Not really...we've been selecting from natural evolution what crop survived better (which would have happened anyways). What GM is doing is something else entirely. They are splicing in genes from otherwise incompatible plants and fish and still want to do more. Alergic to fish? Guess what? Damn good chance your alergic to said food contaminated with such genes. Law of unintended consiquences applies heavily here.
We have one ecosystem and one fuckup is all it takes to contaminate a wolrdwide food supply. The big draw suposidly for these crops has been to help fend off world hunger, but what country are they being grown in? The grand ol' land of glut. If anything if people must be ignorant. Grow them in those, "starving" countries where if they fuck up thier ecosystem it really doesn't matter given thier ecosystem aparently doesn't have the food they need.
Crap...lemmy rephrase that. Genetic engineering at all in the wild like with food is a horrid idea. Once you open pandora's box with genetically engineered food in the wild you'll have a damn hard time if it's even possible to go back.
And that works SOOOOO well. US beef is pretty damn rare to come accross in Japan. Consumers flattly won't buy it. Countries outside of the US don't necicarily have stupid shit consumers that'll buy anything put in front of them. Doesn't matter if you try to force a country to import food. So it's in the country. Now whos gona buy it? When the consumer speaks with thier wallet (like the Japanse know how to do) your fucked. Genetic engineered anything is a bad bad baaad idea. We are still in the dark ages of genetic engineering and will be that way for most of my generation at least with the rate were going.
Intel is at 65nm manufacturing and has it in the works to go smaller. While AMD is still at 90nm manufacturing and still trieing to get to 65nm. I prefer AMD (gota root for the underdog), but this is a clear situation Intel is releasing better product. Intel's Core Duo stuff is coming at just the right time. Hell they got the Apple contract at the perfect time. Neither IBM or AMD are anywhere near the heat & power consumption Intel is at right now with those chips.
I don't remeber defending personal piracy. I do however aknoledge that personal v. comercial piracy are completely different things with ramafications attached to them. I do however agree with you completely. I even have a server full of MS Betaware sans the Windows Server licence. Unfortionately at least with me these companies are all too often giving piracy a legitmate angle to fly in on. Activation, SecuROM, custom downloads, etc. All this distrust of the customer makes the customer not want to trust the company.
MP3s really aren't something that'll just find thier way on to cellphones and find mass acceptance among those that use them allot for music. Cellphones have gone through thier phases of getting longer standby times with simple hacks and hardware changes on all sides. Active processing of MP3 files however stays relitvely the same with little wiggle room. Plus it doesn't help that we have never had any real breakthroughs with batteries. You really can't get too much more storage with current technologies. Half-life batteries look good, but they'll likely be kinda expensive lasting 1-3 years at least (thats a way to kill the industry). Plus they have that added benifit of needing to be disposed of properly. Battery acid is bad enough in a dump, but concentrateing even low level radiation in a dump isn't exactly good. Oh yeah, anything to with "radiation" attached it is bad with the sheeple.
Don't count on good behavior getting him out too fast. This was a federal case (interstate crimes?). "Good behavior" doesn't get you too far with Federal Prisons. Best he can hope for is a Club Fed prision which I'm doubting. Be it three, seven, or even one year in a pound me in the ass fed prision will likely scar this white-collar for life and you don't get away from those memories.
*drumbroll* sell pirated software to defraud BOTH the customer and the company that made it and land in pound me in the ass prison. Piracy is one thing, but making a buck off of it is something else entirely. At least with a personal pirater theres a chance they'll buy the next version (say they need support). People doing what this guy does deserve every day they get (and white-collar criminals have a much harder time behind bars). Now if only we could get the same kind of treatment with equally criminal C*Os that just skip the piracy part and just steal cash.
The guy miaswell have put a sign up that said "come arrest me PLEASE!!!" Just because you can doesn't mean you should kids.
I've been hearing that since the original Rio came out (hell I even used to spew the nonsense). Still hasn't happened and won't baring massive breathroughs in batteries of mass acceptance of half-life batteries (not happening for a LONG time). Power is a major concern and anyone like me that uses thier MP3 player for 4+ hours a day will find an all in one device lacking quickly unless the battery is a hulk. Having power run out on an MP3 player is one thing. A cellphone is another. I have a Treo 650 and it plays MP3s nicely. You can even use bluetooth headphones with it for music. Not overly useful however. I'd get less than a days useage out of it listening to MP3s and a cellphone MUST, be reliable, have power at all times or it's pointless. Don't even try the line: "just plug it in every night." I do that (usualy), but some people don't come home every night, and having to tote a cable around to keep the phone charged is not an option.
He posted as AC. He just has a blind hate of the iPod. Being able to drag music the the HD is really of no concern to him. If he knew anything about the hardware he'd speak differently. It's more fun to bash hardware you've never used much.
The submitter wants good, fast, cheap. Unfortionately you can only have two of those. The i-Openers really were not cheap. It's just the company that made them footed the bill. The poster is really looking for a free lunch he doesn't have to work for. Of which Macs do NOT fit the cheap respect very well.
Your kidding right? The price v. funcionality of that thing is abysmal. It's appeal is more for people that really should use a full featured laptop & early adopters that are about one-upsmanship. I like what they are doing, but it'll likely be version 6 or 7 before they finally get a product thats worth it. This is at least if they are still around by some great miracle.
Yet you and most of the other posters didn't even bther to read the summary. He wants something that isn't needing updates, error prone, etc. Laptops running Windows fail in this respect miserably. This is more of a solution for a person over 70 with little understanding of the underlieing concepts of a computer hes looking for. If the system can't pass that test you fail to understand the concept. A moded Xbox? Works beautifully. Failure? Restart the Xbox or worst case pop a disk in and reimage the software image in under 5min.
