The transformers that have developed trouble are the ones that were recycled from the LEP experiment. The positron and electron collider which resided the LHC tunnel during the 90s . Since they are always reclycling equipment, it makes things a bit more less stable.

I found this to be the best way to get fit and stay fit. You can do all of it at home. One hour a day for 90days.
It was a chance find as well since I do not live in the US, I was staying at a hotel when I saw the ads late at night... I usually do not pay attention to infomercials but it was interesting enough to give it a go. Love it.
I rather have all those improvements in public transport... I like to keep driving my car once month or once a week on special occasions like going to the beach or camping.
All of that work and they could not even bother
do their finite element modeling to check if the structure was sound or upto the stresses that were going to be
generated by the rockets.
It reminds me of a show I once saw on tv of this guy wanting to jump a river with a rocket car. All of that
work to get the sponsorship and he could not even bother check that:
- the ramp was smooth enough.
- the wind was coming from the right direction.. the car was blown back to the same bank where the ramp was.
- the wings attached to the car were actually going to stand the drag and lift of the car.

Just to stop people from stereotyping.. if you read the article you would know Abdus Salam won a Nobel Prize for
his contribution to the Standard Model in particle physics. If you read his biography http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/laureates/1979/salam-bio.html you get
the impression that he enjoyed teaching and collaborating with the world (like any other scientist)
and he has this to say about religion: "The Holy Quran enjoins us to reflect on the verities of Allah's created laws of nature; however, that our generation has been privileged to glimpse a part of His design is a bounty and a grace for which I render thanks with a humble heart."
It is not at all about hate and destruction...

Lovefoxxx from Cansei de ser sexy (CSS), I think her name is Luísa Hanae Matsushita.
I have seen them live and I think she would provide cheesy factor that I remember from Minmei.

