ISP puts up a tower. Shoots an optical beam into my community where we have a single point of presence. 100MB optical. We now take that and use 802.11b to serve the community over wireless.
Now guess who you don't have to pay ~$500/mo in local loop charges? Verizon.
It's worked fine for the last god knows how many years. How long has CB radios been around? People talk on those all the time on the road, especially truckers in the most devastating vehicles on the road. How many accidents are caused by truckers talking on CBs?
When I work at home, I'm working at home in the same hours I would be working at work. If that made sense. Once the workday is over, the VPN to work gets closed and I go about my life. A zero-time commute to and from work once a week is very nice.
I took a class in Advertising while in college. Guess how much cars would cost if the manufacturer did ZERO advertsing? (No TV, no radio, no newspapers, no nothing).
Half.
A 30K Toyota Highlander would cost 15K. A 10K Ford Escort would cost 5K.
"A dumb frat boy who goofed off until he was forty, a National Guard deserter, who ran every company he touched into the ground, who had only six years of public service to his name, got appointed President by his father's friends into his job."
For one, this will bridge with ANY AP. Your little AP will not. Yours will only bridge with another AP of the same type. This bridges with anything. For two, this bridge passes MAC address (30 I believe).
It's a great little unit. Been playing around with it for about a month. It can use an external antenna (RP-SMA connector) also. It's also 70mW, which helps out on the transmissions.
There are a few current threads about the WET-11 for Wireless ISPs here:
"All the people who are whining about how overpriced this is should note that MS intends for this not to be a set-top box, but a full-fledged computer that you watch TV on."
Which I already do on my $20 ATI TV Wonder VE card.

"Canadian sovereignty by sailing submarines"
:)
How exactly does one sail a submarine?
Depends on if you use an antenna and an amp. Put a yagi on it and you can hit 14 miles with clear LOS.
What kind of monkey should they make a year?

"So quit yer Whinin...."
But then what would Mac users do with their time?
- These companies are stealing money.
- But not your money.
Well technically, no. But the markup was added to the cost of the product. In effect, they are stealing your money.

Does this mean you got to page 2?
"A dumb frat boy who goofed off until he was forty, a National Guard deserter, who ran every company he touched into the ground, who had only six years of public service to his name, got appointed President by his father's friends into his job."
And it's just KILLING you that he's:
1. Smarter than you are
2. More successful than you are
and 3:
Makes more than you do.

Yeah, and lets just forget all about the billion dollar online gaming industry and the plethora of other online venues making tons of money.
"Last year Australian authorities tapped more phones all United States authorities combined."
Good job editors.

All the teachers have caught up in technology in the last 2 weeks. This article is irrelevant now.

Can you imagine a beowulf cluster of these?
Better make that 802.11b. A typo for a flame... foot in mouth. Reset game, begin again.
