Unfortunatly, the city is there for a more compelling reason. It is the access point to all the commerce of middle america via the Mississippi River. NO is the closest port that can accomidate traffic from the Ocean (major transport) and the Mississippi (Minor transport). That corn and soybeans does not get elsewhere magically.
