  1. Re:Absurd on US Releasing 9/11 Flight 77 Pentagon Crash Tape · · Score: 1

Regarding conspiracy theories, I believe the burden is on the conspiracy theorists to prove their theories, not for the targeted group to disprove all conspiracies directed towards them.

So the government has no burden to put forward evidence that their story of events is what happened? I have yet to see concrete proof that the Pentagon was hit by a plane. Even this video that is supposed to debunk all the theories doesn't actually show a plane. Just a smoke or vapour trail, and an explosion. I find it hard to believe that there isn't more conclusive footage of what happened at the Pentagon, and I don't get why they wouldn't release that footage if it better helped their cause. I don't want to jump to conclusions of what this means, I just want to know one way or the other what actually happened, rather than think what they tell me to think. If that is a conspiracy theory then I'm off to find a roll of tin foil.

1/ If you mod Oblivion you can unlock nudity skins, so they need to treat Oblivion as if people will do so.
2/ If I modded my pants I could cut out the crotch so my old feller is hanging out for all to see. Does that mean I should be treated as if I will and locked up for potential indecent exposure?
3/ And if its possible for me to do this, its also nothing stopping Jack Thompson from doing this.

Conclusion: If Oblivion is classified as mature for potential modded nudity, Jack Thompson needs to be locked up for indecent exposure. It's amazing how ironic the world is when you use specious logic.

  7. Re:console war on Console War Just Sony's Side Quest · · Score: 1

Everything I've read about the PS3 makes it sound like a power house. Sony is claiming it's supposed to last double the time of the PS2 (5 years) so this console is meant to last 10 years. So that means that they won't release another console for 10 years. With that much confidence, they think they won the console war.

It's all marketing tripe, Sony excel at it. The PS2 had its "Emotion Engine" which was supposed to produce photo-realistic graphics, then the console came out and it was good, but not mind-blowing. It certainly wasn't a huge leap over PC games at the time. This time they release the Killzone 2 video to a chorus of slapping sounds as jaws hit the floor, then add a tiny footnote some time later saying it wasn't actually in-game footage, but "what they are aiming for".

The console will come out and it will be very good, but not a whole new world of amazingness. Then three years later they will announce a new one and sucker everyone in with the exact same tactics and story.

The simple fact of the matter is for them to produce a console that it that much of a new gaming paradigm, it will cost as much if not more than a current high-spec PC, and they would have to sell it at not-much-more than current console prices. NO company can afford to make those sort of losses.

This could cause an uneasy oscillation between terror and soothing gameplay. Imagine walking through Ravenhold in HL2 and all of the sudden a headcrab zombie lunges at you, claws grabbing for your throat... You jump in your seat and the game detects that you have freaked out. The zombie stops, visibly relaxes, then produces a bunch of flowers for you. Realising that it means you no harm, you relax. It then detects your newly found relaxed state and just before it gives you the flowers, it lunges for you, taking a considerable chunk of flesh out of your face. You jump again, and the game detects this and tells the zombie crawling up behind you to go into "backrub mode". In the end, I think I'd prefer nice predictable adrenaline inducing terror :P

Over here in Australia we don't really have unlimited internet (as opposed to unlimited* internet) but at least you know exactly how much you are able to download each month. If an ISP is giving unlimited bandwidth it is impossible for them to do without either limiting the speed of the connection or putting in fine print. My ADSL2+ connection gives me 14000/1000 but I have a 40gig download limit (which I get nowhere near most of the time). I'm not the sort of person that wants to download the entire internet each month so that suits me just fine, and I love having the burst speed. Not to mention that I can download a lot of the stuff I want such as demos and patches from my ISPs file mirror at full speed.
