I agree and would love to see the American system change, but no law maker is going to rule against a biological parent since it would be political suicide. I think my time would be better spent trying to adopt a child who isn't likely to make it to their 18th birthday.
I caught 'Time Bandits' on HDNet the other and stopped because I vaguely remembered watching it when I was young. It's a pretty bad movie, but I finished it since it was almost over. I was shocked when they kill the main character's parents with an exploding chunk of evil at the end of the movie. I'm guessing that there's quite a bit of content that we just don't remember.
Agreed. I've shown the intro to a few friends and ALL of them had the exact same reaction. I'm personally impressed by the amount of detail that went into the splicers conversations. "I used to be beautiful!" I haven't had time to finish the game yet, but there has been moments where I actually feel bad for killing them.
Have you ever seen an orphanage in Mexico or Guatemala? To be an orphan in American is a terrible thing. To be an orphan in other countries can be a death sentence. As far as being 'inconvenienced'; we don't want the risk of having a biological parent claiming custody a year or three down the line. We also do not want an 'open' adoption that many require. Perhaps you should do a bit more research before condemning me.
Is this really the final price list? I really enjoyed Half Life 2 and I though Ep1 was pretty good. However, I refuse to spend 30 freaking dollars on an EPISODE. At this rate, they will extract over $80 for episodes 1-3 and that is absurd. I thought $20 was a bit on the high side for Ep1, but this is rediculous.
There's nothing wrong with being PC. I have a problem when a person is crucified for a slip of the tongue. IE black instead of African American. I think most anti-PCnes comes from people like myself who are tired of having to watch every single word that pops out of our mouths for fear of unintentionally insulting someone. People need to take a deep breath and relax a little.
I know of SEVERAL families that have adopted from overseas because they do not want to risk the legal entanglements that come with a local adoption. Personally, my wife and I will probably adopt at least one child and we're not even considering a local. The risk/reward is simply too high so we're forced to spend around $30,000 to adopt from China, Russia, Vietnam, etc.
Right. Just like the thoroughly corrupt Governor Rod Blagojevich and his cronies suffered for their efforts to save the children. The fact is, most people will never hear about their tax dollars being wasted and the government officials can claim that they tried to do the right thing.
Most stores in the US will not honor a 'rebate' price. Sales prices are fine, but they often sell rebate items below cost figuring that the majority of people will not cash in the rebate.
A demo should ALWAYS be free. It's like going to a dealership and having them tell you that you need to pay $500 just to test the car out. They expect that you'll probably purchase one of their cars, so a minor expense is worth the profit that they will make on the final sale.
I picked up Donkey Konga 1 & 2 along with two sets of drums for so I could play a game with my wife. They still get a fair amount of play time to this day, so I'd say they were a decent success in our house.
No, AVG issued an update this week that incorrectly identifies bioshock.exe as a virus. I was forced to uninstall Bioshock & AVG in order to get Bioshock working again. You are able to reinstall AVG; you simply need to exclude the Bioshock folder from scanning.
I purchased a laptop from gateway last weekend. They offered a free inspection from the geek squad to make sure that it was free from defects. I declined and then the rep mentioned that the geek squad would be happy to install "all of the stuff that you'll need."
"This round is about the billions of dollars they (think they can) earn from blueray."
So they're essentially abusing their customers with an unreasonable price to prop up their media branch. That seems like a great reason to give them $600.
"it is hard for me to believe that the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, though it objectively was (but it's hard to believe that the Wii is more powerful than the PS2, if you just look at a few good games on each system)."
Are you an irrational fanboy or a paid plant? It has to be one or the other because no one can deny that the PS2 looks like crap compared to the gamecube or xbox. As with everything, there are exceptions. GoW, Ico, etc are all beautiful and quite entertaining. These are NOT the norm though. If you compared any multi platform game from the last generation, it was pretty obvious that the PS2 had the worst hardware.
Don't bother. It's pretty obvious at this point that Sony has planted people like 'G Fab' to try to improve the Sony image. Good luck with that though. I, like many other people, have decided to permanently avoid them.
I agree that SecuRom is annoying. I even had to uninstall AVG in order to get it working. Having said that, it is an amazing game that I'm throughly enjoying. I plan on finishing the game and wiping my system to make sure that it is clean. It's unfortunate that we're forced to play by these rules, but it seems that we'll never be free of annoying DRM.
1. I wouldn't expect to see a game like Bioshock on the Wii. I have a PC that I use for 'hardcore' games. I bought my Wii for party and adventure games. Two different devices for two very different purposes.
2. How is it 'going against what the market wants'? Honestly, you come off like you're bitter because the Wii is most likely going to end up as the dominant seller this round.
3. I believe the last attach rate figure that I heard (several months ago) was 2-1 in favor of the Wii. In other words, people are purchasing more Wii games per console than they are for PS3 games.
I got to play Metroid for about 20-30 minutes yesterday. I changed the control scheme to advanced which allows for free look while you're locked on. It took a bit to get used to, but it made for a MUCH better game. It's still a bit twitchy, but it's far better than any other 'shooter' (on the Wii) to date.
I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you. I'm able to play this game without a hitch with textures and lighting turned all the way up, but Stalker destroyed my system with low settings. I'm actually impressed with how well Bioshock runs on 'older' hardware.
Agreed. I almost crapped my pants when I saw him. What made it even worse was that he deposits a corpse in the chair when the room fogs up. *skitter* *skitter* "Holy shit it's a body!"
I'm playing through Bioshock right now and almost crapped my pants in the dentist's office. I picked up a new plasmid and it played a short video. I turn around to leave and the dentist is standing directly behind. Just standing there waiting for me. I literally knocked over my chair. I thought it was scripted, so I reloaded to test it out. It seems that it was simply a freak occurrence, but it still scared me far more than any movie has ever done.
Acer's customer support is TERRIBLE. I purchased a laptop two days ago only to discover that the touchpad was broken. I eventually found a contact number on a forum. The rep flat out refused to issue a RMA until I had completed a wipe/reload, so I eventually returned to the store as a defective item.
I purchased an Acer 3680 laptop two days ago. I wiped vista and loaded XP only to discover that the touchpad didn't function. It took quite a while to find a phone number to contact Acer and then the moronic support had they gave me a hard time about getting a RMA even though he agreed that it was defective. I finally hung up and brought it back to store to demand a refund. I purchased a Gateway for $50 more and it seems to be working fine. The only complaint that I have is they do not provide XP drivers, so I was forced to track down the OEM drivers.
Here's a simple anecdote. I purchased a new gateway laptop for my wife yesterday.
1.6Ghz 512ram 80Gb Hd
We bring it home, boot it up and attempt to connect to the internet via my wireless network. IE locks due to lack of ram and the entire laptop halts. I tossed a copy of XP on it and loaded oem drivers. She's now able to do her book keeping, craft making and other simple tasks without the laptop crashing. Why does Vista require over 370Mb of ram when it's idle when XP sits around 150? Visa is a dog and it is not fit for the general user.
