I have a DVD, I believe its Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. One of the special features on the disc, is preceded by a black screen with "This portion of the DVD brought to you by: Verizon" with a big logo prominently displayed. It lingers for about 5-10 seconds, and you can't skip it.
Its not a huge intrusion, sure, but its funny... and here I thought this entire DVD was brought to me by my money buying it at the store.
Maybe not exclusive, but it might not have been in the Genesis version, from the wiki: "In the worm room in level six, there is a staircase that leads down to a hallway full of programmers. If you bring them coffee, they will be pleased and give you a secret item... a stench bomb that allows you to bypass the battles in level seven. They are missing from some versions of the game."
That reminds me of an old NES dungeon crawler where you actually could meet the game's programmers in some far off corner. They give you a quest to bring them coffee in exchange for an exclusive item. Fun idea.
I don't remember what the game was called, something with the word "Immortal" in the title I believe.

Why Game Movies Stink

I saw that late at night on TMC, normally i would have passed it over as one in the endless parade of no-budget mystery movies churned out in the 40's, but the strange camera compelled me to watch. It was interesting to say the least, and had a few humorous uses of the first person camera, both intentional and unintentional.
I remember way back when he and Gene Siskel reviewed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Siskel complained that the film didn't fully explore the complex father/son dynamic between Indy and Henry Sr. Ebert sort of looked at him slack jawed for a moment before exclaiming "It's an Indiana Jones movie! I don't want to see that! That has no place in a movie like this!" He then gave it thumbs up. That's when i knew that i liked him as a reviewer.
i think i read that the PotC game that came out with the movie was just a generic pirate game that was already scheduled to come out, Disney bought it quickly as a cheap tie-in to the movie
how would you like to be THAT developer? "Well guys, our budget pirate game is almost ready, we're looking at 19.99 price point with a - *RING RING* - oh, hold on.... uh-huh... yeah..... wait, who!?! WHAT! you wanna..... us?!?!?! THANKS! okay everyone, change of plans, we're now a 49.99 triple-A title with a major Disney motion picture tie in, and Wal Mart's agreed to give us prime endcap floor space! Bring out the hookers and blow!"
a used xbox can be had for about $100, mod it to use Xbox Media Center and you get about 40 various emulators, dvd player, mp3 player, DivX player, etc... all with network support
sure, you're playing emulated Zelda, but at least its on a tv with a game controller, as it should be
::shrug:: my saved games are still there, and still work after all these years. I dont think i have a cartridge from the first wave though, i think i got LoZ about a year later iirc. did they improve the battery?
even better, map the quicksave and quickload keys to buttons on your controller, every time you get a hit on the boss, hit quicksave, every time you get hit, press quickload
its the only way i could ever beat Gradius 3 on SNES
i always thought the id naming conventions were weird:
Doom: we all know this one Doom 2: direct sequel, same engine Quake: new engine, new story (borrows some plotdevices), different gameplay Quake 2: new~ish engine, new story Quake 3: new engine, new (no?) story, COMPLETELY different gameplay feel Doom 3: new engine, remake of Doom 1, completely different gameplay feel Quake 4: same engine as D3, sequel to Q2
the Quake series is almost getting to Final Fantasy style naming, not many direct sequels, just a bunch of games that have the same name, i predict that Quake 5 will again have nothing to do with with any previous Quake title
cool thanks! I remember that site from way back, too bad the wayback machine doesn't have anything past the first page.
I think using the song tunes and changing the lyrics might fall under parody laws, so they didnt have to pay royalties. Who knows, maybe one of the kids who helped write that musical simply brought it with him to college and they're performing the same show.
Try simply Fast Forwarding instead of "menu" or "title". Not quite as nice, but it generally works.

Great Scott!
Yeah right, because seeing some naked boobies is way worse than seeing a person get tortured and beaten in excruciatingly graphic bloody detail?
That is nonsensical on so many levels. Christianity makes my brain hurt.

The larger organic chain stores here in the US (Whole Foods, Earth Fare) sell raw cheese.
The new Myst MMO is supposed to be different. Its going to focus more on world creation and exploration. It could be an interesting concept. This interview was posted this morning:e ws-rand-miller-of-cyan-worlds/

Kiera Knightly's definitely HAWT... but, to be true to PotC:
"We wants the redhead! Give us the redhead!"

that's actually not a bad idea... why don't you do it?
seriously, why wait for Apple? get some funding and make it happen
just to clarify, you mean a co-op mode of the campaign missions?
just realized that you were at least partially right with your use of 2 d's
should be ensaddenating
yes, its quarter to 5 on a friday afternoon, and i really really really need to leave work
i think you mean "ensadenating"
if we were to keep it in spirit with the original ilovebees joke

messin' with them shag eared villains.... man... stay away from those guys
HOLY CRAP!
i thought that my parody comment was paranoid!
