For sure this happens when copying files to/from Windows Home Server via Vista. What took me MINUTES from my XP laptop took HOURS on my NEW Vista Laptop.
I haven't tried duplicating this behavior DIRECTLY to the XP machine, but I will do so.
This morning I received an email regarding pre-orders sometime after 10am GMT-6. I immediately called the six closest retail locations & they were ALL already out of pre-orders.
Why not send the email out DAYS ahead of time?
Oh well, I was just going to use the EBAY profits to fund my Wii.
#1: If you saw LCD's with better black levels than DLP, then either the DLP model sucked or more likely the STORE set the brightness levels WAY up to attract attention to the TV's.
#2: Plasmas. The biggest problem I have with these is the concern of burn-in. Over at AVSforums there's lots of threads dealing with this, but the jist of it is that you have to be careful for the first 1000 hours or so at LEAST. The biggest issue is watching ANYTHING that puts black bars on the screen or shows that put logos/newsrunners on the screen. i.e. Fox/CNN
For my money, if you CAN'T see the rainbows go for DLP. Personally I'm leaning towards LCOS based on tweaking the settings of in-store models.
but in that case, Nintendo isn't really competing in the same sphere as Microsoft and Sony.
That's exactly what they've been trying to tell people for YEARS!
It's funny that you mention A.I. too, becaust that's EXACTLY what developers are complaining about regarding the 360. They claim that these types of things are HARDER to do, all because the hardware is made to pump out polygons at high resolutions.
I got an email from Comcast today talking about how they've changed their DNS, & MY VOIP is down at the moment too. Don't know if they're related, but I bet that I manually assigned the old DNS info into my VOIP equipment when I first got it.
Perhaps this is what's happening to everyone else?
Do a quick search for this device on the net & be prepared to hear about terrible compatibility problems ranging from graphic anomolies, off-key sound, to total incompatibility.
While this device looks great, I fear that it's functionality will leave a lot to be desired.
Won't be as good? I suppose they won't look as good graphically, but that did't stop people from purchasing inferior looking games on the PS2.(less powerful than both gamecube & xbox)
Still, ease of programming is probably not the problem. With games targeting hi-def on the PS3 & 360, how much time will it take to tailor the art resources to work on the Revolution?
I agree.
I played 'Ocarina of Time' & 'The Wind Waker' back-to-back, & the story/plot isn't any more mature in OOT than in TWW.
Did Link look "Cartoony" in TWW? Sure, but do you refuse to watch cartoons simply because of the medium or do you choose based on content? Off the top of my head I can name cartoons that appeal to many age groups:
The Simpons
Futurama
Gargoyles
Batman The Animated Series
Superman ""
Justice League
While I may PREFER the "realistic" look to Zelda, I would have only been robbing myself of a fantastic game if I had boycotted The Wind Waker over something as inconsequential as the graphics.
"...We realize that by not providing HD-DVD by default it will give the Playstation 3 a significant advantage in game content and as such we need to tell all the Xbox faithfull that it really isn't that important..."
Please, how many PS3 games do you think will really NEED more than 9GB of data? Even if there's more than a handful, would it really be worth the cost of putting 1st gen Blu-ray or HD-DVD drives?
Both home-theatres AND your local cineplex have their place IMHO. Since most of the arguments are AGAINST the cineplex I'll argue for it.
- Cell phones may be annoying, but are you suggesting that you don't get calls at home?
- Sure you can pause the movie for a potty break, but is there a reason MOST people can't hold it for roughly 2 hours?
- Besides, I see movies as an escape. Pausing the movie just snaps me back to reality.
- Seeing a popular movie with hundreds of other people can be a GOOD thing too! I usually enjoy comedies more when watching with a large group.
- If you have a visual/audio setup that matches a theatre, then I think your $$$-saving argument goes out the window.
I haven't watched any vids in the link(were there any?), but are you sure you mean pre-rendered? Nintendo has been pretty adamant about NOT using pre-rendered scenes in any of their games. Instead, they DO use cut-scenes that are generated by the in-game engine in real time.
If they do this right, they can EASILY make lots of money off the emulation crowd. Most of us have no problems downloading & tweaking emulators, but the "mass market" doesn't have the patience/skills for that. If they target the pricing correctly(i.e. NOT the $20 they were charging for the GBA versions of these games) I don't see why people won't play this JUST for the nostalgia.
Some thoughts:
- If I download games to my SD card, can I somehow back them up to my PC?
- Would *I* pay more than $1-$2 dollars for an old NES game? How about SNES? N64?
- They seemed to mention Super Mario Sunshine as a downloadable game! I wonder if this is correct, because it must not have used all of the 1.5GB on the GameCube disc then.
- Nintendo really IS going out of there way to be different this time. If the specs turn out to be THAT much lower than the competition it will pretty much rule out lots of direct ports.
I don't know about all VOIP providers, but with Sunrocket you log on to your account(via their web site) & specifically record your location. I know that while shopping for a provider this seemed to be the technique that a number of them used.
First off, Nintendo makes more (& better?) games per year than all of those developers you listed put together.
Next, if you're going to rag on someone try to get your facts straight. The N64 was NEVER the dolphin. Rather the codename for the GAMECUBE was "Project Dolphin."
Finally, the PS3 is in NO WAY scheduled to launch in Q4 '05 or Q1 '06.

I believe they DID say that original, smaller games would be available for download.
Perhaps this is what's happening to everyone else?
I guess it's the arrogant programmer in me that thought it was the 2nd. ;)
While this device looks great, I fear that it's functionality will leave a lot to be desired.
FYI, I believe that Nintendo has patented this control scheme.
If you head over to revolution.ign.com they have rough specs according to the latest SDK's.

I think the author was referring to the original NES release. At least I'd hope so.

Dumb animals taste better.
No mention of the powerglove? That was about the only exercise my right arm got until puberty.

That'd be great, except that the GameCube didn't slaughter the Xbox when it started sell for $100 cheaper.(day 1)

There'd have to be a way to transfer to another "Revolution" console in case your first one bit the dust.

The cube.ign.com article states that it most likely WILL play DVD's since the media is DVD-9.
Support for DVD-R/RW does NOT means a DVD-RW drive.
