Hey, I get spam on private networks too. No Mary, I do not want to see this hilarious video of a dog or read about this amazing (fake) story about some family.
None of the Halo games are even in the top twenty all time best sellers. If the only games we discussed were the best selling games of all time, our discussions would all be about whether we should evolve our Pikachus into Raichus or whether or not Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen were worthy remakes of the originals. Seriously, Pokemon dominates your top twenty all time best seller list and it's filled in with Marios, Sims, and GTAs in between.
Those are all fine games to talk about, but considering there are many more games worth discussing than just those, I don't really see your point about sales numbers.
Halo 3 was mega hyped and marketed by Microsoft. It made lots of dollars very fast. People outside the industry are noticing us and it's not about boobs, deaths in internet cafes, or hot coffee. He may be an "Xbot", but that doesn't make his point invalid. Just look at last generation, ten years from now, a lot more people are going to be talking about Halo and GTA than Super Mario Sunshine.
I personally gave the whole game a 10, and the first hour of it a 9. Length was definitely not a factor in my decisions. Could the game have been longer? Sure. Would the game still have been as good? Probably not. The pacing was perfect, the humor was perfect, the game design was so amazingly original I was blown away.
Can someone help explain to me (and some coworkers who were talking about it this morning) what all the graphical settings. Specifically the relation between screen resolution, screen rendering percentage, and how UE3's post processing works into the equation? We are all pretty interested in what the screen rendering actually means.
Either way, I tried a variety of settings on my pretty old system (9800 pro, 1GB RAM, Athlon 1800+) and I could get a decent framerate but then it looked muddy, or a bad framerate but then it looked pretty good. I wasn't expecting the game to run on my system but it seems to scale decently at least.
I've been running XP since month one and I don't even have Service Pack 2. My computer works great for me, it's extremely stable with SP1 and does everything I want it do. However, I'm not a stupid user. I use a hardware firewall, Firefox, and common sense. If I ever have to reinstall XP though, I would probably install all the updates.
I don't have a lot of time for gaming either (but actually I love writing about games, the main reasons I started my site). Anyways, my wife isn't into games and we don't have kids yet, so basically I play whatever I want, it's just there's not much time to play, so I consider my gaming time valuable. I own all the systems from last-generation and there are a lot of "AAA" games that I missed. I would much rather play those than the many filler games landing on the Wii lately.
Oh well, I'm not sure where this post is going anymore. Wii Bowling is awesome and we still play it at a friend's or seomthing.
My Wii would be gathering dust, if I hadn't already sold it. I don't say this as flamebait or anything, but I beat Twilight Princess and then saw nothing on the near horizon so I sold it to my brother-in-law on the cheap in December 2006. Smash Bros. Brawl is the sequel to my most played game of all time so I will definitely be picking up another Wii early next year, but I don't miss our time apart. The only game that's out now that I even would have considered buying was Metroid Prime 3. I'm not really Nintendo's target demographic anymore but I do enjoy their first-party games.
Mass Effect is already a confirmed trilogy (first sentence) so it was planned to milked/fleshed out from the start (don't get me wrong, I'm frothing for Mass Effect). And I also enjoyed Jade Empire so I wouldn't mind another game or two set in feudal China or the area.
I think this could be good if EA kept their hands out too much and instead was able to provide them with better tools and developers. Bioware hasn't released a game since Jade Empire in 2005 and honestly I think they produce great stuff, would like to see it a little more often though.
All that crap, as far as I'm concerned, is an unwelcome distraction. People could be spending time on real articles, like about real things that have actually happened in the world, but instead they're updating the Bart Simpson article to note that he doesn't have pubes. There will always be "real articles" to work on, but if you bothered to even read the comments in this Slashdot article, there are a lot of people who are simply annoyed by this elitism of "real articles" vs. "fancruft." A lot of these people who would normally edit Wikipedia if they knew they could actually contribute, would. But instead, users like you are taking away the very thing that interests them in Wikipedia, thus driving them away. So instead of having an editor who may spend 75% of their time on "fancruft" and 25% of their time on "real articles," you now have an editor who will not edit Wikipedia at all. If you ask me, that is a complete loss for the community.

Has Wikipedia Peaked?

Oh, there's plenty of things to write about, the community has slowly been taken over by a few who seemingly wish to destroy it from within, or at least shape it into their ideal site. Legitimate and well written articles are constantly deleted or merged because they're "not notable" or they're fancruft. These of course, are okay reasons to delete articles, but when entire projects are basically swept away by one person who twist the guidelines in their favor (or had a corrupt hand in writing them in the first place), it's a great turn off.
People go around touting "Wikipedia is not an encyclopedia" in one discussion, and then in the next want to get rid or some article because "it's not encyclopedic." I guess I see my ideal Wikipedia as a complete collection. If someone writes a decent, complete article on something somewhat obscure, and it's deleted because it's not notable enough, that just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm just bitter and my view of Wikipedia doesn't agree with the majority? Don't know.
I am annoyed about how they're trying to rid of trivia sections. Those are some of the most interesting parts of an article if you ask me.

Here's a great article and "game" that I found a while back. The author calls it the world's most inaccessible game where each level breaks a cardinal sin of game design. The designer them goes on to describe how it's broken and how to avoid and fix it in the future. I thought it was a great idea and it applies here.
The site I write for also deals directly with usability and accessibility in video games. I think these aspects of gameplay are often overlooked for various reasons and things like unskippable cutscenes and unskippable story sequences (not necessarily cutscenes but just long drawn out blobs of text - see my First Hour Okami review next Monday) are just plain foolish and obnoxious to the player!
There you can see all the tags you've written and what articles they're attached to. This can be helpful just for sorting through the articles you've read and maybe your thoughts about them at the time.
Geez, it's at least ten times that at my local theater!

I never really understood this complaint. Mostly because I know of no other portable MP3 players that allow you to transfer songs wirelessly quickly. Isn't three plays better than zero plays? Ignoring the DRM issues (I never heard for sure whether squirting wraps the song in DRM or not), but this doesn't sound like that horrible of an idea.
disclaimer: I don't own a Zune, Ipod, or even a Rio.
No overtime, but I ended up getting two comp days out of it. I never pulled an all nighter, even during college, it's going to take me more than two days to recover from this last week.
Couple of my friends at work skipped work yesterday to play all day. Then came in for about six hours today and stood around and talked about it for five of those hours. Too bad there's a horrible support issue I have to deal with right now, I was still at work Monday night when it was released, and I'm still at work now when I'm supposed to be playing at a friend's house. Oh, woe is me and horrible timing.

Why not Portal? The environment gets so much attention anyway. I'll be writing about Portal, Valve's new and wonderful game.
Actually, my writing is actually done and I'm just waiting until 4:30 to post it.
