XDocs and PDF are no more similar as Slashdot is to a banana!
Huh. Actually, there are striking similarities between Slashdot and a banana.
First, there's a thick skin to remove before you get to the actual, edible core.
Then, when you're done with you banana, you're left with more waste than content.
Last, the waste, unproperly disposed of, can be a slippery hazard to people. ...
Tomb Raider sucks big time. It's squarely aimed at 14-25 yrs old males. I wouldn't playtest it for money.
Given the chance, women will play like anyone else. My wife plays UT, WC3 and spent nights playing the Baldur series, Dungeon Siege and NWN. Now, she probably prefers games with a storyline like Baldur to the likes of Tomb Raider; but certainly enjoys some good frags on UT.
After the story on 30+ gamers, I am appalled by the single mindedness of many of the posts here.
Yes 30+ people play games. Yes, women do play games too. Guess what? There are even 30+ women who play! It's a big world. You're not alone. Probably not even the best. Get over it. There's room for diversity, and you may learn a thing or two.

I find it amusing that most goungsters here disbelieve the possibility that 30+ gamers exist, or even that there were videogames during the prehistoric times of their youth.
Well, there were.
Sorry to disapoint you, but all that has changed is better graphics, higher fps, and lousier storylines. Impressive graphics have made up for the lack of a story.
You should also remember that many mainframes had games. I played games on a Control Data Cyber 175 (I think), which was a multi-million dollar computer. Ha. I guess most of you haven't even heard the name Control Data (CDC).
About any computer I ever got my hands on had games. So, yes, there are 'old' gamers. [Rant]We just don't have 6+ hours a day to train on UT like you do, but we certainly do hold our own in FPS games, and more often that not will surprise the youngers in strategy games (real ones, like TA, not starcraft (FlameBait(TM))). And we have the means to operate game servers on premium hardware with real bandwith:)[/Rant]

You just summed up about everyting I might have wanted to write, to the point where we run our own UT server;-) Just because I haven't read that already, I'll add that I remeber "T-Rex" on the ZX-81 (Timex sinclair in the US). And my thinkpad is loaded with Apple// MAME image disks;-)
Joining the CoS is more analogous to gambling. In this case, there is no victim as such, since the person getting ripped off by the casino is there by choice and is a consenting adult. I'm not going to go very far at all to protect clueless adults from themselves. But when they pull a stunt like they did after 9/11, offering 'psychological help' to the ones in need, don't these people in shock desserve some protection? If you have the time to spend, I suggest you go read some accounts of former CoS members on xenu.net Most weren't "gambling", they got in the same way you might go and see a shrink. Everyone knows what gambling is, like smokers know they'll eventually die. Many people just don't know about CoS. The point is to make thoses people aware. I don't fight CoS. I just inform others of their doings. The choice remains their.
The beauty of it is that you can build your own. I did just that: WindowMaker (and I consider moving to Openbox) and some libs (not as many as you want). Runs perfectly, fast even on a small machine, has OpenOffice, Mozilla, and about anything you need. It is my only office tool (ie I don't have a windows somewhere to browse slashdot and bash M$) for tech (SSH, whatever) and admin (OpenOffice, fax,...) tasks. It's built on a redhat base, but my newer systems are built on top of debian (I also have a sparc on my desk, running debian and openbox). Give it a try someday;)
Well, you should read those document. To make it short, if you're not with them, you're against them. They seem to have an excellent intelligence department (some say superior to the government ones), and mess with justice decisions on a regular basis. They have killed people. But then, with your line of thought, child molesters should be left alone as long as they don't harm _your_ kids right? You're a scientologist heh? High enough up the ladder to talk about restricted materials? Or will it kill you?;)
The comment here already sum up what intelligent things were to be said. So I'll go for the rest: it is crazy running a stable DB on an unstable system. Run the DB on linux, access it from your windows machine. No problem here, and at least the DB will stay up when the rest tumbles down in flames.
Anyway, their games suck. Warcraft 3 is still less playable and has way fewer features than Total Annihilation. They have not improved since Warcraft2 (ok, the GFX got better. It's a friggin game, not a movie. We want to play, not watch). Starcraft sucked big time after playing TA. Few units, little control, small screen resolution. Bah.
They try to help you fit. You try and get a job here writing like that, you'll quickly learn that whatever the position, if you can't write properly, you can't get it. There is a whole world between what you do everyday with your buddies and what you can do in the real world. I talk (rarely write) quite loosely, but I am also very capable of giving a speech or simply talking with some suits in a most learned manner. It is a matter of who or where. If when required to you can't write in a suitable way, it's not because you speak a different language. It's because _you_ were too lazy to learn to write in the first place. It's only when you can play by the rules that you can break them. If you break them because you just don't know them and can't be bothered to learn, then you are the fool.
You don't sail? I do. On a small boat though:) If you have a chance, try sailing a Hobby Cat 16 - everyone I know who tried loved it. Dunno if it's a geek thing, I know that you might be exposed to the sun ('doh!) while sailing, but a lot of geeks I know love sailing to the point of being ready to be at sea for days (on a bigger boat than a 16 foot;-) without internet access;-)

Read Poul Anderson's books. Some are loosly knit together, some stand alone. All are worth a read. Actually, most Poul Anderson books are worth a read:-)
I didn't read the first edition. I have no idea whatsoever what these books can be about. Now re-read the "review" with this in mind. See? Or actually don't see? Some guy sells a book the reviewer liked but can't describe or at the very least give a good reason to read. You can buy it on paper or as a PDF. So what? I still have no clue whatsoever what this is all about.
It's a book. A review should allow me to decide wether it might be a book I'll like or not. I just know that I can buy it using Paypal. I'll go and read what's online. To achevie this goal, a simple link was enough.
Don't call it a review.
I can write tons of 'reviews' about books I loved: I can't tell you why it's good, it's just sort of Brin & Robinson come togeter, you'll like it! Even If you're not interested in reading a book, give it a try, you'll like it for no reason I can describe, but its a sure hit nonetheless! I could even add more exclamation points to mask my total lack of arguments by some textual manifestation of over-excitement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what will I have to do to get support?
You won't get any. I know a large (I mean large) company here that bought 200 dell computers as a first step toward buying a total of 1700 units. They had a problem with some drivers on one machine. Never heard from Dell again. Ask about support;-)
I must have read about this years ago in an SF book. Anyway, it's kinda stupid. They should have taken the idea to the next step: glasses are linked to the computer which adjusts the glasses filter in real time in sync with the monitor. Defeats the "someone could have the same glasses or contact lenses" or whatever. Bulky and costlier for sure, but probably way more secure. Display on the glasses could be easier as well.
Wrong - a carrier undergoing tri-therapy will not develop the disease in a very long time. He will if the treatment stops or when for some reason the treatment does not work anymore. Quite uncomfortable if you ask me.
Scientology was fiction, L God Hubbard was actually a decent sci-fi author till he started beliving what he was writing was divine (hence he started his religion).
Actually he was not believing. Some years before starting the cult, he said in an interview that the only way to really make money was to create a cult (and no, I don't have a link, but check my.sig link it's worth a read).

They don't think at all. So to keep on cashing in, they make bad remakes, with known actors that'll call the sheeps in. Money flows. Voilà.

Then they came for the communists and I did not speak out -- because I was not a communist.
