Umm, ever been to austin? I take it you have. Nevertheless, the weather is very nice year round. The summers are mild compared to surrounding areas (Dallas, Houston). Usually there are only a handful of days where the temp goes above 100 degrees.

I lived there for five years, and I would like to move back.

  6. If you want to read techno thrillers.. on Digital Fortress · · Score: 2, Insightful

I recommend the James Bond books. Sure, they are dated, but the provide an interesting glimpse into spycraft as it was 50 years ago.

    Some notes of interest:
-the books have almost nothing to do with the movies
-the books are short, about 150 pages
-not much action in the books
-Bond is not bulletproof like his movie counterpart

I get the feeling as reading these books that Ian Fleming writes about what he knows, and the material seems well reasearched, whether it be about rocket engines or toxic flora.

Anywho, just thought I'd toss in my $2E-2 while we're talking about what we're reading ;)

  8. Newsflash, indeed on Massachusetts' Big Brother Tech to Watch Taxpayers · · Score: 1

The middle class has always footed the bill. Income tax was originally only aimed at the upper class, but once the government got a taste of money, the tax was extended to the middle class. Ironic, since the middle and lower classes were the ones calling for the tax.

Historically speaking, the rich have had the resources and financial know-how to get out of paying a lot of tax. If you are going to play the game with the big boys, you better know the rules of the game well.
