    As I am certainly not a sysadmin, take with a grain of salt, but if you gave everyone konqueror (KDE browser), you could use fish to do it.

    Fish is a file-system-over-ssh setup, that only requires ssh access, with perl being optional. It respects all the permissions a ssh account would.

    Konqueror also has Kioslave for a crapload of other protocols, including nfs, so it would be worth looking into even if you don't like fish.

    This applies to most things, and they sure didn't pull 60% off a random number generator.

    You, like almost everyone else seeing stuff like that thinks that the first time.

    The reason why GPUs aren't uber compared to CPUs is that CPUs are general purpose, while GPUs focus on a few key areas. This allows them to get really good performance at a few things, but suck at most other things. Its the difference between a Jack-of-all-trades and a specialist.

    We have the problem of people in high places just looking out for themselves -- caring for them won't be their problem; life-extension or other medical advances won't be in developed in time to help them, etc.

    And the sad part is, when younger people get into those places, we will probably do that same thing.

    The Department of Homeland Security announced it has started a data hosting service. They encourage backing up of family pictures, journals, and irc chats, among other things. There is no monthly cost, but encrypters need not apply. When questioned on how this is a good use of taxpayers money, they simply replied that they wanted material to test their new indexing algorithms on.

    I refuse to believe the top watch for geeks has come until it sshes into a linux box which then uses ntp to get the time from the atomic clock, and then sends it back. The time would of course be displayed in binary : octal : hex, for hour, minutes, and seconds, respectively.

    And, of course, it runs Linux.

    Pity Hephaestus is more of a hareware person. Companies have considered Aphrodite, but she seems to always screw things up, and Dionysus is entirely too busy working on WINE. Athena has a bit of trouble working with male programmers, so she is out of the question. Artemis is really good at hunting down bugs, but she never seems to return calls.

    Meh, immortal programmers are so hard to come by these days.

    Last time I check the GPL, `copyleft`, was made to implement Free ideals in the current copyright system. It would prefer to not have it, but it has the GPL to work with it.
