Well, it's a lot easier to just make a.torrent file than a tracker as well.
Let's say I make a small video program ala Pure Pwnage, and wish to distribute it. If all I have is some crappy geocities site or something, and my video series is mildly popular, a trackerless torrent may be just what the doctor ordered.
My only worry is that the average, everday consumer will see Linux only on low end machines and equate the operating system with cheapness. And I don't mean "cheap" as in cost, but in terms of quality.
"I really can't stand arguments like yours, they are weak and unrefined."
Then I'll try to explain my feelings better.
I don't think I understand how developing countries will really benefit. I highly doubt that at 100 dollars a pop these governments are just going to start handing them out en masse, and if they did would these countrys have the infrastructure to handle them? It seems like giving these countries wagons before they have wheels.
I don't really like it how people do anything for a devolping country and everbody's like "WOW! THAT'S FANTASTIC!" without trying to critically examine it. A lot of [developing] countries have HUGE problems with government corruption, and it just seems hard for me to believe that these countries would use this offer for their citizen's benefit.
If it came bundled with popular operating system(s), was easy too use, look pretty, and was fairly inexpensive, it might go over. A lot of people actually buy movies, just look at DVD sales.
I doubt people just buy them to be honest, the're just too lazy (or not well equiped) to pirate them. If it's easy, and it looks glossy people don't mind being relieved of there cash.
