That's not a reasonable statement. In the past millennium the reconstructions and measurements clearly show temperatures cooling until around 1850, just about the time we started ramping up fossil fuel use.
That's why they call that period the "little ice age." Extend it back further and it warmer than it is now. Again, look at the link I sent you to Greenland. You could live there again right now if you wanted to, as they did about 700 hundred years ago. Look into it further and realize how we've been lied to by these guys. Then get as mad as I did when you realize the truth. Find out how the Adriatic was flooding Venice in the 1300s. They were sinking ships off the coast in a futile attempt to stop it even back then. Yes things are warming up, no we aren't to blame. Say we are to blame and use something we can't possibly stop producing (i.e. CO2) and you set yourself up to make barges full of money. I remember back in the 1970s the joke was that one day they would say our breath is pollution. It was a joke because plants use it and nobody sane thought that could possibly happen. Well, here we are!
The researchers did not use certain tree ring data post 1960 because it was not properly calibrated to instrumental data. There has been much hoo-hah about this "throwing out" of data when really it is the instrumental data that matters, not the proxy data. If temperature is what you are after, thermometers are the gold standard. Therefore the post 1960 results really aren't in question. Furthermore, many critics of Mann et al. have ignored the fact that this was a single line of data turning a blind eye to the numerous other data sets and proxies that support the same conclusions. I find it disingenuous to claim that all climatology is now in question due to this "trick". I will, however, admit that the researchers should have noted the issues with the tree-ring data in question.
Not all climatology is in question, just theirs. The ones that claim man is to blame for GW when in fact things have been warming up for clearly over 1000 years. To say it is because of CO2 is a theory at best. Water vapor, Methane to mention just two other things are FAR better trappers of heat. Plants also need CO2 and in the 1970s we were told this is great. You know, when they were telling us we had global cooling. There have been other scientists for YEARS that have been trying to say they are wrong and they keep getting smashed down and discredited. Anything that is contrary doesn't get funded, often not published and so on. I also see them called things like "global warming deniers" and such.
Pass laws globally that make sure that nobody (especially Al Gore) can profit from any method to control GW and you may get some people to listen. To me is it clearly a scam to make Algore VERY rich! Algore and his heated driveway and environmental trashing house. He explains his ill lifestyle away by saying he offsets it by carbon credits - that he sells. Do what you want, buy his credits.
I also don't think you should be so forgiving of the e-mails.
I have her payoff. Ride her out of town on a rail, then hang her. Hang her high. Then go after the pirates for a few dollars more. Same thing, rail then hang them. Take pictures. Post them on facebook - the good (Victims), the bad (Pirates) and the ugly (Politicians that do nothing, "Oh, don't kill them").
Yea, sure you may be able to get a user or two. Maybe. Even then just boot of of CD, fix it and your owning the system is a thing of the past. I'd have the machine back in business in at most an hour. Own me on Windows and I'm screwed. Which one of the hundreds of thousands registry items did you change/add/delete? Which Fu*** windows CD goes to this machine? If I reinstall I have to reinstall ALL of the software packages I had, deal with getting windows re-registered AGAIN, the package X AGAIN, package Y AGAIN and they think you are pirating their software. Then there are things like the partition program purchased online, Codecs purchased online... good luck with that. Last time my windows box was compromised by my Daughter visiting a site, it took me a month to get it back. A MONTH! Every data file had to be verified, it was a major PIA. With windows I can be owned by simply visiting a web site, leaving outlook open, blowing on it it seems. Linux/Unix has real security. I also have things backed up multiple times. If someone calls me to help fix their windows machine, it's a major undertaking.
So go ahead, release the code, I'm not worried. He might even infect 100 machines! Woop de do. If I put the same effort into a windows virus, I could probably own millions in just a matter of days. I don't need a proof of concept, there are plenty of real world examples. Most machines STILL run as admin in the windows world.
1000 X 1 million is a billion. For that, they somehow move from Google? It seems a fool and his money will soon be parted... even if he has the 1 billion.
