I had the same thought. It reads like a Tom Clancy novel. I wondered, "Gee, w32.leaves.worm must be a pretty serious threat from the sound of it." Then I read this. Feh.
If you are running IE, click Tools, Internet Options, select the Content tab, click Publishers and make sure nothing is in the list. If you have anything there, that company can automatically install apps via your browser without asking.
OK, here goes. I have a B.A. in English from UF - no real help there, except that some companies' hiring policies require bachelor degrees for certain positions.
I have taken the following classes from the listed vendors and rate them accordingly (1-10).
Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 - Executrain (7) Decent facilities and equipment, knowledgeable instructors, but nothing really special and very accelerated. Expect to know the material before you arrive.
Netware 5 Advanced Administration - Executrain (7) Same as above.
Hands-On Internetworking with TCP/IP - Global Knowledge (10) Facilities were in a local hotel - nice, convenient, good equipment. Extremely knowledgeable instructor. A+
Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices - Princeton Somethingorother (6) Good equipment, but sandwiched us into the training room at CompUSA which was like a glorified closet. Hot as hell with all the equipment. Instructor so-so knowledgeable.
Windows 2000 Advanced Server - New Horizons (7) Good facilities and equipment, knowledgeable instructors. Maybe it was the material that turned me off.
Designing Secure MS Networks - New Horizons (7) Same as above. Almost fell asleep on last day.
CISSP Bootcamp - Intense School (10) Better study a lot before attempting one of these. Very fast paced. Extremely knowledgeable instructor. Might not have passed exam without this class.
Applied Hacking and Countermeasures - Intense School (8) Fun. Good instructors (military), great lab. Lots of fun. Wardriving field trip on last day. Don't expect to make money after taking this class though. Strictly a go-if-it's-paid-for thing.
All in all I would recommend making a decision about what field you would like to work in and focus on that track. I will probably never use Netware anywhere but my current 9-5, so that's out. Read the local ads and see what they are hiring or consider relocating.
Gobbles is very tongue-in-cheek. Their posts, while they contain actual, working exploits, are meant to be funny. They deride or praise the list moderator, poke fun at script kiddies (shout outz duudz), and are generally pretty damn funny.
"I am not as concerned with changing wind/rain patterns..." This suggests to me that you don't really care to change any patterns of wind or rain.
Well, that was not the intended meaning. "Changing wind/rain" is a gerund+object combination here, rather than using "changing" as a verb. So the meaning was: I am not as concerned with the change in... rather than suggesting that I, personally, would change the weather.
I live in a hurricane belt. It is definitely true that our water table would be less plentiful if we didn't have the rains from hurricanes to help (over) fill it. However, I am sure the populace (farmers included) would rather use other means to water their crops and drink bottled water and live with water restrictions, if necessary, than have severe winds *kill* people and destroy property. We just don't want the rain that badly.
OT (your.sig again)
I finally understand your.sig. Apparently you want the noun version? I was thinking of the verb.
back to the subject: when discussing a change in a hurricane's path you assert that we might induce a change in the rain pattern nearby
i doubt that would happen because a hurricane takes a short time to develop, travel and devestate an area - it might "live" for a week or two. rain patterns and especially drought are not a factor in such a short time.
i said i would not be as concerned about changing hurricane patterns as changing o3 or the polar ice caps. so we are agreed that the latter would be bad. should i diagram the sentence?
Hurricanes kill lots of people in countries where housing is not well developed. I remember seeing a news broadcast from Nicaragua as one hurricane was approaching and the people being interviewed were basically saying, "we have no shelter - we are going to die."
I am not as concerned with changing wind/rain patterns as I am about reducing the amount of O3 in the atmosphere or ice at the poles.
I have a client who is an artist and wanted to make a business card that automatically opens a picture of one of his paintings when inserted in the drive. I threw together a little.html file and an autorun.inf that uses a freeware util called shelexec to launch the.html file with the default browser.
Really neat idea, and he can include links to a website or mailto on the page with the picture.
If you are in a networked environment, you might want to use the 'net' command and its various subcommands. Typing the command that launches a service is much quicker than navigating to services in control panel, or in newer revisions of windows (2000 and xp) control panel, then adminitrative tools, just type the command dammit!
Also there are lots of win32 ports of *nix tools that you can use from a command prompt. Check out sysinternals for ports of strings, ps (pslist/pskill), and lots of others.
(not checking link this time because fscking ie doesn't want to remember the form post data like mozilla will and i am typing this for the second time after checking the link on try #1. - yeesh)
My earliest memory is of sitting on the floor in the hall of my home (don't know why I picked that spot) and my mother coming to me and saying I was going to be four years old the next day.
That would depend on how much data you have to backup. It is fine for 1 GB, but what if you need 10+ GB?
Tape is still king for easy, inexpensive and supported storage. Using swappable drives is pretty expensive and the MBF is going to be lower.

Future perceived savings? FUD. When product support for older Microsoft platforms is discontinued and the.NET subscription-based platform is the only option Microsoft offers, subscribers will see a recurring cost for their servers. Linux will cost something for migration, but once it's up the cost savings should make it extremely cost-effective.
From Bjarne Stroustrup's, "The C++ Programming Language",
The name C++ (pronounced "see plus plus") was coined by Rick Mascitti in the summer of 1983. The name signifies the evolutionary nature of the changes from C; "++" is the C increment operator... The language is not called D, because it is an extension of C, and it does not attempt to remedy problems by removing features.
I assumed the name C# was a clever way of playing on the name - calling it "C-sharp" as the next evolution. But I could be way off:)
Very different to the movie isn't it? Lots of unecessary, and not very interesting detail.
Yes, unlike film, books must convey ideas that stimulate all the senses in simple print. Authors strive to describe sights, sounds and scents using nothing more than pen and paper. Some readers relish such writing and pore over the pages word-by-word. Others just want to get to the action. To each their own.
Supporting Windows is making me rich! I am constantly receiving calls from clients who run NT, 2000 and even XP! A lack of support options means I am in demand! In this economy I can't afford for people to switch from Windows.
Please, if you care about the IT support business; if you like spending every spare minute earning cash; or if you just want to see other peoples' systems crash and burn, JUST SAY WINDOWS!!
And if you can get people to install those freaking HP print managers and logitech mouseman drivers, hey! More business for me:)
but I bet you'd get a better "turn-out" if it was something we could do without our butts leaving our chairs. I'm not saying fresh air is bad, but it sounds like sunshine might be involved and that's where I draw the line!
How about mass-emailing every g-damn store manager in the country. At least their mail server administrators will take notice (is this thing on??)
I'm not suggesting that we hack every one of their webservers or anything, but... uh... what was I talking about again?
Let's get creative about this protest and make it something EVERYONE will do - make it easy. Make it fun! Make it lazy!

I don't think most commercial farmlands rely on rainfall. They pipe in the o2.

very pissed-off.

I want to learn Linux for the sake of learning Linux.
:/
Good for you - so did I.
I want to see something completely different.
You will have a wide variety of desktop environments to choose from.
I don't want the learning curve to be eased, I want the full Linux experience.
Then don't install X windows at all
Like, maybe a full-color brochure of the Great Outdoors(tm), you know, something we haven't seen for a while.
