sounds like a lot of asian families i know. i was born into an chinese family which i'd consider lower middle class. i remember in elementary school when we did projects and all the kids purchased poster boards to do theirs on, my dad would find large cardboard boxes for me to use instead. though i felt jealousy toward the other kids, i understood our economic situation and how much my father has already given up to provide for the family and to give the best possible education we can achieve.
"Can an outsider join the Amish church/community?"
"A local Amishman recently remarked, "You do not need to move here to adopt a lifestyle of simplicity and discipleship. You can begin wherever you are." Yes, it is possible for outsiders, through conversion and convincement, to join the Amish community, but we must quickly add that it seldom happens. First, the Amish do not evangelize and seek to add outsiders to their church. Second, outsiders would need to live among the Amish and demonstrate a genuine conversion experience and faith that results in a changed lifestyle. Third, it is extremely difficult for anyone who has not been raised without electricity, automobiles, and other modern conveniences to adjust to the austere lifestyle of the Amish. And to truly be a part of the Amish community one would need to learn the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect."
bittorrent takes over 1/3 of all internet traffic, but music, even entire albums are around 100megs. videos (movies, animes, etc) often range from 700megs to several gigs.
has anyone done any research on what percentage of bittorrent traffic is video and what percentage is audio?
google toolbar may be nice and dandy, but if i recall correctly, they didnt have any hotkey features (maybe they'll have it in the firefox version). but i've gotta say, you just can't beat ctrl+k.
if for every search, i had to take my right hand off the keyboard, move it to the mouse, click on the google toolbar, move my hand back to the keyboard, and enter my search phrase, then hit enter, i'd be so inefficient compared to how i am now.
someone mentioned searching highlighted words. that may be nice a nice feature, but i'd prefer type ahead find. just type the word i want, and keep on hitting ctrl+g. no need to use the mouse at all. it's not as pretty nor as simple to use as google's, but it gets the job done.
recently i changed my default search engine to A9. that was because i had recently made a purchase from amazon and my pi/2 discount disappeared. though 1.57% off isn't much, as a bargain hunter, it hurts me to not be able to save every penny i can, and it can take from 24hrs to 3 weeks after you start to use A9 again before the pi/2 discount returns. so as a precaution i switched over to A9 so it won't happen next time.
to my surprise, A9 results were very close to google's on the things i searched for and i actually got what i need from A9 just as i would have in google. so now A9 has officially become my default CTRL+K.
but i didn't get rid of google. it just takes 2 more key strokes. i made google a keyword and now all i have to do is:
besides taking more time and wood, was there any other reason why he only made the front wood and not the back? it didn't seem that any hardware was stuck to it.
you can still have 911 access w/o the landline. practically everyone has a cellfone now. i mean even my 10 year old cousin has one now. i have friends who don't bother to even install landlines and use their cell phone has their primary contact number.
some may say that a cell phone service plan will be more expensive than a landline plan, but an unactivated cell phone can still make emergency calls due to some law. just have a cell phone charged up and make sure your location has a decent signal and you'll still be able to make your emergency calls.
is it me, or is that thing HUMONGOUS?!?!? i mean it's almost the size of a tablet. shouldn't it be categorized as a laptop/notebook and not a handheld?
if they take those same test subjects and send half of them with emails talking about getting a longer penis and half of them with nothing, would you find 12 weeks later that the ones receiving emails with longer penis to grow an inch or 2 or even more?/. readers, DONT TRY THIS AT HOME! this study hasn't proven to be safe! you never know what may happen. maybe receiving longer penis emails may actually have the reverse effect and *shivers* 'shrivel' it up!!!

most likely the stars are hidden due to the brightness of the comet. i know the parent post meant to be funny, but there's a clear distinction between the moon landing and this.
big cities have the same problem. there's just too much light around us for us to see much or if any stars at night. i remember watching an episode of "Hey Arnold" and they were trying to catch a glimpse of Comet Sally or Harold or something like that but the park was super packed. So Arnold gave a talk on the radio requesting people to turn off their lights at a certain and enjoy the view of a lifetime in the skies. Of course, when that time came, it being a cartoon, lights one by one, went off and the comet soon came by and it was very clear.

and those 3 aren't really even saying much when compared to NGE, though those 3 above do have their moments.
your depiction of NGE is quite correct. but if you censored those parts, the story just doesn't really flow imo. guess they can just screw it up like what they did with several of the other animes they show on cartoon network.
i've read the articles and links posted and i can't believe what a jerk this guy is. it looks he just has way to much time on his hand is trying to squeeze every penny outta his trademark. those who don't want to fight will sucuumb to his demands or at least negotiate. others who know a bit of the law will just ignore him.
we should just register more stealthis______ domains and actually see this guy in action. i'm quite interested in seeing that 1" thick paperwork.

Intelligent filebrowsing with the finder. I was using list view in Windows Explorer the other day and renamed a file in it. I was shocked to discover it didn't automatically reposition itself in the list based on its new name. Quick and convenient file search is available in a search box in every finder window. You can easily force-quit the Finder without having to worry about OS X crashing.
i don't really consider that intelligent. sometimes after i rename a file, i don't want it to get hidden among the rest of my files and have me refind it. sometimes when i rename a file, i want to be able to do something to it immediately. is there any reason why you would want it to auto-sort immediately after renaming? if i wanted it resorted, a simple F5 would do the trick.
iApps - Free. Buy a mac and get many aplpications for free (iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand, Mail, etc). If you've actually used these, you'll realize how great they are. They're not simply little toys, but they are real, near-professional quality applications that can do amazing things. Get a windows box, and you will have none of this (Windows Movie Maker, a poor rip off of iMovie, is so crappy it does not count).
I'd like to dispute this. Although Microsoft's version of these apps may not look as nice, but Outlook Express, Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Picture and Fax viewer, etc do what your iApps do and they're also free. You can't disregard free Windows Apps just because they're not as pretty or there may be better alternatives out there.
i'm not sure why cloning in nature comes to us as a surprise at all. all single cellular organisms duplicate themselves (i.e. cloning). we've already known for a long that that many animals in the animal kingdom are known to have asexual reproduction.
In asexual reproduction, one individual produces offspring that are genetically identical to itself. These offspring are produced by mitosis. There are many invertebrates, including sea stars and sea anemones for example, that produce by asexual reproduction.
the animes Cartoon Network shows on Adult Swim (such as Trigun) and which I believe they'll be showing NGE on are not censored at all or if censored, only very little because I can't really tell the difference.
Only gripe I'm going to have is that it'll probably be dubbed and most american voice acting is not up to par if you get my drift.
We know from our research that there are four key areas EIWs find challenging in the workplace. Each of these "pain-points" is addressed by the new campaign. Namely:
* The risk of sharing information * The stress of being away from the desk
* The frustration of teamwork
* The overload of information
Microsoft Office 2003 addresses these pain points by enabling EIWs to:
* Control their information (through Outlook and OneNote) * Stay in the loop, on their own terms (through Windows Mobile Devices and Outlook)
* Make working with others easier than ever (through Windows SharePoint Services)
* Regain control (through Windows SharePoint Services)

i mean the importance of the invention of the automobile vs the importance of small portable storage media are 2 different scales. just because not many people use the space shuttle, does it make it a less important invention than a car?

i wasn't really trying to compare NGE and Trigun but Trigun was the only anime that popped up in my head when I was thinking of adult swim.
looking at the current shows list on adult swim (http://www.adultswim.com/shows/index.html), the only animes that even come close to the likes of NGE include:
ghost in the shell: stand alone complex

wolf's rain
