We indirectly support the same Chinese Government that censors their internet with our huge international trade imports, but our Congress will criticize just the IT companies.
Seems a bit hypocritical, if you want to stop the perception of helping a censoring government, then stop all trade with China, not just IT.
I don't agree with the fact that these companies are helping censor the Chinese internet, but what about all the other companies that directly or indirectly help the same people profit through other means?
And what about human rights/worker rights/environmental protections? Is censorship a greater problem than these?
Apple has countersued John Kiel Patterson's finger for moving the iPod's volume beyond the 93db range, which has possibly caused damage to his hearing.
His finger will be required to testify in court that it indeed did raise the volume beyond acceptable levels, his ears were also subpoenaed in to testify about their injuries.
Noone is sure about Patterson's brain, it has gone missing and possibly is living out of the country.
Given that Google is so well known and widely used today, Google might eventually create a gadget replace most mail, newspapers, magazines, maps and telephone calls.
They already offer tons of services for free, and eventually will branch out to mobile gadgetry.
In 2010 you will just carry around your own pocket Google Hand Unit and instantly communicate by voice or text with anyone anywhere, plot your map to find a route, and then read the news/web when you go to meet up with them.
But I thought the Worf hypothesis was his perception of honor as taught (but not always practiced by his native people) and that this is complicated by family relationships which echo his duality of culture in both his personal and public life?
I was baffled that someone saw fit to fire me over an expression of dissenting views.
As far as you know, but in the real world people get fired all the time for stupid things....something as simple as 'not being a team player' to 'mp3s were found on your hard drive.'
Look at it this way, if the firm was so lame as to fire you over your own views, you probably wouldn't have lasted long there anyway. Most likely, you would find a better job with people that are more respectful. Good luck and hopefully you will find a workplace that listens to your opinions.
I hate it when people romanticize unconstitutional action; happens in the movies all the time. "You can't do that!" "Oh? Are you going to make me get a warrant to search this place? Little Timmy could be dead by then!"

Ritter: Jack, computer theft is a serious crime.
[hangs up the phone] Jack Ryan: [to himself] So are crimes against the Constitution.
I hope everyone follows her example and stands up for what is left of their rights.
Do we really want to live in a society where government agents can just come in and take things with no warning or notice, and then just leave? Sounds like fascism to me.
Microsoft is aware that the 'Kama Sutra/Blackworm/MyWife' worm will hit on Friday, overwriting office documents, but will not release a patch until its regular monthly patch release on February 14th.
How ironic that a patch for the Kama Sutra/MyWife worm will be released on February 14th.
Happy Valentine's Day - Love, Microsoft.
There is only ONE computer that could possibly handle these calculations.
I have an idea, if your fortune gets to be so large that even the IRS can't figure it all out, you should be required to give some of it away to the poor until they can do the necessary calculations.
That being said, I will accept cash and postal money orders only please.
The new browser also includes tabbed browsing and a search box on a more streamlined toolbar, concepts that should be familiar to users of Firefox, a rival browser distributed by the Mozilla Foundation.
Maybe at their next huge product release, Microsoft could give some credit to Mozilla and Firefox for helping them make a better browser? Just a thought.
A friend of mine was taking tourist pictures of New York City and a city policeman came up and asked him why he was taking pictures of the bridges. He cooperated, talked to them for a while and let them know it was just for fun, but felt strange that he would be questioned about taking pictures of bridges. They left him alone and he continued taking pictures, but he thought it was a bit odd.
When I checked Last.fm's similar artists to the reggae legend Bob Marley, first on the list was James Brown, followed by The Chemical Brothers, then Aerosmith.
huh?
Why would Last.fm choose those particular artists? Why not look at the record label, country of origin, style and similar artists? I know they don't want to get 'locked in' to a certain pattern but this is a bit off. Recommending Aerosmith to Bob Marley fans is like recommending Slayer to Beach Boys fans.
The Empire Strikes Back IMO was the best of all Star Wars movies, and I always wondered about Han & Crew on the Mynock Hunt breathing (using only flimsy masks and oxygen tanks) inside of a giant alien worm's mouth. I think they would have decompressed and died instantly...Oh well, I guess that's one myth that may never be busted.
The campaign comes as a pending U.S. court case pits Agence France Presse against Google. AFP sued the company last year, alleging that Google News carries its photos, news headlines and stories without permission.
Clearly, ATI offers better video support in their latest graphics cards than Nvidia does...In really tough video scenarios, like those with odd cadence patterns or noisy DVDs, ATI delivers better quality.
If you want your video to look its best and run as fast as it can, you have to enable all sorts of settings in the advanced properties of your player (or players, plural), and those settings can be different between ATI and Nvidia cards. In short, Microsoft needs to seriously clean up this mess. Video codecs need to hook into a common framework, one that the graphics cards manufacturers can target for acceleration without needing to work with every individual codec maker on the planet.
Codecs are getting out of control, just look at this codec list to see most of them. There has got to be a better way than this Codec conundrum.
It's a cheap packet of cryptobiotic shrimp you can order off the back of any comic book. By the way, they never look as friendly or as big as the pictures.:(

STOP with all the telegramming!
Look at the bright side, now we know what Ferris does on his days off.

This is great, just buy a few acres of land, build an enclosed planned community and reside in a house in the center of it.
Then, buy a bunch of these Honda ADAS, set them loose and...Voila!
Your very own Twilight Zone isolation nightmare!
I sure hope you don't Klingon to false hope.
That would only alienate your readers and therefore is highly illogical.
