I said the same thing in one of the thread's about Microsoft yesterday. I've never been able to understand why the government doesn't go after Apple the same way they go after Microsoft. Apple has very similar business practices when it comes to bundling. The bundle just about every piece of softwar you can ever think of in OS X. Also when it comes to the iPod they've unfairly used their dominance in the market to try to push their medi player/store on people (pretty much the same way Microsoft used Windows to push IE on people instead of alternatives). I really don't understand why the net seems pro-Apple and anti-Microsoft. The way I see it, they're pretty much two sides to the same coin.
(Yes I know I'm probably going to get modded down for this. However, things like this need to be said every once in a while.)
OK take Macs out of this equation. Nobody has seriously threatened sanction Apple over their anti-competitive and monopolistic practices when it comes to the iPod. As far as I'm concerned, it's the same thing Microsoft does.
Now I really don't care one way or the other, but I've always wonder why Apple never gets sued over these types of things. The bundle just about everything you can think of into OS X, and up until recently you couldn't even install another OS on a Mac if you wanted to. Why don't they get looked at for noncompetetive and monopolistc practices?
Blu-Ray has Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, Harry Potter, 300, Ratatouille, Simpsons, The Bourne Ultimatum, All 4 Die Hard movies, Knocked Up, Oceans 13, Fantastic Four 2, Surf's Up (never underestimate DVD sales on a kid's movie like this), Rush Hour 3, etc.
I think you need to get your facts straight. Lets go through that list of movies:
1. Pirates 3 - Disney so it is Blu-Ray exclusive
2. Spiderman 3 - Sony so it is Blu-Ray exclusive
3. Harry Potter - WB format neutral. In fact many of us are already enjoying the 4th Harry Potter movie on HD DVD
4. 300 - WB format neutral but with a better feature set on the HD DVD
5. Ratatouille - Disney so it is Blu-Ray exclusive
6. Simpsons - Fox so it is Blu-Ray exclusive
7. The Bourne Ultimatum - Universal so it is HD DVD exclusive
8. Die Hard - Fox so it is Blu-Ray exclusive
9. Knocked Up - Universal so it is HD DVD exclusive
10. Oceans 13 - WB so it is format neutral
11. Fantastic Four- I'm not sure on this one. It might be Blu-Ray exclusive since it is a Fox movie, but the first one was as well and it is available for import on HD DVD, so I'm going to guess this movie will be format neutral
12. Surf's Up - Sony so it's Blu-Ray exclusive
13. Rush Hour 3 - WB so it is format neutral
As you can see less than half of the movies you listed are exclusive to Blu-Ray. I say the race is pretty even now.
I know there's been talks about the two companies merging to deal with financial trouble that was incured from startup costs. Does anyone else think that the FCC might let them merge if and only if they allow the FCC to oversee what they put on the air. The FCC already has too much power this won't help any. We need to go to European type standards, not make ours even stricter.
Where I come from, during the 16-bit era, everyone was going to go play "Sega" no matter which system they were playing. During the 8-bit era it was Nintendo, and during the past two generations is has been "Playstation". I can only speak from experience but that's the way I've always heard it.
The thing is that Nintendo doesn't have the kind of brand recognition any more that you think they do. Sure in the 80's "Nintendo" meant videogames, but then "Sega" meant videogames, and now "Playstation" means video games. They are no longer the "Band-Aid" of the videogame world that they once were.
The difference between Brain Age and the DS and the Xbox and Halo is the fact that the DS doesn't seem to "need" a system selling game. It's been selling quite well on it's own without one defined "system seller". The Xbox on the other hand needed Halo. Without Halo it would've suffered the same fate as the NEO-GEO, Jaguar, and more recently the PSP and N-Gage.
