  1. 1st Ammendment. on FCC Report - TV Violence Should be Regulated · · Score: 0

Its not infringing on others rights and its not a national security problem... therefore why should any of it be regulated? Why should anyone decide what is appropriate for kids except for the legal parents and guardians? I mean im all for giving the PARENTS more ability to disable certain programming-- but having the government mandate what is okay for everyone? I know of lots of governments that were famous for these kind of steps in the past (though they were more extreme)-- still i dont believe they were called democracies. Im sorry, freedom of speech should not be an option when it comes to media and public airwaves. I happen to be in a leadership position at a radio station, and i have to say the FCC is just an unnecessary pain in the ass and an infringement on our constitutional rights. Its the very 1st ammendment for a reason.

  14. new XPS advertising... and then this? on It's Official Dell Acquired Alienware · · Score: 0

why...? they just launched a bunch of new XPS systems and have an expensive marketting plan for them -- why while doing that do they buy a product line that cannibalizes it?

As far as the prestige of aleinware line being lost -- most tech savvy users are aware you can build the same for half the price. They dont have much prestige except among those less technical semi-geeks and im guessing they arnt the ones reading slashdot and so would never know about this sale. But who knows.

  15. wow -- this is a short sighted article. on Vista May Put Anti-Spyware Companies Out · · Score: 0

its short sighted... 1. Name one microsoft product with rock solid security and regular updates to keep it such (5 patches a week to XP is not an example of good security even if it does meet the update part). So microsoft can say they are getting tough on security and you need not worry all they want-- like when they said XP and then SP2 would fix things ... oh and like they said the soon to be released IE7 would fix things... yeah im still waiting. 2. Most of the best anti-spyware stuff out there is already free and make money off pro versions and donations (Adaware, spybot, crapcleaner) 3. The only spyware companies that might go out of business are the ones like webroot that get sold at best buy by their associates -- because rather than saying "you need to buy this other product for security too" it makes more sense and is easier from a sales stand point to just say "this computer comes with vista and it has super fantastic anti-spyware software included" see reason 1 for why free spyware programs wont go out of business.

  16. why does that surprise people? on Ars Technica Reviews Intel iMacs · · Score: 0

suprise people that its not really 2x faster? oh my! could this mean that the new power--errr-- macbook pro isnt 5x faster? oh course.

Companies are always hyping their new stuff as 2x, 3x or 10x faster than the old. Its never true. They are always referring to specific benchtests in speicific environments concerning specific variables... But it makes more marketting sense to say "look at this benchmark its 3x faster" rather than "in certain benchmarks concerning variable X its 3x faster, in all others its .3x faster". SATA is a great example, they hype it as having 150mbps as compared to ATA which tapped out at 133. The truth is the harddrives cant handle 150 let alone 133 transfer rates, so it doesnt really matter either way -- still companies like to say now with the faster SATA. Its called marketting ... or lying... i forget = )

but by this standard why bother making it for windows either... i mean nobody buys windows for all the great apps you get (because you dont really get any) -- and i dont see how it was making them money seeing as how they have no music store or anything. Besides companies like HP have been bundling things like musicmatch, itunes/quicktime and rhapsody. WMP cant even defaultly play half the media thats out there without codecs. No, i think the reason was less about money (which also may have been a role though) and more about that no one on the mac used it.. i tried to download it once and it never worked (i think it was giving me an old OS9 "executible" ). I personally use VLC which is typically what i find on apple based machines. Still i agree Apple should natively have software (preinstalled) that can play a freaking .avi file.

Possible presidential run? You nuts? You realize Pataki has never won a majority in New York. Are you also aware that his approval rating is in the low 30's. Not to mention the guy supports abortion, not really a guy "value voters" can get behind. Not to mention part of the reason behind his recent more moderate actions is because he will be thrown out of office soon (almost certainly replaced by Spitzer, who has an approval rating in the low 70's). As a Moderate Upstate New Yorker, my vote will be going for Spitzer... so maybe your right about the presidential thing afterall, because he will definately be looking for a new job.
