This really only applies to those that CARE about furthering their studies. God knows how many people completely ignore their lectures to begin with, let alone find enough time to watch them online.
I do suppose it can give some of them a second chance for catching up on that "missed" lecture.
No shit. For starters there's the price point. You can get a PS2 for $129. Now, consider the Xbox360 price of $399 and you have huge savings right there. From those savings you have a plethora of titles that are amazing for the PS2, most of which are Greatest Hits which you can get for $30. That's about 10 games you can get at the cost of the 360 that still KICK ass. Who would want to dish out $500 for a game or two that are decent when you have a monumental collection of PS2 hits?
Like some of us/.ers, our internet... "desires" are widely known and we do get tired hands. A third robotic hand used as a backup will allow us to not only pleasure ourselves but maintain a free hand for commenting on awesome news like this.
Mainstream media thinks gaming is the cause of violence because you know killing someone in the game leads to the natural impulse of killing someone for real. *rolls eyes*
Considering how narrow scoped their support is for products and their willingness to try and force the consumer to purchase their newest products, they've supported 98 for _8_ years. That's a lot of support for an old variant OS that's nowhere near the functionality of today's more advanced OSes. *claps*
Last I worked for Road Runner, they use the Time Warner cable, the bandiwdth limit I believe was 250 megs. I found that utterly ridiculous for high speed. Their memo was nice too. It said something along the lines of in each area, nyc.rr.com gt.rr.com etc etc, there were about 4-10 users who downloaded over 100 gigs a month, so the limit was to stop them. What about the other people who watch streaming news videos? Hit the limit in 3 days of news and you're dropped down to 64/64:/
I've worked for a major ISP before doing technical support (Road Runner for those curious) I learned a little, most I knew to begin with. However, one thing that stands out is that bandwidth tests are inaccurate and never to believe them.
1. Your connection is: 5242 Kbps or 5.24 Mbps
You Downloaded at: 640 kB/s
You are running: 91 times faster than 56K and can Download 1 megabyte in 1.6 second(s)
Member Ident: CompID:221366006356
Test Time:: 2006/06/01 - 8:46pm
2. Communications 2.9 megabits per second
Storage 354.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.9 seconds
Subjective rating Great
3. 1531 Kbps - You 1531 kbps
1. testmy.net
2. Bandwidthplace
3. Cnet Bandwidth meter
As you can see they all vary. You need to take into consideration numerous factors. For starters how bogged down is the node your connection is on, ie how many people are on the same octet you're on. What's the bandwidth like from the site you're testing at? Is it receiving heavy traffic when you do the test or is it pretty quiet? Try doing a test on a server from your ISP, guaranteed you'll have blazing high speeds due to the proximity of the hub. Really, if I looked at bandwidth meter, I'd think I have a piss poor connection, when in fact it's all server dependant.
I never, EVER trust speed tests. You want a good way to test your speed? Go to Microsoft and download a decent sized file, like SP2. See what your numbers look like on a fast server. People kept making this fuss all the time when I worked for Road Runner.
"I did a speed test and it's low, I have a connection, FIX IT NOW OR I WILL USE ANOTHER ISP"
Seriously, go for it. So many people complained about speed tests it was ridiculous. Do a traceroute as well, if you're getting 10ms on each route you're fine. Most of the time it appears slow because of people not knowing how to properly defend their PC from viruses, spyware, malware, adware whatever you call it. Firewall + AV + Spyware Protection = Faster connection.
Quit your bitching.
Sure they're going to spend 6.2bn but that money could probably save a lot of poverty strickens kids in the 3rd world. Let's face it, it's a waste of money and Microsoft may make a few "good" products, and I mean a very few, but I think good PR would get more business.
Cedega already supports DX9.x so when DX10 comes out, I'll just wait for Cedega to upgrade to that and I'll laugh at all the people that wasted money/bandwidth on getting Vista just to have "fancier" graphics and play "next-gen" games. Go *nix community go!
I agree with that too. When I first got highspeed, in 1 day my brother and I downloaded over 10 gigs of data. _10_ gigs. When we switched over to cable from DSL, we had a cap of 10 gigs.... I would have to download ONLY what I really wanted, otherwise I'd be paying huge fees for overage. However I am back on unlimited and I pay $5 more a month for it on my base cost of $31.95. Perhaps making a tiered ISP, a more defined one with clear examples of each category.
1. Light User (1 gig) For e-mail and general surfing, no serious downloading.
2. Medium User (10 gigs) For e-mail, surfing, streaming videos, movie downloads, etc etc.
3. High End User ( 20? 25? 50? gigs) All of the above, but daily heavy downloading.
The ISP's could charge a base amount for whatever the pipe they get is, then add that charge based on the package selected.
Think about it. They try and merge a deal with AOL, and that bombs because Google gets the deal. They then scampy on over to the next "best" thing and they're trying to make a deal with them to combat Google. Microsoft is getting scared and this is just proof how afraid they are that Google is the proverbial needle to the balloon for Microsoft.
I sort of agree but don't. I think what happened was there was a chicken like bird, that someone got it's DNA raped by say radiation, and it of course laid eggs to begin with, but it's DNA was changed so much that it then became a chicken.
I for one am pleased with this bill. Net Neutrality is a very sensitive matter and this is exactly what needed to be done. I offer my thanks to all those that wrote their congressmen and urged them to consider the ramifications of such a law. This indeed will help maintain the Internet as it was meant to be and prevent the Teleco's from making even more money with their sometimes highly expensive services.
At long last, we shall live in a time of peace and prosperity, the costly war against the Spanish is now over!! Our children will grow up not fearing the consequences of War!
Don't people complain enough as is about the bloat from all the garbage on Dell PC's? Not suggesting Google software is trash.... but how many things will come pre-installed before enough is enough?
I had NO idea whatsoever that this was the best way to win an auction at Ebay.... Honest!

People that overuse their cell phone are usually braindead to begin with, so at least SOMETHING is happening in their brains.
Not my fake password I use for insecure places all over the internet! What ever will I do!

I can just imagine an ad by Ebay.
Want Ebay ad-space? You can BUY IT NOW!!!

P.S. I still hate Windows.
I always thought China liked to be on top.

Guess I won't be able to play Halo 2 on PC. ;) Not wasting my money on a glorified XP just to play ONE game. Maybe Cedega will get around Vista. ;)

If Bram says it's bad, it must be bad! Someone that gave us BitTorrent wouldn't lead us astray!

The concept that searching a blog site is an invasion of privacy is almost an oxymoron.
Yes, and holding students accountable for things that are discussed on the Internet is ALMOST a violation of their rights.
