You hit it on the head. This was why I loved SiN Episodes so much, it's dynamic AI was always spot on. You'd never die more then twice in a row, yet it would still remain a challange.
The trick is not to get to the toss-the-mouse frusturating level, yet stay just below it. This is difficult, as everyone plays their games differently. Dynamic AI is the future of gaming.
"Yes, I played it, yes, I was bored stiff after 3 months."
Ppff. That's not a problem with the game per say, it's a problem with the genre. One I share, in fact. I've played quite a number of MMO's, and I find that they ALL get extremely boring, it's just a matter of how soon. I've given up on ever finding a MMO that isn't a complete waste of time and money.
Quite frankly, I think that if we want to see the relization of the persistent virtual world, we desperatly need to grow beyond these immature fantasy romps.
I was under the impression that at the end of the original, Link was sent to a bunch of parallel universes. This was really apperent in the Oracle of Time and Oracle of Ages. They where very similar games, even with identical charaters.
It's just a lot easier to say that Link (and possibly Gannon) are now timeless entities floating around and doing battle in any of a hundred alternate universise.
Your missing the real test. Web browsing and email are not taxing on the system. But games are. There in lies the real test.
Quake 4 chugs along at 15 FPS in Windows, while in Linux (stripped down in blackbox) I get 27. A far more playable speed. All without that $300 upgrade.
I find Linux to be faster because it's not a one-size-fits-all deal. Linux I can customize, and tweak far more then windows, which is designed for just as you said; web browsing, email, exel. Making it do anything else without pretending to be a hard-core hardware buyer is a different story. Then its bloat shows.
Yes, think about it; no other non-flight/space sim really is 3d. They all deal with motion on a 2d plane. Now, that plane my have mulitple tiers, but they all pale when compared to the twisting convoluted tunnels. I don't nessisarily wish for a Descent 4, but I would like to see the idea carried on. SOMEthing to spare the PC from endless FPS/RTS/RPG's.
I remeber reading many years ago about this man who did something similar with Descent. At the time, Descent was a game so 3D that it was nausiating to play for some. This man rigged up a headband with mercury switches and mounted a moniter behind him. So when he turned his head, the screens would switch to the rear view. Talk about sensery intergration!
Hate to say it, but you're most likly not playing fighting games on your computer. If you are, it would have to be "One Must Fall", which would only add to your pain.
Here's my take: The "problem", as TFA said, will only be a "problem" if it continues to a point. Now, for a game to be used, someone has to buy it first hand first. In order for second hand demand to be met, then people will have to buy if new first (and then trade it in). If second hand demand is not met, they will be forced to by new (or just not by). It's a self-balancing system in my view. There can be no second hand market without a sizable new market.
I have one, and even if you don't use the gaming keyset, it's still the best keyboard I've ever used. Next to "Das Keyboard", but that's in a leage of it's own.

Isn't that why God invented parents? Or what that Al Gore, I forgot.
Real Time Stratagy games have cried to me for a touch screen like setting. Starcraft would rock on this IMO. Small ports of old RTS games would really make this worth my $$.
Also, online abilities would make an online game of chess more like sitting at a table and playing, only not seeing your opponet. Maybe a headset or a built-in mic would serve well here. Reminds me of the Ed's Chess set in a perticular Cowboy Bebop Episode.
If marketed and supported right, I see a future for this!

I always equate "Hitman" with "gamer" anyways, prefering stealth-based games myself...
I really need to get out more...

Actually no. It's nothing like that. For that level of gore, please see Soldier of Fortune (1 or 2).
Not that the games where terribly good, the non-PC ports, that is.
What this really means is that PC gamers won't get a slightly above-average game for another two years, right?
Boy, I wonder just how bad the graphics will look like then. (consitering graphics is about all it has going for it)

I don't belive Descent had support for anything like that. He also hard-wired all of this into an old keyboard IIRC.

Pidgens with cellphones eh? What's next, dogs? Seems like everyone and now everything are getting cellphones! Fi!
Rats.

Well, these laws are useless anyhow. Both in how they work and the need for them. This is the job of parents really, whatever the government says.

So your saying Jesus only PvE's?

Imagine a beowulf cluster of these things!
I don't know, I still think M$'s new music service is funny...
Never liked them anyways. 'Stuff was crap.
Your right. I was just kidding along with a common joke. It's hard to have a joke without misunderstanding SOMETHING...
It came from Redmond..