I remember this from the 1960s, then the 1970s when they showed a boy about 8 years old saying there would be no oil for him when he was 16 and old enough to drive. His son is driving and perhaps his son is driving by now. Another scare in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1999-2000, 2004 and a big one in 2007/2008 just in time for the election which I personally believe was very much intentional. If they keep "predicting" it, it will eventually happen I'm sure. They also stopped making new oil refineries in the US in the 1970s. So it is possible that we will hit peak oil because they won't be able to refine any more due to the environmentalists. More of the same. Nothing to see, move along.
Sometimes people forge signatures. I know, hard for some of you to believe (if your that nieve). I want to be able to find out if my signature was attached to something I didn't sign. There is no reason why we can't do that now. Cut down on fraud.
This is not only old, some people have been known to hyst power from overhead electric lines via coil in a barn. I'm not talking any sissy 100 volts, I'm talking enough to power a house. We went over this in physics class. Yawn Sony.
That is unfortunate. I've never been underneath of a 1950s Ford. Nobody I knew would have one by the 1970s. So many rusted out, which they were famous for. Then off to the junk yard and then recycled along with many Chevys and others. Many surviving cars from that era have been reworked. You may find brakes from another model or even make on some cars. It is often I find a Ford with a Chevy engine in it. I'm sure it came with a better attached bumper than what you found.
Look at the bright side, it isn't an aircraft. I maintain a 1954 Bonanza. Everything has to be certified.
Also if you look at a 50's car, the bumpers are massive but held up by a couple thin pieces of mild steel stock-- a strong toddler could bend them out of place.
You have no idea what you are talking about. I used to lift the car to change the tire using the bumper - using a bumper jack. There were bumper hitches to allow you to tow a trailer. If a toddler could bend that bumper out of place, you must have a grown Mike Tyson as a toddler. I doubt even he could do it. The front is also strong, sometimes a tow truck would hook up to that and if they went back to the frame, the sling would be over the bumper with most of the weight on the bumper.
I also think we saw some hog wash. I think they removed the engines. It could also be they hit off center so they would miss the engine and to maximize the damage to the Bel Air.
I did the math on that back in the 1980s when I was in college. You are a whole lot more ahead by launching in Denver. 28-17 vs 39-51 parallel. About 10 degrees further North latitude. Less than the magic 45-00. In the end if memory serves me, it was a matter of 50 MPH (out of a target of around 17,000 MPH depending on altitude). It wasn't much. OTOH, you save all that fuel to lift stuff 1 mile up, literally. One of my physicists friends said changing the trajectory east bound would more than make up for that 50 mph. To us it was a no brainer.
Back then it was a matter of Florida having the facilities. However today they have eliminated many of those launch pads. KSC is a relic of the 1960s and should be retired.
I have no idea why we continue to use a launch pad that is at sea level! This is such a stupid idea. They could launch in Denver and be literally 1 mile higher and save all that fuel. It is actually quite substantial. Just an idea guys!

Yet another dumb death announcement. FTP will be here for years to come, probably long after anyone reading this right now has passed on. Want to announce a death? How about twitter. Only a twit uses twitter. You don't want to be a twit do you?
35mm isn't dead yet, so why should Polaroid be? I do not agree that you must be forced into always accepting the latest technologies -- despite Microsoft's wishes to the contrary.
Dude, I owned a number of polaroid cameras over the years. From the one you tore out of the back to the later models. They were great if you had no alternative. The quality was marginal and it was the best it would ever be the first few days. I have some now that look like they were colored in with a crayon. Blurry, blotchy and seemingly from a palette of just 256 colors. Maybe even fewer. My 35 MM negatives, slides and pictures are as good as they were back in the 1970s. I still use 35MM for under water photography. Everything else is Digital.
So why keep the polaroid around? There is no niche it fills. If you want a picture on site, you can bring along a color photo printer. I think you would have very few interested in this product. Guys like me would make fun of anyone buying one.
I had one of these too. I can't find any of my pictures that I know were taken with it though. Seems to me I had to send it back to Kodak or Polaroid would come after me or something. I don't remember the wording but I remember it was very threatening. I filled in the warranty card so they know I had one. I stopped using my polaroid cameras at that point. Then threw them out when I moved out of the house. I was all 35 mm SLR by then. What memories.
