Yeah, because the wives love it when you invite everyone over and then all the guys go huddle in the basement and play Halo.
It's clear there's a divide here: Married adults and single adults. I'd guess the OP is in the former category, whereas many of the people responding are in the latter or, at the very least, are recently married and have no children.
Try just randomly getting together with your friends when you're all married with kids. I still have small lan parties, but they have to be planned 2-3 months in advance, and stuff still comes up. Like the last one where one of the wives went into labor.
How is a "resounding consensus" on "moderately to significantly" any different than "whether the observable changes are predominantly attributable to man's impact on the environment, or to the natural climatic lifecycle of the Earth"?
You're just saying what tygerstripes said in a slightly different way, throwing in the worthless and exceedingly unscientific word "consensus". If it's attributable predominantly to man, then it is significant, if it's attributable predominantly to nature, then it is moderate.
That is completely absurd. Even thermometers hundreds of years ago could accurately measure temperatures to better than 1 degree accuracy.
I work for one of the leading global suppliers of meteorological equipment. The issue isn't with how accurate the sensors can be, it's if they are being properly calibrated and maintained. In the US we do a fairly good job, although if a sensor is reporting off by a degree or two it is within accepted functional range and will pass any inspection.
This is what I was thinking. It's just that the signs of this happening are as clear as they are present. Are we the first ones to notice this? No. But it is clear that it is happening and will continue to happen.
Army of Two: The 40th Day is a pretty underrated game in my opinion. Playing through the game in split screen is quite fun.

Connect via MIDI? Did you mean serial or parallel cables?
Indeed. Halo Reach on Legendary is quite difficult.

Does this kill the idea that some South Americans got here by sailing across the Pacific?

To the (possibly ignorant) observer that just looks like a bunch of people pirating cable to me.
Fortunately that comment hasn't been modded at all.

That's so last week. Fiji's coup is all the rage now.
Actually, no, I'm a Yankee.

Man, I forgot about that game (seriously). I may have to fire up my C64 tonight.
Worst. Post. Ever.
You getting modded down shows how ignorant most slashdotters are.

Clearly, global warming is causing this lack of hurricanes and major storms.
Why not? It gets blamed for everything else.
I'll make it simple for you:
We consume 25-30% of the world's RESOURCES.
We produce a slightly higher percentage of the world's GOODS.
Therefore, we are a fairly efficient country with the resources we consume.
And one more time... RESOURCES != GOODS
This doesn't mean we are exporting more than we are importing. In fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with that.
And we'll still have plenty of room and resources to spare. What's your point, exactly?
