  1. Re:Oooer on Xbox 360 Not Hi-Def Enough? · · Score: 1

I'm familiar with console FPS games, but I have to admit that it is much harder to coordinate shooting and turning with a controller than it is with a mouse an keyboard. This is hopefully a spot the Nintendo Revolution's new controller can help with (but who knows). I think that these next generation systems might want to consider some sort of specialty controller which can fix the problem. I'm sure that something a little more intuitive than a controller for FPS games might help sway more PC FPS gamers to console FPS games.

  10. Re:Remote Control on Responses To Nintendo's Revolution Controller · · Score: 1

I totally agree. If you look at the right side of this link, you will see a similar controller that was made for the CD-i which completely flopped as a console controller. From the blurb:

    CD-i
    Philips, 1992

The four Mario and Zelda games that Nintendo inexplicably allowed Philips to create for the CD-i would be terrible no matter what controller you used to play them. But the pad that shipped with the CD-i hardware defies all reason. Held in one hand, it's basically like a television remote -- the directional pad surrounded by two tiny, thin buttons. Perfect for browsing through the menus of Shelley Duvall's It's A Bird's Life. Awful for gaming.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this controller...

  11. Re:Parental Purchases on Rating Game Content Here and Abroad · · Score: 1

I'd have to agree. At the rental store I work at, our managers make an effort to tell us regularly to remind parents of ratings on games and videos. In turn our customers appreciate our feedback and come more often to rent videos and games. Even before the whole GTA: San Andreas incident, we were always telling parents that the game wouldn't be a suitable choice; afterall, if you're a parent renting a game for your child, they definitely aren't ready for it.

  12. Re:Emotions from games? duh! on Games Can Make Us Cry · · Score: 1

I also know many people who cried during the Aeris scene. But it's mostly because most people get attached to RPG characters pretty quickly because they live through a part of their lives. I think any RPG with some sort of sad event in the middle of the game (when you've gotten attached to the characters) will make most people upset (or cry at the very extreme). On the other hand, most people will also get very happy when something good happens. It's hard to detach yourself from RPG characters.

... or even if students are too far away for the professor to give their answer, these clickers can be used to respond. The problem is that the professor has to constantly give students options to pick from though, but these sorts of devices can be great for first year students that take classes with 1000+ other students in the same lecture hall. These clickers aren't so good for third or fourth year students in much smaller classes where it's much easier to get one-on-one time with professors.

You're absolutely right. I pretty much know what to expect from the next generation FPS games, but this is something that looks simple to play. I read through the instructions and they seemed very easy to pick up.

It reminds me of this very very old game that came out, where you could browse your filesystem in a hovercraft or something. And you would shoot down viruses that were trying to infect your files (It was called "Virus" I think). It was fun because the game would use actual filenames from your hard drive. This seems like a much better version of that.

It was a fad... a big fad. The thing though is that this one didn't target kids/children (which usually get affected most by fads). This fad directly affected adults, and a hobby which most people enjoy. The problem though was that there was already an industry for it, but with the World Poker Tour (and all the other ones), it got a whole new group of people into it. However, I don't think that those who didn't play before got hooked for too long, and they simply left. Those that did play, did so online for a bit, and then probably went back to doing it the traditional way. I didn't play poker before, and I got into it with friends first, and then got hooked online. However, the excitement has died down for me and I'm sure several other people that got hooked into it.

Look at the end of this one (.mov file)... I like it because it looks like something Nintendo might have done (how ironic that it was set out for Xbox). Is there anything close to this game on the market right now?
