I am at a point where all I do is raid. Login, go raid 3-4 hours, log off and go play something I enjoy (Like cov4: Warlords). I despise this game with every fiber of my being, and just like anyone who remembers a better MMORPG (Like UO circa 2000) I hope for a better game to come along. A game with skill based PvP and a very dynamic social scene where player actions have concequences. Do I expect this game to ever come out? Let's just say I also hope for world peace....
"Well, let's take World of Warcraft as an example. Let's say there are around 6 million subscribers for the game. I'd say that 40 percent of the players are addicted."
Paladin performs Hand of Justice on you.
You are stuned.
Shaman's Earth Shock Crits you for 900.
Shaman gains 2 attacks through Shaman's windfury.
Shaman crits you for 895.
Shaman hit you for 600.
Shaman crits you for 1295.
Paladin gains one attack through Wind Fury totem.
Paladin hits you for 459.
Paladin's Seal of Command crits you for 1200.
Paladin hits you for 300.
Paladin's Seal of Command hits you for 600.
Paladin's Judgement of Command crits you for 600.
You are dead.
So the government invented these "terrorists" to explain why we dont have flying cars or our personal jet-packs yet? Intriguing theory... *puts on tin foil hat*
This is exactly why I am agianst allowing the government to implement OS level backdoor. They will simply lose the information on the backdoor to hackers and then no computer will be safe!
Only way I would feel more violated is if someone drilled a hole inside my head to have a look around without my permission because I was a "threat". All they woudl have to do is write up one of their national security letters, or whatever else pseudo-legal paper work they use to get "right" to conduct surveillance without a judge.
The episode of South Park about the town flag truely comes to mind. If you look for racism you will find it everywhere, because you are using a baised point of view. I'm no fan of Sony, but anyone with an ounce of brain would know an international corporation would have nothing to gain from running a clearly racist ad. I doubt they are trying to penetrate the KKK-Handheld gaming market. Therefore, I can conclude it's just a frikin add and it's the people that view it that are racist.
I wonder what these geniuses plan on doing with porn streamed from Europe?"
Whatever they want to do, they will have to first ask America if they can do it.
Casual Gamnes seems like another loosely defined market sector, that's nothing really but a buzz word used by corporations to prop up their stocks. The genre is so broad they create an illusion of an ever expending market by stretching the definition of casual games. At first it may be just puzzle java games, with know player base of x. Next month they decide to also include non-puzzle java games with player base of y. X + y = x, and they can say that x grew by a percent value of z. This creates illusion of ever expending market. Soon there are news stories of publishing company ABC starting up their own casual games development department to compete with company XYZ in the casual games market. This kind of stuff repeats itself all the time on Wall Street.
For me casual game has and always will be a game with loosely defined goal that progresses at your own pace. There is no need to hurry up blazing to the end, you should slow down and enjoy the ride. Sadly there are fewer and fewer games like that out there.
WOW dude you must be sarcastic. Before EA got it's filthy hands on it, UO had the best PvP system in the world. They slowly started to destroy it by turnign it mroe and more item-based with each patch. Now UO is dead to me! This was the game where player's skill counted for 99% of the equation in both team and 1 vs 1 combat. There was simply nothing like it anywhere. PvP was fast-paced, exciting, and very risky (hence very rewarding).
For it's part in ruining this gem, EA is dead to me! And so is any company in their clutches.
If you were angry qith Sony for ruining SWG, why would you play another one of their products? It's just a question born of curiosity. When EA killed Ultima Online I vowed not to buy any of their games ever again.
I must say Ultima Online was a frightening experience at first. No other game made me feel the way it did. It was just so tense. You would battle your opponents with sweat dripping down your forehead into your eyes. But after years and years spent mastering every aspect of the game, I no longer had the tense rush. I became so battle hardened every situation was looked upon and all options weighed without a single emotion. I became cold calculating machine. It got to a point where there could be 15 people standing outside my little house waiting for me, I walked onto my tarrece and yelled "Be right down guys, just have to refil my potions," and I was off to battle these seemingly unbeatable odds. Of course I couldn't win per se, I could only kill at most 3 of the 15 assailants at one time, they keept being resurected, but they could not kill me. Walking them between my houses, I would make short stops in each to refil my provisions. I was supremely confident of my abilites. Never did another game put so much on the line in terms of loss, and never did another game reward a player's skill so much. The risk was great, but that is what made it more rewarding.
Today's games are sugar-coated candylands by comparison. Even UO itself was bought out and turned into a candyland with a non-candyland attachement. Articles like "Players don't want grief" just make me disgusted. Gone are the days of Player Justice, and with them any semblance of real gameplay.
I think many companies turn a blind eye to server emulation because they don't want it making headlines. It's easy to stop news about some free emulator that's unauthorized being release (Most companies wouldn't publish something that's clearly bad for business they report on), but it's impossible to stop the media from reporting on the lawsuit you filed to stop the release of some free unauthorized emulation software. Many legitimate customers will be in the dark to a free alternative for years to come, paying for the real product. In the long run it may prove a better damage control alternative.
I have used Choice Point products at my last job. Following their little... ummm... mishap they changed my username (which they assign) from the first latter of my first name followed by my last name to random assortment of character. Progress indeed.
Level your character across a msytical universe filled with many planet enviorments (about 5) and many mystical creatures (Colors and size may very, graphics not so much). Once you reach maximum level gather 39 of your fellow faction members and attack the hive slaying it in an epic battle (repeat 20 times over) to recieve the ultimatly powerful weapon (Unless a medkit drops that run) and show it off to everyone!
If the creator truely exists outside the universe, then it is of no consequence to those within it. He cannot interact in a measurable way with the universe. If he could interact in a way that was measurable, then there would be a proof of his existance.
but maybe they should stop with the puzzle games and make a fully fledged RPG that doesnt take 100 hours to beat. And one that doesn't leave you sratching your head for 20 minutes after turning it on, trying to figure out what you were going to do next before you turned it off! A game where you can get from place to place without much delay. No more walking through the woods for 15 minutes fighting trivial encounters, casual gamer doesn't have time for that. Make a game that can be finished fairly quickly, put down and picked up any time, and one that isn't shorted on features such as graphics.

Yep, sounds like science to me!
I thought you guys were talking about a Sci-Fi show :-(
I would as well! Maybe we can find few more people who feel the same way and get started!
The ground is littered with crap that doesn't fly, why add to it?

Do these games come with spinning rims or is it just the console?

If a game scares me, I probably won't play it! Where's my blankey...
