XP has a feature that is supposed to emulate the older versions of windows for backward compatibility. Just right click on the icon, select properties, compatibilty, select "run in compatibility mode" and check off 95 (or whatever).
I don't love MS by any means, but I have to say that XP is stable. A pain in the ass sometimes, but stable. If you can deal with the annoyance of "let me do this for you" wizards, just stick with what you've got.
However, it would be nice to run a Linux distro side-by-side with XP and let your kids make up their own minds about which one they want to use.
Hmm - I own a business doing this sort of work and company's are generally off-hand about the rate. Some will ask what you charge immediately, but most I have worked for will ask timidly.
They all know you are going to bill them.
True, he should not have done the work without getting terms up-front, but he should always expect to get paid, and he should probably act like that was just understood from the beginning.
It's pr0n. If you really want Linux to take over the world, make it the only platform that supports a revolutionary new form of virtual sex.
Like Dennis Miller said, "If some unemployed punk in New Jersey, can get a cassette to make love to Elle McPherson for $19.95, this virtual reality stuff is going to make crack look like Sanka."
We also mainly use 300PL's and IBM has a preventative firmware update for the model 6565 here. Note that if the h/d has already failed the update does no good.
(Hope I found the right one - I've been using the same floppy forever:/)
Yep. I have had several cats in my years and the only one I have left used to fetch when she was a kitten. Her prey was usually balled-up aluminum foil, but she would fetch anything similar if she could pick it up in her mouth.
Now she is about 12 years old and I think she has forgotten how to do it. When I throw something for her now she runs over to it, looks perplexed, and then comes back... without it - just like any other normal cat:)
My coworker was searching for unnecessary files to delete from the LAN so we could free up some space and ran across 122 gay porn pics and movies in a user's directory.
Long story short I was... reluctant to fix his laptop when something went wrong. <shudder>
All good for me. I have the BEFSR41 and the wireless version and they both work great. One thing I had a small problem with was getting encryption to work on the wireless. I was running NT and added the adapter from within the network settings which made it work, but only running the setup wizard gives you the program to set the WEP keys. Now it runs 128 bit (actually 104) like a champ.
As for the card, I have the plain little Linksys wifi PCMCIA and it works great in NT and FreeBSD. BSD took a little playing with the pccard.conf - you have to change the section title to the exact card name read on boot - it appears in your/var/log/messages I beleive.
My next wireless nic will be the Orinoco gold because you can attach an external antenna to it (Pringles anyone?) and Airsnort works with it.
As for their other products, I have installed a couple of the cheap little switches they make for clients with no complaints, either.
One weird thing that happened a few weeks ago was the non-wireless version would not let me ping through to the cable modem for some reason. I ended up reseting to factory defaults and it cleared up. No biggie, though.
I also work in technical support and own a corporation doing same on the side. I charge $75 per hour (which is less than CompUSA) to clients. Friends never have to pay. Oh, I might accept lunch from someone for doing say $100 worth of work, but I have a rule - no bill if you are a friend. Friends can refer clients, whom I will charge, but if our relationship began as social, it remains primarily social.
Note that I may occassionally ask professional friends their opinion/advice in like manner.
Otherwise, you can be sure you have no friends. Everyone will consider you a business acquaintance. How could they think otherwise?

BTW I have wrestled with the same fscking HP case - whoever designed that POS needs to be dragged outside and shot. I take that back - shoot them on the spot!

You can also enable this emulation on 2000.

Actually I would like to know - "What kind of computer do you have?"
Try this:
.50/mile) = 10
Hourly service ($150 x 8) = 600
Premium for weekend/after hours service (20%) = 120
Travel expense (20 miles @
Total = $ 730
Due upon receipt
More realistic and might even hold up in court
1.5%?! That is almost nothing. Charge the state maximum. That is 5% in Florida. On a hundred dollar invoice, that is still only $5 per month.

Dude you need to discover Ebay.

So everyone will just blue box. Problem solved :/
I was thinking the same thing.

Now you've done it. Bill Gates is going to buy the original suit from Batman and go running around the streets at night.
Frank Miller rocks.
However.
Kal-El would kick Bruce Wayne's skinny butt - no question. At least he would, if he wasn't dead.
