  1. I don't think of HP anymore as being HP on HP Garage on National Register of Historic Places · · Score: 1

  2. This also happens with network drives on Fixes for WinXP Ignoring Novell Disk Mapping? · · Score: 1

Sometimes removable devices can also hijack drive letters of network drives. You can also induce this behavior by causing the network volume to go offline (disconnect machine), then have a piece of removable flash memory mount on the machine. Sometimes it will take over the now defunct network drive's letter.

However, once the network drive comes back, you won't be able to reach it until you remove the flash memory.

UT guys are pretty good about copy protection in moderation. Shortly after release, the official patches remove the cd-checks. Happened to UT2k3 and 2k4 as far as I can remember.

    Nice touch

  6. Why is halo so great again? on Halo 3 and the Second Wave of 360 Games · · Score: 4, Insightful

  9. Re:minimum not maximum on How Bad Will The 360 Shortage Be? · · Score: 1

Well, there's always the posibility that a game that is gold may not be ready for the shelfs on release date (packaging, manufacturing, distribution etc).

Thus, if 2 games are gold, but don't get through manfacturing, or whatever, then you might only have one available.

I'm hoping that they have DOA4 ready for launch, but Tecmo hasen't said it will be.

  10. I'm more interested in the shortage of games on How Bad Will The 360 Shortage Be? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I believe only two games have gone gold, which means a max of 2 games will be available at launch as of now...

Who cares about buying the system on launch day if you can't play the game you wanted yet?

  11. Re:What a tragedy! on Video Games Live National Tour Canceled · · Score: 1

It really was a tragedy. They had a great idea... but horrible implementation.

I was at the Hollywood bowl concert... The quality of the (musical) performance was horrible!

    1. The LA philharmonic had trouble keeping it together on multible songs. I'm not sure it if was a problem with the tracks they were playing with.

    2. They had some horrible clanging during the Halo intro, metal pipe style that was overly loud and grating. (not in the original score mind you).

    3. They had a renouned 80's guitarist perform during halo... Except they forgot to properly adjust his pickups! He was unheard for most of his rifts, and eventually gave up and stopped playing. When they signled to him that they had it working again, it was REALLY LOUD and only gave him about 3 seconds of horribly distorted (due to the overpowering volume) of performance.

    4. The list of songs performed didn't really appeal to me, but oh well. I enjoyed the MGS, Sonic and Mario numbers, but most of the other stuff wasn't too memorable. Bill Brown was on hand, and his music (rainbow six, Splinter Cell, etc) was to be performned, but ended up being left out. He had previously noted on his webpage that they would be performed.

  13. Gestures and touch are not that far fetched on The Evolution of the Revolution · · Score: 3, Informative

I've been using a keyboard from Fingerworks http://www.fingerworks.com/ (that now looks shut down), that has no actual keys on it. The included gestures are very easy to learn, and you can even make your own. Because of this, I don't see a d-pad less controller too far of a stretch, though extreme precision might be tough to achieve without lots of practice.

I remember reading that HP plans to continue to ship iTunes with its PCs (for now).

If they removed it, what would they replace it with? Better to have a the Apple brand music player than musicmatch (or other), since the brand is currently hot.
