Exactly- the tone, pacing, and storytelling Chibnall brings to the current series is sooo much a callback to the classic series.
It was like whiplash after the RTD and Moffet Years.
The show is lacking right now for more fundamental reasons that the so-called 'SJW'-ness of the stories.
A little canon and some story arcs are needed now, and to let Whittaker sort out what makes this Doctor HER Doctor. The
1st series of every regeneration can be a bit rough.
Here in the US we should, move out clocks to DST + 1hr so solar noon and clock noon are at the same time. Daylight will wax and wane as the seasons change, but there is not an excessive amount od daylight am or pm.
But mostly, it's just logical.
Up here in LA, where the 101 runs through City of Industry, Tascam had an office and repair center with an enormous sign you could see from the fwy. Several years ago it was changed to advertise a cleaning supply company (while keeping the same shape). Obv reflecting the new tenants of the bldg.
Closer to my house is a run-down sign next to a strip mall for a bank that hasn't been there for 20+ yrs. I hope it stays up forever.
I regularly have to use Macbooks for work and it's stupid that I need a bunch of dongles to make the thing at all useful.
Useful is sexy. Built-in is sexy. Broken and missing adapters is not sexy.
Better yet, move the clocks forward a other hour from DST so that solar noon and clock noon line up. After that, we can adjust it every five years or so to keep the Noons lined up, which is likely to be only @ 5 min.
The days will grow and shrink and everything is fine.
What is the problem with 24 time zones all set so that 12 o'clock coincides with solar noon?
The days shrink and grow as the year goes by. But there's no radical shifts like sundown at 4.30p. Or the jet-lag from springing forward.
I have whatever the last release was before AOL made it disappear, and several user-made ST-TNG skins (a major reason I still use it, apart from being small and simple).
It plays sound files whenever VLC doesn't butt in.
She may be 'keeping her nose out of it' for the time being, but she is clearly willing to press it on the general public as far as she can.
If she ever gained the Presidency, she could send this country completely off the rails by combining her psycho-fundy, christo-fascist beliefs with Karl Rove's policy of a (legally unsupported) Unitary Executive.
If you enjoy the Taliban in Afghanistan, you're going to love all the Millenialist, End-Times creeps that will be running our country over here.
...it was shown that this stuff doesn't do anything. It's just a combination of every herbal 'aphrodisiac' in one pill.
I admired the ads early on because they were so cheeky and it otherwise looked like a 'legitimate' pharmaceutical. Shortly after that they just became annoying. Besides, when you can get something like this without a prescription, over-the-counter (or worse, by TV mail-order) you must understand that it will not do anything useful.
Tungsten or Titanium would be good choices. My husband and I didn't want gold or silver either. Platinum is too costly and requires far too much upkeep (yearly cleaning and re-plating).
We settled on Titanium, but I think Tungsten would have been better choice.
Have your finger sized by a professional. None of these metals can be re-sized once carved into shape.
Whatever you finally choose, have them hand-made. There is no substitute for custom craftsmanship, esp for something so simple & symbolic.
Here in the States, you are always locked into a provider, even if the phone is popular enough to be sold be more by than one provider.
If the iPhone is supposed to be the future of computing in general, I don't know why it's only being sold as a phone. Or is it really only best used as a phone with a few other features? With the software base so limited, it's hard to tell. I would think Apple would sell these outright to people who want a portable computer (and then force you into AT&Ts maw if you still wanted to poen up the phone function).
Palm was brilliant to open development to all comers, but Jobs' need for control is crippling an otherwise highly advanced piece of electronics.
It's apparently easier to care about the nonsensical goings on in a Video Game, than it is to arrest George Bush and his gang for defying the Geneva Conventions and actively telling others how to torture people.
I can't get very excited about shooting even the most innocent cartoon character when this country's leaders live out GTA for real every day.
Until Dick Cheney and Condoleeza Rice are behind bars, Jack Thompson can go f*ck himself.
... on the air, I knew he wouldn't make it on the ballot. For a small group of people to decide who end up on the ballot like that just shows how little we need political parties in this country. Getting on the ballot need to be a little more democratic.
...if Tobey Maquire's enthusiasm for this high-profile franchise will wane as fast as his enthusiasm for 'Spiderman' did. The cast seemed really bored with their appearance duties for 'Spiderman III', and the work they did on the movie. If they can't be excited about their own work, I can't be bothered to see it.
This seems like a dumb move for Meguire when his next movie should be for someone like Ang Lee.
...that they cornered the market on transcribing DNA sequences into music notation in general, or by their parameters?
If they are talking in general, they have no leg to stand on- there's too much prior art, fictional and practical.
If they have a specific algorithm that makes a particular 'sound', it's still pretty craptacular.
These systems are used to keep people from taking carts past the store parking lot. Generally there is a painted line indicating how far you can go before the 'boot' will activate. I don't understand how I keep seeing K-mart trolleys miles and miles from the nearest K-mart, but it explains the need for the 'boot' system.
Make sure there are some bloody data ports where they are useful.
The gods know how many office conference rooms I have walked into where there are two power/data/phone outlets on the far ends of the room behind heavy credenzas, instead of in the middle of the room accessible from the table top.
Otherwise just blanket the place with WiFi and suck it up.
Experts say the best way to deal with it is to set aside one or two times a day to sift through and answer e-mail, instead of dealing with it the moment is comes in.
Treat it like any other correspondence or paying bills- if you have a large pile of either, you usually set it aside until you can deal with the pile in one go.
I have a Lexmark printer I bough refurbed for $50. The ink cartridges cost $30. Try as I might, I cannot refill my cartridges or use 3rd party ink. the printer simply will not pass ink under those conditions.
Consequently I limit my printing to the lowest quality setting on the backside of used paper. I also don't do much critical printing, although I did use this printer to print my wedding invitations.
Any decent digital recorder allows you to place markers and begin new tracks on the fly. The recording service sounds like a great idea, but none of the procedures are novel or innovative.
If you travel north through Scotland all the way to the Orkney Islands, you will find henges older than Stonhenge that you can walk up to and touch. They aren't as big, but nothing can compare to touching a man-made structure older than the bible; there are other neolithic and Viking sites in the Orkneys that you can examine with little or no supervision. Unparalleled.
Since this is the SciFi Channel it will contain one badly CGd monster and an aging cast member of a much better science fiction franchise, and ultimately put me to sleep. Or it will be brilliant.
Seriously, I just hope Stephenson is able to tighten up his writing and just tell the damn story. The 'Captain Crunch' scene 'The Cryptonomicon' just about put me off the rest of the novel, and did keep me away from his books written since then. Are there no editors left inthe publishing industry?
Private companies are allowed to d*ck the public around like this all they want. I go into office buildings all over Los Angeles for my job, and none of them will let you in without at least looking at a Driver's License. Sometimes they hold it (unsecurely) if you are from an outside delivery or repair service.
I asked LAPD and they said there is nothing to prevent private companies from doing this and they, as law enforcement, will do nothing to intercede.
In the end, there is no law about this either way, but you can be prevented from access to private property (and an airplane likely qualifies) if the owner wants to see or hold your ID.

Book and Book! What us Book!

Not Fox, but VH-1 or Spike, to be sure. I'd rather watch 'Ow, My Balls' n G4 than 'Cheaters', what the hell is 'Cheaters' doing on G4?
