"designed to create a level playing field" and I'm sure you can define that concept? Hooey, your search for perfection is futile. Limits are all that is available and they are not perfect. "protect athletes' health" I'm sure some are better off for not having massive amounts of chemicals poured in their bodies. The horrors of the past should be our guide. "set an example for children" Hey, getting bumped for doping is a pretty good deterent in my book. What's your answer? "that fails on all counts" Maybe in your mind, but I think it's working as well as can be expected. "The journal Nature" These are experts in sports? Go back to your labs. You know nothing of real world sports. "antidoping authorities have fostered a sporting culture of suspicion, secrecy and fear" Well, welcome to the real world. Humans cheat and the world ain't perfect. I suppose these Einsteins would then legislate which 'doping' materials would be allowed. And then if someone cheated...... Absolute balderdash.

Show of hands, please. Anybody? Given enough 'freedom', I'm sure disgruntled groups could manage to incite just such a war.
Let's not forget their efforts to control their population's numbers. Who wants to see another billion hungry Chinese in 10 years or so? If their population gets out of control, where's all the food and resources going to come from? That's right, your market.

On a slightly different note, I read Malik's statement "...I do not, have not and will not support terrorism in any form against innocent people."

What will our congress threaten next with funding cut-offs? How about health care because somebody actually prescribes contraceptives? Or a clean needle exchange? Or who knows what? You know that institutions of higher education will cater to who controls the money coming in the door (all morally outraged posturing aside.). I liked college better when the tuition and alumni donations called the tune. Our 'benevolent' federal government has unwittingly driven up the cost of higher education by funding it with our tax dollars. Schools have little incentive to economize. If they don't provide the extras, some other school will. Its a perverted competition to see who can dangle the flashiest technology in front of prospective students and their parents. So it costs a little more, just borrow it on student loans! I can't imagine starting out on a life career in debt up to my ear lobes. My 2 cents and worth every penny.

The most effective AV technology in my class room was the overhead projector. It allowed me to always face the class while writing. It also allowed for scaling the size up or down by moving the the projector on a cart. Color was available by choosing a different marker. Copied images from the xerox machine on special sheets was also available. Sometimes the textbooks will give you an important graphic that the students don't really understand. Having it on the screen, discussing it, and writing on it helped. I had a TV mounted on the wall. It was too small for any one in the back. The sound was tinny. The lights had to be out for most material. Eventually, it was used less and less. As for powerpoint, when was the last time you saw an interesting powerpoint presentation? They are very time consuming to put together. I'm not saying impossible, but the time demands of teaching physics can be huge. As a bit of advice, try to NOT over use any technique or device.