I would argue that Nintendo is the one that first tapped into the "Casual Gamer" market when they released Tetris on the Gameboy 10 years ago. Nintendo knows how to reach the casual gamer, and they've figured out that they need to reach that segment of the population to thrive. I think that had Nintendo kept trying to market to the hardcore as Sony and Microsoft have not only would they have continued to only reach second or third place in the console market, but they might have fallen behind in the handheld market as well. Also there is a very real chance that without the growth that the new casual gamers bring that we could've been headed toward another video game crash such as the one in the late 70's/early 80's.
I can't wait to grid with Sam so I can finally get to lvl 60 and leap into Lee Harvey Oswald!

What backlash? Could you give us some examples of this backlash you are talking about. As far as I, and a lot of other people are concerned, this is a good price. You get the Wii onec controller and a game for half the price of the base PS3. Ad on another controller+numchuck and 4 more games and you're still only equalling the price of the base PS3. The only way I could see this backfiring is if Micrsoft announces a 360 price drop, but I son't see that happen. They may put out a holiday bundle but I don't see a price drop coming any time soon.
I know this is a little off topic but FF6 is being released for the GBA this holiday season. At that time you will able to play all the Final Fantasy games 1-6 on the Nintendo DS (1,2,4,5,6 via the GBA slot and 3 as a DS game).
They have repeatedly said that it will not launch until the 4th Quarter this year. I don't see any reason this should change. However, I do see an early October launch as a possibility. It would still be in Quarter 4. In fact October 1st is a Sunday , and ass we all know Nintendo loves to release consoles on Sundays. We'll just have to wait and see.
the wii will pretty much be in the same boat, at least in terms of emulating the GC if teh wii processor isnt that much more faster than the GC.
The Wii isn't using a software solution for GCN backward compatibility. Since the Wii hardware is basically an extension of the GCN the Wii will be using a hardware solution to play GCN games while using a software solution for all other platforms.
I think you're a little delusional if you think that the PS3 is going to have anywhere near full backward compatibility. The PS2 doesn't even have full backward compatibility with PS1 games and it isn't using a software solution like the PS3 will be. Personally I see them having just as many bugs and non-playable games as Microsoft has at this point. It seems to me that the only console that will come close to having "full" backward compatibility is the Wii (yes I know it uses a software solution for games from the NES, SNES, N64, TGX, and Gen, but compare emulation of an NES to emulation of a PS2 and you'll see the difference).
LSL might not be yet, but all of the old lucas arts games run perfectly in SCUMMvm. There's nothing better than a lazy afternoon with Day of the Tentacle.
How exactly do they plan on innovating with their next 40 installments of Madden and NCAA Football? Seriously, EA is the king of beat a dead horse. I think this is the first time I've actually seen EA and innovation in the same sentence.
I wonder how this compares to the amount of data that is transferred via the trackers that a site like empornium or pirate bay indexes? That would be a comparison figure I'd like to see.
People actually pay for Windows? Seriously though, the only people who pay full price for Windows are suckers. I've got at least four or five legit copies of Windows in my Den and I didn't pay retail for any of them. It's worth going to college just to get cheap software if you want my opinion.
Tell me how many minutes you played Warhawk... that's what I thought.
The lag in that demo was more in the video playback setup they were using. I played warkhawk for 15mins or so at E3. I was weaving in and out of things and spinning around. I would like it better if you could do loop-da-loops before it hits retail. It's still a work in progress anyway. =)
So now you're assuming I didn't play Warhawk at E3? You're also saying that TFA and almost every other source that's reviewed the new feature of the PS3 controller is wrong? You must know a lot more than a lot of other people out there.
I think that makes total sense. I don't know about you but i spend most of my wanking hours on-line. Too much information?
we spend most of hour waking ours on-line
Fixed it for you!
It would be better if you actually fixed it instead of just making it worse.
It should read: "we spend most of our waking hours on-line"

I know as much as any other Playstation 3 developer that went to E3.
Which unless you work for the Warhawk development team doesn't seem to be a whole hell of a lot when it comes to their controller "innovation".
Tell me how many minutes you played Warhawk... that's what I thought.
