Voters have 2 viable choices this November. While voting for Mickey Mouse will do your heart good, doing so is just a waste of your time and you're better off just staying in the pub.
The world and economy we have today is the result of 12 years of total republican control. The second Clinton term in which he was made to run in circles dodging Newt's republican fireballs, and 8 years of dubya. The last 2 years of dubya still count as the republican minority has continued to maintain influence and policy over the submissive Dems.
The damage the Bush crime family have done is extensive. Don't expect miracles overnight. The debt will take years of taxes to pay down to a manageable level. And yes, I have seen Obama's tax proposals. His tax breaks are mostly going to incomes less than $250M. Also, while you are liberally throwing around catchy sound bytes of "European Socialism", what the fuck do you consider Bush's trillion $ bailout of his banker buddies and family members that skimmed 10 billion in bonus's to themselves just before filing for bankruptcy?
Weighing all factors, the future is indeed grim. But I prefer to hold out for hope that one day we will elect some individual that is a smart person, and willing to work for the country and not for Haliburton's and Exxon's profit margins.
I have to hold out for hope, I'm not quite ready for the prospect of Mad Max and cannibalism.
I think I know what you were trying to say. You're hot for Sarah Palin.
Porn on the week: Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter taking on the Anchorage Bad Dogs hockey team. Two insatiable bitches and 20 horny guys. Can 20 men satisfy these two hot sluts.
I'm with you. After years of hearing the same political blather year after year, I'll be doing something else than hearing a political debate.
November is the time to express our true feelings as to how the trolls of DC have been screwing over the country.
With that noted, I am not impressed with McSame's choice to take the low road of negative campaigning. This tact really pisses me off. I'm not retarded and I don't want to hear smear right now. I want to hear positive insight as to how he will restore the world from from the shit hole that the Bush Cartel have put us into.
The view from my stump: McSame has comfortably nestled himself in the corporate overlord pocket and will be Bush revisited - for 4 more years, at least. Palin, on the outside is pure window dressing, but on the inside she is an idiot (just listen to her speak off script), and personally, she scares the hell out of me. This is not someone we want in the nations capitol.
On the other side of the fence, we have Obama. While I have been disappointed with some of the legislation he has gone along with, I DO like the youth factor. Here we will have the benefit of a younger man with fresh ideas to salvage the national community and economy, and someone that has not yet been polluted with political graft and corruption like the neanderthals of DC, the likes of John McCain, Ted Stevens, etc, etc, etc.
So, if our time, 200 hrs, is worth $350 billion And we spend 5,000,000 hrs / year reading slashdot That means our wasted hours reading slashdot is worth $8,750,000,000,000,000.00
Good God man! If we slashdotters collude on this we can buy the whole planet and kick everyone else off it, or at least charge them rent.

Well at least Lenny has been frozen and stability is getting more iron clad with each passing day.
I've recently upgraded both desktop and laptop to Lenny from Ubuntu 8.04. It was a good move. Ubuntu was always squirrely and crashed often. Gave me Dejavu of the old days with Win95.
Lenny is pretty sweet. And of course we can always build a newer kernel when one has features we need, which is why we run Linux in the first place. Freedom to hack and let the geek run free.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
Many of NASA's solutions to interplanetary exploration also advances technologies available to mankind to solve problems here on the ground.
In order to develop new technologies that will solve our current terrestrial dilemmas and allow for continued space exploration, the cash needs to be there.
For this we need to replace the idiots tending (and skimming from) the cash register. We may also need to change our way of thinking.
Imagine: Instead of squandering $trillions on nation building we could have already had a complete alternative fuel infrastructure built and operational, all from cheap renewable resources. Another asinine waste: $700B + another $110B in Pork to bail out the cash register operators, right after they skimmed $10B (in CEO bonuses) from the till.
No-Compete agreements are illegal according to the foundations of the "Free Enterprise" principals of a capitalistic society. America was founded on freedom and Freedom of Enterprise. Competition is good for the system.
My reference to being "illegal" is, of course, only from a capitalistic perspective. Fine lines between grey and black here.
By signing a No-Compete agreement, you will have given away your rights to Freedom of Enterprise. Never agree to and sign any No-Compete agreement! EVER. You will regret it later.
If the code is open source, and you love the project, you can walk away and fork it to continue it's development.
There are these wild dogs running around in the Sierras. Commonly referred to as Coyotes. They grab a bite here and there, whenever the opportunity presents itself. They have been known to drag some tasty morsel to a more favorable spot to munch. Can be miles.
If the searchers expand their search from the find location, I'll bet they find the crash site.
But no body, no 1,000 pounds of steel, no bits of rubber, no airplane seat bits, just a few, highly flammable personal items (clothing, ID) that happens to have the name "Steve Fosset" on it.
Real airplane crashes are not like those you see on TV. Not everything explodes on impact. Small planes crashes usually just leave wreckage and carnage. Oh, and they are made of Aluminum, not steel. No sparks to ignite fuel or fumes.
He probably lost power and went down in trees. The trees clip off the wings and the fuselage smashes into rocks or ground.
I actually walked upon a fresh crash site while hiking in the Sierras many years ago. Some other hikers were there when I arrived. I didn't see it going down but noticed a wing embedded in a tree and went to investigate. It was pretty gruesome. 2 dead people and 1 survivor.
On topic, My desktop tries to run forever but occasionally a print server or driver will crash and my printer will go berserk requiring a reboot. And as 99% of linux distros are bleeding edge, apps can make the system unstable, also requiring a reboot to clear things out. Ubuntu is notorious for this. Debian stable is usually well behaved but again when put to the test, modules fail and the thing needs reset to a clean slate.