We really aren't spending all that much cash on the ISS. The ISS was meant to be finished LONG ago, but politics, things like iraq, and budget cuts all got in the way. They've gotten as much done as they have so far so why not finish the job? When the ISS is finaly obsolete and ready to be junked they'll stop spending any money on it. To continue it's usefullness they must do what? Spend more money (UH DUH!).
And 7% is a fairly good rate for something that we still aren't really good at (why were doing it!). Also it's not like...you know...these people that go up have absolutely no idea what the dangers are. They accept the risks, we learn when the project succeeds or fails, and the human knoledgebase progresses just a little more. Maybe we should just ground all shuttles for the next 100 years while we work on more theories before we send the next shuttle up. Surely it would be safer! You can come up with ideas all day, but they mean shit until you try them out.
Goes to show a low UID really doesn't mean shit when it comes to brains.
All of which is stuff that just happens and duh about the logic board revisions. Did you not read my previous post before hitting reply numbnuts? Not to mention at least one revision was to step up to the 2.0ghz processors. Do you seriously compreheand what you type? Shutdowns, noises, high temps, and the heat sink problem are very closely related. If you can't figure that out you shouldn't even be allowed near a computer. Macbooks that have had thier heat sink compound appied correctly fixes the other problems. The new firmware update was two fold. To keep Macbooks with improper ammounts of paste to keep thier temps down (so they don't need to get thier Macbook serviced) and those with properly applied paste it keeps the temps WAY down. As for the plastic strip as well as the paste problem that IS the outsourced companies fault, but honestly...if you can't remove a piece of plastic (which was rare) off the back you have larger problems. They didn't do what they were supposed to and it was Apple's first go with the new designs.
Unlike most manufacturers however Apple just doesn't let problems like that remain. As soon as it was brought to thier attention they got to fixing the problems. It's fairly evident from your posts that you:
A) have likely never owned an Apple product
B) have NEVER had a thing to do with hardware manufacturing
And don't try calling me an Apple Zelot. I'm anything but. I own a grand total of one Macbook to seven x86 machines with anything, but an Apple OS on them.
Gota love that menality. You create a cohearant post on/. and what happens? You get accused of being a of choosing. I have no large vested intrest in Apple V. MS V. Linux. I do however have a vested intrest in things that work. MS DRM has little flexbility, Real DRM has no flexibility, Apple DRM is very flexible, but no DRM is absolute.
Fine by me personaly. I can reliably get to places quicker by well done public transport in cities like San Francisco & LA. Good public transport is FAR better than the current system of everybody hop in thier car and scramble from generally the same location to a destination thats usualy in the same general area. I live in Las Vegas and I try to not leave the house from the hours 6am-9am and 4pm-7pm. Having to get around by car here is horrid and the transit system is abysmal for being a "tourist hot-spot." This project however looks like pork. It's a flipping train system for 1-6 people at a time it looks like. You get the negaives of a public tansit system with little energy efficiency.
Only reason Apple goes through many revisions is that thier flagship models stick around FAR longer than any other competitor's. Other companies...say Dell for instance. Thier revision are stepping from an Inspiron 8100 to an 8200 and charging more for something that really hasn't been improved. Just, "revised" and thrown in a new shell. I'm wanting to know what numerious, "service advisories" your talking about however. Only recalls they have really done have been related to the batteries and thats a SONY issue. Next time you troll please do be cohearant about it. Oh wait...this is/.
Why should you care if MCE wins? Your on/. You should allready know how to circumvent DRM, download files via P2P, or just rip the video from DVD. Honestly though...Apple has a much more established system that "just works" out of the box. I do have some DRMed video files from iTunes and what I payed for was the knoledge that the video I have saved I can just hit play on and not have to deal with a, "security update," reboot, and an online licence check before I can watch a file.
The real problem is that this countries Two Party system is a joke known as Democracy 1.0. The rest of the Democraic World is on Democracy 2.0 (Parlament). Hell what kind of government have we tried to set Iraq up with? Two party system or Parlament? We don't even trust, "our" way with Iraq. The Two Party system is outdated and needs to be eliminated. This country can't last too much longer before it cracks and either flattly fails, or the political system gets it shit together. Evolve or die. It's as simple as that.
Yeah...good luck with that. RAM, HD, PCIMCA, and USB peripherals are really all you ever want to upgrade. Bus memory speeds & such are continually changing to where by the time your looking at a processor upgrade it's on a higher speed (we left the 66/100mhz bus speeds behind LONG ago). It's gotten that way with desktops w/me. All that ever makes it to the new machine is the videocard which is quickly replaced, and the HD. As for videocards you can upgrade some, but the ones that you can the cost just makes it worth more to buy a new laptop and donate the old one to a charity or if your like me family that quickly becomes your best friend when they hear your upgrading.
I can attest to that with every machine I've worked on almost (the older the sharper). It seems I can manage to get cut almost every time I open a computer up. Hell I just took a huge gouge outa my right, index finger a few weeks ago while modifying the use to a bay another way. Slipped with clipping the metal and caught a sharp point. Ohhhh did that fsking hurt. Hell it STILL hurts if I press on it and it's healed over.
Not really...we've been selecting from natural evolution what crop survived better (which would have happened anyways). What GM is doing is something else entirely. They broke eaisily because the market was flooded with cheap nock offs. Finding good original ones is nigh impossible.
