Exactly how is it better to replace one proprietary standard with another. If they were serious about this, perhaps proposing an open standard would be a bit more constructive.

  5. Re:"high-performance" Java? on Oracle Unveils New Open Source BerkeleyDB Release · · Score: 1

For many (most?) things, java seems to be very close to C in speed. GUI interfaces although better are still lacking, but can generally be made usable. This aside, it's quite easy to interface to a java DB engine from a java application ... you don't need to deal with JNI, as would be the other option for an 'embedded' engine.

Perhaps I'm missing the boat on this one, but isn't accessibility an application issue? ODF is just a content format, and it's conceivable that one could create an app that would make is usable by blind people (as an example).

As I said, perhaps I missed the point.

A word to the wise ... if you have an opportunity to use OS390, run away. The OS doesn't seem to have changed for 30 years. It is absolutely the worst operating system going. Of course a big part of the problem with it is the old mainframe "But that's the way we've always done it" attitude with naming conventions (all caps, no vowels), and lots of control freaks running around like little acolytes worshipping their IBM god.

    Not that I'm bitter ...

I believe the software was stolen, not purchased, so from my point of view, the answer would be a definite 'no', although with the state of legal affairs the way it is (burglar slips and sues), all bets are off.

Currently, not everything is 'On Demand', meaning that if yu don't watch a show when you see it on the list, you may not see it again. With a PVR, you get to store it indefinitely. I also haven't seen HD shows on demand yet, but that may just be a limitation in my area.
