  2. And this is why we will never get proper healthcare or cheaper education in the USA.

See, if college/university were within the grasp of "the plebs" and healthcare were more affordable, then nobody would enlist in the military anymore because the primary reason of joining are those 2 things.

Nobody honestly signs up to become a bullet sponge.

  3. Project Fi is very Useful on Google To Open Project Fi To iPhone, Samsung, and OnePlus (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

Project Fi is very useful if you do a lot of international travel. That's where it shines, because the data/call rates don't change and it's supported in like 175 countries. I travel to Japan a lot and it's nice to have my phone, just work. Using an original Pixel BTW.

  7. From what I've seen on Making Trains Run on Time (economist.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

From what I've seen on the trains in Japan, damn near everyone waits patiently behind the yellow line, in 2 lines per door and the people exiting the train are generally not obstructed at all. Then, the waiting passengers board calmly.

I'm thinking these researchers may have never lived in Japan, or only compared the busiest times when there's hardly standing room on the platforms.

Now perhaps if one door was exit only and one was enter only on each car, it would work, but only if loading/unloading an entire car at a time.

  8. Re:Solar panels on NASA's Dawn Spacecraft Is Dead (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

Typically, the cameras and scientific instruments on a probe aren't mounted on the same side as the solar panels and/or communications dish. This means that you point the probe so it's dish is facing away from earth so you can take pictures and do science. Then it reorients itself back into a communications position. Rinse, Repeat. When the probe runs out of fuel, it can't do this anymore. This isn't KSP.