The responses I have seen are seemingly by people that have never owned a Polaroid. I owned the original one that you tore out of the back to the more modern ones. What most people think of as a SX-70 type.
They were great in the 1960s and into the 1970s. Then in a word they "Suck!" Looking back through my pictures I found that even the lowest grade plastic throw away Kodak cartridge based camera, I have superior pictures today. My Polariod pictures are ok, but remind me of someone that took a picture with a Kodak camera and then colored it in with crayons. Blurry, color is blotchy and suck. My pictures with the Kodak taken the same day of the same subjects at almost the same time are just plain better.
Which brings me to my point. Why? Why make it so people can take and preserve sucky pictures again? What next, bring back Lava lamps? Dippity doo? Stick a fork in it, it's done.
I receive on average 3 of these a day at WORK! Same old pitch, I don't know what makes them think I'd believe the 300th time instead of the first time. Well I hope one of my complaints helped get the FTC to do something. Hang the CEO, hang 'em high!
In the US they took dueling away from us in the 1800s. President Andrew Jackson used to get rid of a lot of fools that way. In the 20th century they kept suing to protect idiots and fools who would for example put their hand into a trash truck compactor. Put a sign on the side of the trash truck "Don't put hand and feet into compactor." Then they had them put it in multiple languages. Now they want to protect them if they get hit in the street. So how exactly are we to get rid of idiots and fools in the future? Let's bring back the Duel.
There is nothing worse than someone crying wolf. Therefore it is vital to your career that you put in the time to find out if anything really is licensed. Ask around. Ask secretaries, sometimes they have all that documentation in a file cabinet somewhere. Your PCs for example probably came with a windows license when they were purchased. Sometimes they are bundled with other software.
After you know what you are talking about, you need to bring this to management's attention in writing. CC all of the top managers and VPs. They will have to deal with it. I was convinced I would be fired, possibly tarred and feathered in the past for doing this but I wasn't. Instead I was put in charge of fixing it. It's a tough job. Every machine needs to be accounted for and everything on that machine has to be accounted for. Even freeware. This is so you can say you have a complete accounting. Get a drawer, folders and label them like Microsoft, Free Software Foundation, BSD, things like that. Print out or put their provided copy of their licenses in the folder. The database you make will refer to these folders. Finally, print it out at least once a year and put with the printed licenses. There is nothing like losing your database!
Finally, if something isn't licensed you must either remove it or purchase a license. In cases where the company doesn't exist anymore, consult a lawyer for advice. If you don't account for all the software (purchase license, remove it, do something), that is a liability. Criminal liability actually. The manager (not you unless you are the manager) could go to jail. There are also civil liabilities that you already seem to know about. This may make you unpopular but someone has to do it. Be prepared to be compared to Hitler and other Nazis. Godwins law may help there.
If you are at an institution, you need ass covering in your decision. Especially if you use a Windows desktop. We use Safeboot. I'm at a Fed Bureau that is famous. Safeboot even allows admins to recover the password if the user forgets it. They will forget it by the way. Many users are as dumb as a box of rocks. Sometimes I think even dumber.
Go with FOSS if you dare, my advice is to get a company behind it. That way when it is compromised, they can't criticize your decision. In some cases you may be obligated by law. Check with your legal department. It is also a good idea to consult with a security professional. If something hits the fan, you don't want to seem like an idiot.
My advice would be to file a police report, talk to a lawyer, the Dean and the head of the college. Demand your papers back. You own them. If you don't get the grade for the course you expected, complain about that as well. Be reasonable at first. Ask nicely for them back. If they have already been destroyed, ask for compensation. The amount of the course may be as much as you can get. If they assert they are right, you must show them the error of their ways. Don't let her off. Prosecute her and put her in jail for theft. She is not entitled to go through your bag and she had better know that. If your keystone cop campus police won't do anything, don't get discouraged. Go to the city, county, even state police. It is important to be nice about it at first. She probably thought she was right. Then be not so nice about it, then go to the police. It could get ugly. You may have to transfer to another college if you are at a small college. In the end it will be worth it.
