Visicalc came out for mac first because the programmers only had access to macs when they were writing it. This is attributed as one of the major lucky breaks for the platform.
There is a 50% margin requirement on shorted stocks. If I had the million dollars in the bank, you better believe my broker would lend me the 20,000 shares of IBM. If its not on the hard to borrow list I expect any brokerage house would let you borrow as much stock as they can find. If your a big enough player to be doing hundred thousand share transactions, the firm will wish to accommodate you as much as possible. After all, they are earning interest on the cash in your account, lending out your own long positions, and most likely positioning and trading against your own trade.
I've been looking for a good service for micro transactions. On the scale of around 25-50 cents/transaction. This new Amazon service seems the most interesting of any service I've seen (5% and.05 on transactions $10) Anyone know of any good services?
I took a second to look at both Yahoo! and Google's quote system compared to my Thomson machine (actual real time, tick by tick quotes, market depth, etc.) and neither gave true real time reporting of the consolidated tape. Google seems to go off of the primary market center only, which for a heavily traded stock isn't so bad. For something a little thinner you could be getting quotes that can be very misleading. Yahoo, well, I couldn't figure out where they were getting their quotes, as they were some times dramatically different to actual quotes.
Long story short, be careful.
f the announcement had been delayed, then he would have waited a few more days, the price would have then plunged and he would still make money. This seems like it fits the definition of Insider Trading to me. He was in possession of "Material Non-public Information" He had information that was not avalible to the general public, and his trades should therefor be considered insider trading.
There is a huge market for artificial teeth. Two of the people I work with have lost teeth recently and have gone in for artificials, its a 6 month long process that costs around 10 grand. Its in a dentists interest to keep the patient with poor teeth.
I saw a very interesting chart this morning on CNBC. Last year, the PS3 lead demand with the Wii and Xbox slightly behind it. This year, the demand for a Wii is FOUR TIMES demand for both competing systems combined. I believe this is the link to the relevent piece. http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=608260302&play=1#
Today myself and four of my coworkers decided we all wanted to get ourselves, er uh, our "kids", Wiis. I'm in Chicago, and all the stores for miles around are sold out. We did come up with a nice way around this though. We started calling small gaming stores all around the country, picked pretty much at random from web searches. We focused on less populous areas. We eventually found a place that was plenty willing to ship us 5, for about 20$ shipping on each, and tax free.
The company he ran went on to purchase the company he was talking about, that is certainly insider information. Further, devaluing Wild Oats would reduce the purchase price paid by Whole Foods, directly putting money in his pocket.
While it certaintly looks like it didn't live up to the full expectations, the damage taken was gradual. For the most part it was "optical drive came out, system still works." I wouldn't want to see what happens to my macbook pro in the same circumstance.
Does this informal study take into account the Apple retail stores? Or the use of gift cards online? In my experiance at the retail stores I have noticed a huge ammount of iTunes gift cards being sold, either by parents as gifts, or by kids, with cash, when they can't get daddys credit card.
Step 1. Bash rumored Apple product, cause stock price to dip.
Step 2. Purshace shares of Apple.
Step 3. Have Apple release shiney new product thats going to take over the world.
Step 4. ???
Step 5. Profit
I can't think of any other reason for this article to be writen.
Well, it took a little time for the message to get here from there, Comcast hasn't gotten around to installing the high speed conections out there so lags still a killer.
Um, conservation of energy, our body heat has to come from somewhere else. Unless we were absorbing more energy from the sun than the earth would otherwise absorb, but I'm not sure if thats very plausable.
I know of a pretty sizable place on the north side, by Old Orchard thats been around for a few years, they seem to keep pretty busy. I was in there not too long ago and World of Warcraft seemed to be a popular choice, its a social game so it works well I guess.

My father has owned a successful architecture firm for 15 years now. It is, and always has been, entirely run on MacOS. is what he uses and having use it, as well as AutoCad, for a number of years I can honestly say I prefer it. It can import AutoCad files, has supperior 3d rendering, damn, this sounds like an add. Anyways, case in point, do your homework before you start talking about what OSs can and can't do.

I had this problem with 2.0.1 with several (not all) of my apps. I will have to check for 2.0.2.
Wiit coming soon to a dining room near you!

Actually, the numbers shown in the article ARE 3x as much. So yes, 200%

Well it was $700 until the market saw this Slashdot post.
Hopefully, Apples apparent move away from DRM should help us out in case of such an eventuality.

Tell that to MLK.
Time for a Dance Dance Revolution!

Any ideas what that spike is?
