosting BT files and trackers may be legal, I doubt Pirate Bay can afford to prove it in court. Legality doesn't even factor in anymore. Okay, so it wasn't....but it STILL hurts my feelings that you said that!!!

My contract just disappeared....
actually, the adult swim block is only 2-4 hours long, depending on what day it is, if its a holiday, etc. Your exaggeration is pointless.
KILL HIM!!!! *chases with a torch, which quickly dies out* Aw dammit.....