In comparison, M$ often crashes fatally, whereas Linux can be salvaged gracefully.
Off topic: Your sig regarding Sarah Palin quotes. All those are just political rainbows, sunshine, and empty hollow works being blown up your ass. I live in Alaska. She has not done jack shit as Gov after 2 years besides letting the oil companies run the state and taking bribes from them under the table. As a true republican, she believes in pissing down your back and telling you it's raining liquid sunshine.
XP was factory on my HP laptop. I really do like it, honestly! I would love it if I could install it on my desktop as well, for my own use, but it's just locked to the laptop and will end up in some land fill eventually, which is a pity.
I don't use it much as noted above with the Quickbooks issue. I have never upgraded it which is why it stays fast and stable. I also don't let it see the internet at all!
Again, Debian just rocks the laptop 99% of the time. Everything works beautifully. Both XP and Lenny require much setup to make the laptop hum so all issues regarding difficulty/geek factors don't apply.
I agree that XP is the best product M$ has ever made. I just don't approve of their business model. They're in it mainly for the greed factor and not enough for the consumer.

Most of us in common/. cyber land started out using M$ products. I started with dos 5 and Windows 3.0 and thought they were slow but stable compared to Win95, '98, (I didn't fall for ME), which were all complete abortions and really pissed me off everyday for several years. Looking for alternatives to the M$ moment by moment total system crash nightmare. I tried numerous Linux distros, BeOS, OS2 Warp. Nice and pretty them all, but found productivity software was nil. I finally settled on Win2k and still use it today but rarely (I also have XP on my laptop).
Today all my machines dual boot some form of M$ and Linux, usually Debian.
The major problem with M$ today is that all their products are disposable software. Meaning you can install them on one machine only. After laying out boo-koo cash for the whole production suite. Then in a couple years when your machine craps out and you need to build another, you throw all that costly software into the landfill and have to buy most of it all over again. I find this business model unacceptable.
This desktop runs Debian Lenny full time and I have much better software available than any windows machine. With exception of Quickbooks, which I need for my construction business accounting, but this dependency will be short lived as I am currently creating a QT4 app that will replace Quickbooks soon. I will also release it to the community when it has enough features to be useful to others.
I'm not trying to have a pissing contest with all the M$ users out there. My point is that there are alternatives for those willing to learn something new and be part of something bigger and better.
As Steve Jobs once said, "Computers are like bicycles for your mind" and Linux gives those of us willing to break the chains of slavery an enjoyable ride customizing our systems.
Obligatory Linux fanboy rant: Mine is better, Faster, more stable, no viruses, no vendor lock-in, I am not part of any spam zombie botnet like you are, Nya Nya Nya. Oh and my everyday computing experience is just plain fun. Unlike the M$ days when I just wanted to throw my PC out the window.
If even half of them were true, I would have a stack of W-2s as long as my arm every year for the tax man. The truth of the matter is, nobody here sits in their Microsoft smart chair, talking on their minion iPhone, while playing in the Google money pool. (If someone knows how to get into the Google money pool, please send me a mail.)
2 things you find on assholes, hemorrhoids and cowboy hats.
How do you find Texas? From the west, Go east until you smell it, then south until you step in it.
On a more serious note: cowboy hats, and of course the dip shits wearing them, are what has caused the USA to become the shit hole country it has evolved into. I rest my case.
So pull your head out of your butt and loose the fucking hat.
I remember when the US was such a nice place too, before it was divided into the colors red and blue. I live in Alaska. Last year I traveled to Texas to visit family. Airport security there has gone full blown ape-shit gestapo. While going through a scanner, one of their security bitches jumped out in front of me menacingly as some sort of profiling response technique. I thought she was going to taze me or something. I felt soiled somehow. They profile everyone as a criminal now. Here I am, a middle aged, caucasian male, somewhat pudgy, salt & pepper hair, born in the USA type, with my papers in order, being profiled as a terrorist.
Bush and the whole of the Republican party have gone off the deep end, full blown Hitler, Nazi party, 1984 Orwellian soceity, power hungry, insanity bullshit. For them it's all about control of the populace. Dictatorship without using the "D" word.
The sad part of it all is that most of the population are ignorant dim witted hicks in cowboy hats. They buy into the rhetoric and spew dealt by bush and cheney, just like Hitler was able to do. These nut cases have gained such a foot hold that we may never be able to get rid of them and return to a sane form of government.
Fortunately this year we have hope. A possible fork in the road. Which replacement leader will we pick? An intelligent black man with vision and common sense, or a plasticized facade of a woman model from Wasilla, fake and phony in every way. Oh yeah, and then there is that really old guy.
Err... steel fails in fire all the time. It's a very common event... to the point that fire fighters have hated steel constructions for the better part of a decade.
You're comparing two different things here. Exposed mild steel in any structure can be compromised by fire. This holds true in older structures. The 9/11 conspiracy theories involve 2" rebar encased inside structural concrete. Ever tried to cut rebar? It is very tough stuff, you have to burn through it with a cutting torch (5000 degrees) or shear it using specialized equipment . In addition the concrete is not the junk you get from the hardware store in a bag, or what your driveway is made out of. This stuff is what they build bridges with, also very tough to bust. You cannot burn through it to get to the rebar. It must be shattered w/ explosives to get to the steel and then the steel must be melted with termite to compromise the integrity of the structure.
The structure used in the twin towers is the same as any modern bridge you drive over every day. You know the one, looks like concrete but has structural rebar as it's core. Try flying a jet into one sometime just for kicks. The jet will fold like a beer can and the bridge will remain.
that while we thought we had nature on the ropes, nature rebounds and shows us that nature really is a mother.
