I googled "vdw", and the 7th result was intermolecular bonding - van der Waals forces, anybody with half a brain (and slashdotters generally aren't too dull) could easily figure out that that is what they want. You don't even have to scroll the page to see it.
If Sony really wanted to get an advantage thay would just not use regions on the PS3, like they did with the PSP. It would make the PS3 the choice of foreign games enthusiasts, instead of the Xbox360.

Even in the original Unreal Tournament, when you saw other characters jump or dodge, they would do flips and other cool things. It is still in the newer UT games.
It's not normally common, but when you get a new card, or just want to improve performance a little bit, it's generally helpful to try different driver revisions to get the best one. When you have to reboot for every different revision, it really gets annoying.
