Funny that Microsoft software that nobody has asked before.
I feel sorry for you. You really should try Dexpot or VirtuaWin. Virtual desktops *really* improve productivity (as the AC post said before).
Except that the virtual desktop software offered by microsoft really sucks. But fortunately there are free and even Open Source versions that work like a charm.
I have to add the fact that in my experience VNC is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW and not really useful in less than 512kbps connections (on both sides).
Whereas Citrix connections are in contrast really smooth (T1[UK, University link] -->56kpbs [Mexico] modem). I do not know much about the underlying technology of both of them but AFAI can tell, VNC tries to download/display the whole screen as an image while Citrix only carries the GDI information. X11 might be similar but AFAIK there is no X11 server for iPhone yet...
You move in a new city, all by yourself, you have to pay your mortgage with money that you earn by _working_, you learn to participate in the cultural life of the town by donating to the museum, you have to take care of public space, plant trees and flowers to make a great place for everybody.
Yay! a game in which I have to get in a job and have good society skills in order to win??
Thanks for the review... I will absolutely avoid it. You know, as they say... I prefer to get a first life.
Also why would I want to be waving my arms at my CRT or LCD screen?
Just earlier today I was thinking about this. I believe that one possible sollution to the "gorilla arm" syndrome is to put the monitor in the place of the keyboard, and move the keyboard a bit down.
The second issue to address (all this IMHO) is the visual feedback. I believe that in order to make touch-based interaction feel more natural, the applications will have to present the information in a more familiar way.
In general, I believe that touch computing can be real and can have advantages as well, however, I also believe that using touch computing does not directly means keyboardless computing as they serve a different purpose.
I kind of don't like the idea of doing a transcode to another compression format because of the potential of substantial sound quality loss if the transcoding isn't done properly.:-(
OMG... there should be a "Lossless compression for dummies" and you should deffinitely read it.
FLAC compression is similar to ZIP, RAR, GZ, etc compression in that the files you get contain the same information (e.g. music) as the ISO (if ripped from a CD) or the source from where it was compressed.
"Transcoding" from FLAC to say, OGG Vorbis is the same as compressing from the raw WAV (or ISO image if you like) to your favorite vorbis quality. Therefore there is absolutely no quality loss, by definition.
So, "transcoding not done properly" is only a matter of the encoder you use (Lame, xyph.org, aotuv, etc) and will give you the same quality as if encoding the same audio from an original CD.
That reminded me of a joke I read somewhere, sometime (please someone add the reference):
What is the difference between hardware and software?
* Hardware are such things in a computer that you can kick when your 5 hour work vanishes after an error. * Software are such things that you can just swear at.
"Want to be my research assistant? Then sign this. Yes, your work becomes my property." "Oh, don't like that?... Professors and students are not partners. It doesn't work that way. You are not "getting a job" you are "getting an education".
Are you aware that Research Assistants are not students?,
RAs have obtained their PhDs degree and are therefore considered qualified researchers.
A Research Assistant position is a paid-for work, contract between whatever University (or Research Institution) and the RA.
I think there is quite a lot of content at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ which can consume those 10MBps... and from what I remember when using it (while I lived in the UK), it is quite easy to use for Fred Bloggs.
English but from American English to British English? And most have to wait months for the game to come to Europe or vice versa.
But if I recall correctly, usually the UK games also contain Spanish and French localization data. Therefore, you actually have to wait until they translate it to all those languages (and not only adding the u's to American english).
You should read that quote more closely. I know from my wife (who used to work in a call center) how that stuff works.
Usually their paid time starts when their computer boots, however, the general idea of a "call center" is to sit waiting for someone to call. People usually do nothing while they are waiting (some of them do puzzles or talk to each other, if it is not prohibited).
The problem with such jobs is that, after pressing the computer button, they can't do many "productive" things (related to their work).
On the other hand, you should understand that, their bosses ask them to arrive 10 or 15 minutes earlier in order to turn on the computers, as they *need* to be ready at 8:00 sharp.
Therefore, from my point of view, it is time spent in the work that they could spent in bed, and therefore it must be paid (or, as another poster said, the bosses should look for a way to turn on computers automatically in the morning).
don't envy the poor bastard who has to test this theory. Somehow... relating the idle picture with your comment made my mind eyes cry... blood tears....you insensitive clod!
Let window management be handled by the window manager.
I think that is the reason why some people bitch about the GIMP interface. I used to bitch about it too, when I was using the GIMP on Windows.
The problem is that the default window management in Micorsoft Windows is awful, reduced to minimze, maximize and restore. Therefore, using the GIMP there is an absolute hell.
In contrast, when using The GIMP on Linux, you have several other functions like Virtual Desktops, always on top, always on back, pin to all desktops, among others.
That is why I would suggest getting something like Dexpot or other decent window manager for Windows which provides some of such features (I use VirtuaWin, unfortunately it only provide the virtual desktops and no other functions).
Just wanted to second the opinion that, if the majority of Mac users as douche bags as parent, then I am very very happy owning my HP with Ubuntu and XP.
Alternatively, you can buy music in small stores, in cash. In that case, it's better to wear sunglasses and a hat
Hey!, I do that everytime I buy a new Britney Spears CD... ...for my girlfriend that is... of course.

they will get one or two more emails, perhaps accompanied by slower service from the provider. Finally, the ISP may cut off their access altogether.
And after that, the customer will stop paying the provider and go to whatever any other ISP...

you could start by contributing "simple text loading" to dsLibris

Perfect explaniation for mom and dad :)

You might be thinking of PhD Students.
I must second that, Russel and Norvig book is one of the most important books.
I would also recommend:
Artificial Intelligence: A new Synthesis from Nills J. Nilson, who is considered one of the founders of A.I.

Matlab, not Maple. Clearly it's time for a coffee.
He is talking about This maple

This is apparently due to an on-going site redesign, but right now the usual URL simply directs to a stock Sourceforge page
Doesn't the FIRST link at the top of the "stock sourceforge page" tells you anything?
1. If you connect to the VPN and place your own machine's IP onto our network.
Does that refer to Intelectual Property (e.g. pr0n)or an address??
Even the guy who wrote the Remote Access policy for SANS thinks it's a joke.
[citation needed]
I was going to mod this funny... but I rather share the joke with others...
Go ahead and read parent post with the voice of Comic Book Guy.
Fantastic!

it has no equal on any OS, and works on all three!
I think it is also available for that thing called Windows.

I hope you don't... it seems this thread woke up all the Mac zealot trolls.
Who picked up the stone? they are coming out like ants!

What a complete douche bag.