Since Pyrex will support a temperature high enough to burn the toast. My guess is that the mismatch in expansion coefficients is causing the glass to break.
Did you ever tried a polyamide (aka kapton) layer in between conducting surface and the glass? The layer since it is more elastic will help with the mismatch. The toaster would not be clear but have a cool transparent orange colour.
Perhaps not in the same scale but the same idea
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_Forest (wikipedia).
The first time I visited Silicon valley (I from Australia) what impressed me most was the large number of garage bussiness with one or two employees. We had to dice a 12inch wafer and this guy had two diamond saws in a small garage and that is what he did all day. In this particular industrial state you could see every garage someone doing another service, a bit further down the road there was a group of people populating board sitting.
Silicon Valley must be full of these small companies that can change their services according to the demand very quickly.
For a start up the benefits of having all this services required around the corner are really helpful which must help them to thrive. You just focus on the new idea not on how to fund a new diamond saw.
Cheers,
Aldo
A bit off topic.. what kind of software is there to perform tests on software written in C++. The previous day there was a new version for the java which I have heard of.. but for C++ I have not found except for commercial products.
My mum is a primary teacher. I would never call her what she does babysitting.
She works at a public school in Australia. The
range of her teaching and the difference she makes
in the kids life is high.
At the begining of the year she sees most kids bring
junk food to school.. this are 2nd grade school kids. To combat this, she brings fruit
to school that she shares with the kids.. she brings them mangoes, kiwi fruit etc. At first the
kids will not know what the fruit is. She will leave them on the desk and she will eat them. Within a day or two the kids will be asking questions about the fruit and if they
can have a taste. She will cut them pieces and
in the following weeks what they bring for lunch
will change dramatically.. because they will ask
their parents for the fruits they have seen in class.
This is only one example on how she provides a positive role model into her their lives as well
as teaching which is beyond the curriculum.
She will make costumes for the kids, find new stickers for their books, make sure the parents
know the progress of their kids and during
report writing time find something good to write
about the kid. Sometimes not the easiest thing.
I think her special moments, apart from a kids
theater production going well, is when kids
finishing grade 6 (they are leaving for high
school) will come back and say thanks to her.
Second year was a special year.
I think teachers, apart from teaching are also
in the best position sometimes to show the kids
what is out there in the world. Sometimes parents,
for a number of reasons, are not good at filling
kids with imagination, goals and dreams. What is
the best thing about being a kid.. that you can
dream about being whatever you want.. but that
needs to be fostered and supported.
I lived in Berkeley,CA a town that everybody called it Bezerkeley because they thought it was soooo radical. After living for a few years there it easily compared to any of the most conservative
towns in Australia.
This response is to the off topic comment.
But this me me me attitude drives me up the wall.
I can think of a great number of health issues (physical and psychological) that would hinder and stop you from holding a permanent job. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I can actually hold a job. You only need a bit bad luck for you to end up with brain damage which will diminish your possibility to work and even have friends. It could be as simple as not being able to focus for more than 5 minutes on a task or having very little ability for recolection.
When I lived in the US I could never understand how heartless people were. We live in a community. We meant to help each other.. yet
more momey was spent on arms to create more destruction and despair than helping people who
need help. They would always point to the 10%
who were genuinely taking advantage of people's good nature to not help the rest. It was almost a way to not acknowledge how fragile we are as human beings. Just think what would take for you to end up asking for money in the street.
People would come and visit me from overseas and after a few shell shocked visitors, I had to come up with a bit of an orientation talk to help my friends come to terms with the poverty and the misery they saw in the richest country in the world. I didn't live in any little state, I lived in the state that has the highest gpd in the country.
I actually enjoyed working the in US and I was hoping to stay long enough to work at NASA but in the end this alpha male attitude made me think..'Do I want my children to grow up here'.
I'm always happy to pay taxes if they go towards helping people, science, arts and a DEFENCE force.
I have control of the government.. private companies not a chance.
So all you alpha males remember that not everbody is as strong, clever, resilient as you. The weaker members need help and the community should encourage the average to become strive for better things rather than pushing them down.
The application just has to be good enough..
(A few excellent lead programmers.. the rest
should just use well known algorithms)
It is the Marketing and Sales department that has to be stellar so that they can promote, create
the illusion, sell it and corner the market like it was the best thing since slice bread.
I think it is sad because it is driven by money.. but there is a lot of examples where this is the case.
You have to be very sure to announce something as big as a tenth planet.. understanding every effect
that could mimick the data that you are attributing to a new planet. If you get it wrong and peers
can tell the analysis was rushed for publicity.
Credibility of the team and perhaps funding of the
project will be in jeopardy.
For a scientist, the respect of your peers
is one of the most valuable assests that you
have. It almost sounds like gta2 but no one will want to work
with you or take your work seriously if they
think your work is a joke.
Could the hackers find something better to do with
their time? A lot of money and time goes into making systems secure and obviously in this case
there needs to be more invested. The problem is
that it is time and money scientist do not have.
That is a cool movie, I saw when I was a kid on TV.. a Mad Max meets Blade Runner.. not quite as classy or suspensful but lots of cool stunts. I'm sure it has dated a lot if I saw it again. Almost the reverse of Mannequin which also came out in 1987.
Cheers,
A.
I never understand why people want space exploration to be in the hand of private companies.
You can totally see what will happen.. everything they do would be proprietary information. It would
result in the control of space being given to a bunch of private companies.
For example, it is good to see that apart from private companies that are trying to sequence human genes there is a public Genome project which is equal if not better. This will result that information and know how will always be available to the public.
The reason why there is more value placed on human life is because the people themselves demanded
this. When a king held absolute power he did not care how many people he lost or how they lived or if whether someone could do something about it. As long as the taxes where paid he could not care less. People themselves did not have say. It was only when leaders were held accountable is when things changed because pressure to develop
policies and fund studies was applied by the people.
In England for example a huge number of sailors who were not volunteers.. they were pretty much taken hostage by the so called press gangs.. everybody knew the conditions where terrible and the chances of coming back alive at best slim so very few people joined the navy. They did not happily go
where no man had ever gone before.
I take my hat off to NASA.
I tend to read a lot of their reports on different
compounds and testing procedures because they do
their job thoroughly. It is good place to learn. It took people almost 2000 years to sail the sea with confidence. Yet they
have managed in 40 years to learn enough to almost
have flights routinely. A one off.. is easy but to do it routinely requires that everything is known and understood. There is no
point of keep sending a shuttle whose o-ring
you know has a high percentage of failure. There
is always going to be a chance of failure but
the key is managing it and understanding it.
We are not in the position of absolute monarchs that could easily brushed off that every tenth space shuttle explodes in human and financial terms.
For this I'm happy to live right here and right now.
It reminds me playing pacman at Burning Man two years ago. It was rather fun running through a maze being chased by ghosts.. consuming pills was optional though.
Sex is damaging when it is degrading. Apart from all the religious, health and responsability issues that are related to sex
there is the issue of whether a 17 year old
can grasp the concept and understand that what
he sees is a fantasy or not reality since most
of the pr0n out there depicts the degradation
of women.
How many negative connotations do you know of
a female enjoying sex? We can go on forever..
My favourite is 'the walk of shame' that I heard
when I lived in the US. To me it seemed the most
ludicrous thing ever..ok guys let me get this straight.. you want to get laid but in the morning
you and your friends makes sure she leaves thinking it was a bad idea.
I will be generous.. like 90% of pr0n of the web
is degrading towards women.. fetish stuff does not
count because that is fetish.. but so much else
tries to make it believe that degrading women is
a good and fun thing to do. That is what a 17 year
old I think the law have judge not to be able to
differentiate.
It does make me angry because I think how many people have completely missed the point of sex
because they think that is real. It also provides
ammunition to people who want to keep sex under wraps.
Yep. Once it was finished I expected him to chase her with the star destroyer. The benny hill music playing while he looked at the camera and giggled everytime he touched her with the pointy bit of the cruiser.
I think people forget that even though his quest
to turn lead into gold is futile. He actually managed to develop techniques in chemistry that
were well beyond his time together with grasping
a lot of impirical results.
His experience did make him very rich and powerful.
Not by turning lead into gold but by obtaining the
Master of the Mint post. He took charge of England's great recoining and was knighted for
his efforts.
It is interesting that he was great at coming up
with new concepts that they never came up with
the concept of legal tender.
His alchemist work really shows what happens when
there is no exchange of information between people
performing the same work or for the society to view.
His work in optics and mechanics was not done overnight. There was a lot of debate and contribution from his peers before he could
write down principia.
Perhaps if his alchemist work was done in the open it could have help chemistry flourish and/or people
could have applied the techniques he developed
into less grandious pursuits.
I think people forget that running the complex
would have employed a large number of civilians
from nearby areas. A lot of effort was placed
on making the interface of equipment to the controllers
to be as far as removed from the actual task as possible.
That way people would not get an insight into
the process or reverse engineer what was going.
So even if you worked there you still would not
have clue what was going on.
All of these articles about doomsday scenarios involving the LHC seems to point to the discover of the missing step:
1) Write obscure/specialised audience article
2) ?
3) Main stream readership
? = Add LHC blackhole to the title - sweet!!
The transformers that have developed trouble are the ones that were recycled from the LEP experiment. The positron and electron collider which resided the LHC tunnel during the 90s . Since they are always reclycling equipment, it makes things a bit more less stable. Cheers, A
