I'm in favor of this. I always hated when I had.png files created in fireworks that I wanted to view, and OS X tried to open fireworks up again instead of the default preview.
What's the point of making a default application if half the files will ignore it?
My uncle made a cannon for fun (he works in a metal shop) that we took to the local shooting range. They had some wooden spools setup for targets, but the lead balls we fired at them made a neat hole through them and embedded in the gravel hill behind. I can only imagine how far it would have gone had we aimed it higher.
It is a very impressive machine to see run, and would have been a great use in it's day.
However, for something that was suppose to be a completely accurate machine and stop problems of errors, it didn't impress me as much since it got the results wrong. Guess it's pretty complicated to setup.
Well if you know what VA stands for then you can probably figure out that it's not talking about veterinarians. They usually don't get diagnosed as one group either.
If there's any question about HAM operators on the Internet, just check any of the wikipedia articles on radios. You'll easily find lots of (well cited from multiple sources per sentence) stories about how HAM operators invented modern electronics and have saved the world multiple times from disaster. In fact, you'll wonder how any country could get along without them!
Of course the value in virtual property by itself is not worth much. It's trivial to add another server to expand the property available. What is more valuable is the property's relation to other properties.
In Snow Crash there was the Metaverse with a virtual city. It was mentioned that the most expensive property was at the center where all the hip places to hang out (as well as the geek/wealthy neighborhoods). At the other side of the world there was lots of emptiness - suggesting that the property value, while in supply, was not in demand.
But those statistics lump the entire US together including the central area which is mostly farm land and has poor cell reception so even that's not really a fair number to use.
I update my aging powerbook using the auto-update program. Same problem with the gray screen, but I just ended up leaving it on overnight after which it seems to have fixed itself (I logged in this morning).
I've often thought it would be cool to just play RTS games using augmented reality. How cool would it be to have a friend over and play a game of age of empires across the living room?
Not always true, I know one ATM I've used (usually a working one, located in a secure building on a Navy base), went through the whole transaction before finally showing a message it was out of funds. I know several people gave it a try.
As if most schools don't have phones all over the building to call 911 on? Granted at my school you needed to dial a 4 digit out code, then 9, then 911, but you could still do it.
I just picked up a box of those at Staples the other day. Let me tell you they're not at all like the real one. I ask questions and it just sit there, and when I tried to get it to do all those cool shapes, he never pops into shape like he does in Word:(
Well it is possible to anonymise the data somewhat. It's very easy for software to detect distinct words even if it can't transcribe them, so if it passes different parts of the sentence to different people, they're unlikely to reconstruct it.
To go even farther - most software provides a confidence level for recognition that can be on a per word basis, so they could take any words with a confidence level under 50 and send those words out to the humans, while keeping the high confidence words from the machine separate until they're combined into the final transcription.
I just tried this with some old 3d glasses I had laying around and it looks like the cameras get out of sync when it moves around.
Especially when the camera swings over people, you see those ghost images of the person in one eye.

Yeah, Steel is the way to go.

Not that it actually works - I have the box checked and now it shows an ad above a message saying ads are disabled.
No, the newest cash register known as the "Till 2011" depends on the user of PCI Express 3.0 and hence has been delayed.
More to the point, I don't see how a flying vehicle like in star wars would stop fast enough to have a problem like falling out.

I think having pictures of both sides of the check in question would be sufficient proof for the bank.
Whereas with google you get in the top results: WikiAnswers - Why is mac and cheese so awesome

Verizon's opt out method is a webpage that shows you where to change the DNS servers on your router so that's almost a step up.

My high school was actually like that, you got no or weak signal all over the building but walk 5 feet out and you're up to 5 bars.
Of course the downside was the custodians' radios didn't work unless they walked to closer points in the building.

Hmm I can't find the "-1 Evil" mod option...

Thanks! I was looking for a way to make firefox less compatible with websites.
Clearly you're not a listener of NPR as they devoted roughly half their airtime to him yesterday
There are plenty of free alternatives which is what I went with - lots easier