Of course I have to presume that everything you told us is right.
As someone who has taught 4-H students to people professionally in the past, what is the problem? So what if they use your notes? If they are taking the class and can learn by someone elses notes, more power to them. I really don't understand what the big deal is. Now if they plagiarize your work, that is a different matter. Having been accused of cheating my freshman year in College and cleared, it was a terrible thing to go through. On the other hand, I would like to take those that cheat and keel haul them. Then execute them. Do the time to learn the stuff, otherwise do something else. Too many people have positions they shouldn't have because they cheated. They hurt the rest of us.
Two words for you: "von" and "Steuben".
I get my history from, well, reading history. You apparently get yours from Hollywood. Good luck with that.
I get my history from reading and visiting historical places. I've actually been to nearly every Revolutionary and Civil war battlefield. I knew about Von Steuben, however don't confuse him with winning the war. George Washington and all of his commanders were in the English military. They knew what they were doing and were well trained already. Indeed, the founding fathers had studied government and how armies have worked before the Roman Empire. To say the "Germans" won our war would be like saying the Roman Empire won our war. Von Steuben was an incredible man and happened to be German. That is all. I don't know why you are so eager to sell us short.
As I point out I do suggest people see things like 1776 because otherwise they would know nothing about our history. Have you ever seen it? It happens to do a very good job. It is even set up to keep people's attention.
Maybe you think there weren't 400 ships off of Long Island at the time they signed the DOI? That the Colonial army was that powerful? I'm not a professor of this stuff, however I was a very good student of history. I almost always had perfect scores on my tests. Foreign powers did help, sometimes a great deal. However we did the bulk of heavy lifting. It was quite a feat considering we were taking on one of, if not the most powerful Navy and Army in the world at the time. If we weren't armed, the world would be a much different place today.
I fear what Ben Franklin said is about the Republic is going to come true soon.
That being the case, the Second Amendment is toothless. Your right to own an M16 varient will do you no good whatsever against a single tank, never mind an amroured division.
You miss the point entirely. The Japanese in WWII and the Soviets knew they didn't stand a chance with private gun ownership. It clearly was a deterrent. They could count our ships, where they were, where the army is, how strong but not people with guns. That is a fact and they teach it at the war college. That is something they should pass down to the troops so people like you know better. It is also necessary for our own personal protection. Something you will probably want someday.
Don't think killing an insurrection would be that easy. You are considering fighting a fight from 100+ years ago with current weapons? Come on, you should know better. You wouldn't be dealing with guys with AK-47s and so on all lined up ready to flatten. You would be dealing with a diverse force, wondering if your software has been hacked. Perhaps fighting people from across the country. Your communications could be compromised. Even your food could be in question. Things can be done to your fuel. You may wonder if you are being cooked where you stand. That enemy you are attacking is really your enemy. You can also be social engineered. Then as you are confused, you are killed by guys with small arms or a naval force that thinks you are the enemy. When you fight back, you flatten the city where your command is. We are not dumb you know. We came up with the tools you use. You are an incredible force because we support you. Lose that support and you can become a sitting duck. That is a lesson other Armies had to learn the hard way throughout history.
Besides, it is likely a serious push to take over would be completed within an hour anyhow. Modern Coup 'de tat usually happens quickly.
You would also be violating the law. You cannot be deployed against civilians as part of the Posse Comitatus act. That is, the President (whoever that is at the time) can't use you by law.
This is all beside the point, however. The 2nd amendment is there so we the people have the right to firearms. I can defend myself. The police certainly can't do it. It isn't even their job. They protect society, not individuals. If we were not armed the politicians would feel they had free reign to do whatever they want. What could we do about it? More than one politician has met his end with a bullet. Some recently. Personally I think we would be a lot better off if we were all armed better. It would be a much more polite society, just like it really was in the "wild west." Not what Hollywood would have us believe. The data where they have right to carry laws confirms this. The stronger the "gun control" laws are, the worse the problem with crime they have.
That's why they call that period the "little ice age." Extend it back further and it warmer than it is now. Again, look at the link I sent you to Greenland.
Good luck where you are.
