I know I should expect it. The people that own the companies do so only because they've invested the most in the company, they don't really care about the music. But still, it's pretty ridiculous that these people -most of whom will never be able to spend all of their money before they die- are so wholeheartedly willing to ruin it for everyone and everything just to get every penny they can get. Scum, all of them.
Why is this news? If there's a minor (and this is really minor) problem with your computer, just figure out a solution. Either leave your computer on or finish everything and turn it off. You people are supposed to be smart and resourceful, figure something out for yourself.
If they wouldn't keep taking away from my content. When roughly a third of the timeslot of my TV shows is being given over to advertisements, it makes me mad. When internet ads are huge and intrusive, I block them so I can return the website to a more functional state. There are well-designed webistes out there whose ads I leave intact, such as Dinosaur Comics, and last.fm. IndieClick, one of the groups that advertises on those sites, have done a good job of keeping their ads small and unobtrusive. I've made it a point not to block anything of theirs. I think if website designers and advertisers worked together to make less intrusive and more appealing ads, I would leave them alone more often.
Of course they're going to spend all their money eventually, because eventually (after their deaths, like the story says), Bill will stop being able to make big bucks for the charity. Unless they slow down their spending, of course, but from the sound of the article they have no intention of doing that. And why would they? "We have less money, so let's give less away." That hardly sounds like something a charity would say.

Yeah, eventually.
Actually, the name of the HL2 engine is Source. Havok is a separate engine that can be applied over various graphics engines, and was itself included in the Unreal Tournament series.
First, I have to work with Linux. I work in a Biology department and the programs we use run solely on Linux. I do know that, in order to use many of the features Linux offers, you have to know quite a few console commands and their proper syntaxes. Pretty much anyone can take advantage of Windows and even OSX without having to know those commands.
Secondly, Slashdot is living proof that many avid Linux users are condescending towards Windows users. Have you been here long?
Why is there such a competition anyway? Why do retards have to complain when other people use some other operating system? What does it matter if Linux isn't on every computer in the world? Some (read: most normal) people prefer Windows because you can use it without some inordinate amount of knowledge. Yeah, Linux is great if you know more about computers than most people (and if you don't have any particularly special programs you need to run), but what does it really matter? One reason I personally don't use Linux is because a lot of people who do are very condescending about it.
I hope they get inside on the launch date only to find out the store's entire stock has been pre-ordered.
On another note, what kind of lines have there been for past consoles? There's a tremendous amount of hype (good and bad) going on about the PS3, and I'm sure it's affected interest, but how much?
Corruption? Are you delusional? How does a stance against war and outright murder show corruption in any way, shape or form? The US government is far more corrupt than the UN and if you can't see that you're a fool.
Actually, many artists these days think the suits are ridiculous. The only way they could be unassociated would be to drop their label, but then they'd be out of a job. And still the RIAA gets to keep the "right" to sue on their behalf. Nice, isn't it?
I use Portable Firefox on my computers since it's much simpler to transfer my profile to new computers and to keep my settings in case of a Windows reinstall. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for PF 2.0 to come out.
That's not a very accurate metaphor, since the only bad things books can propagate are bad ideas. And anyway, pretty much every book that is designed to spread ideas such as racism, revolt, etc., as good things ends up getting contested and banned anyway. I'm sure the OP is at least partially joking, and I don't support the idea, but uninformed computer users can cause quite a bit of damage unintentionally.
Is not to replace USB devices, per se, (it will certainly do that, too, but we already have wireless devices) but to be used in short-range wireless networking applications. I know I would love to have USB 2.0 transfer speeds between my laptop and desktop without using a patch cable, and I'm sure a lot of other people would too. It would also be useful for flash memory. Imagine never having to remove your thumb drive from your pocket, but still retaining those transfer speeds. Really, this seems like a matter of convenience to me, but perhaps there will be further applications that will expand the spectrum of useability.
Oh no, a company discontinuing a product they've made for their competitor so that they can gain the upper hand! Welcome to business, folks.
I like how they consider even Windows 2000 an upgrade.

Actually, quite a few of them flat out say "There's no such thing."
But couldn't one equate fighting porn with ruining lives?
I glanced at the headline and saw something about nuclear grenades.
The subs and the Core 2 Duo are fairly geeky things to want, I would think.
I agree. Sony is trying to lose money these days, why not take it a step further?

Needs antialiasing.

I think the point was that many people do change their behavior, and it balances out those flaws on its own.

Alt+Shift+click opens things in a new window, at least on Windows. Hopefully it does the same on all platforms, though I'm not sure.
You don't have to open links in tabs. You can set them to open in the same window or in a new window.

And your fart joke certainly isn't of 8th grade calibur.
