  3. Options on Record Labels Struggle With the Album's Demise · · Score: 5, Insightful

I'll just start by saying that I'm a musician and a music lover and that an album that is put together as a piece of art is a beautiful thing - but just like any art that's put together for commercial purposes, an album that's designed as a vehicle for a few singles and some filler songs isn't.

Not every artist has the ability to release 50-70 minutes of truly compelling art, and most of the buying public is more than happy to listen to singles. Conversely, some artists seem to be constricted by the 78 minute limit of CDs.

It would be a good thing if the music industry was flexible enough to let artists release what they wanted (or wanted to sell) in whatever format (in terms of single/EP/album) as opposed to this 2-years = new full-length album mentality, some artists might like to release a single every few months, while some release an EP every year and others an album every few years.

I get quite upset that in our political system [at least here in Australia] I've got more say over who gets kicked out of Big Brother or Australian Idol than I do over the workings of our Government. After vote time, there's not a lot you can do to change the course of the Government policy [ie: talking to your local member is fine, but the party will do what it wants]. I would love to be able to vote individually on bills, or at least have my opinion heard in my own Parliament.

I wasn't brining it up like: "Windows is a great OS, just overstreched" - I meant that if a better OS (even a linux distro) was the dominant OS on the desktop user market thing then malware people would just work harder and create products that eventually got around all the more advanced security.

  17. Re:It's time.... on Microsoft Says Recovery From Malware Becoming Impossible · · Score: 5, Insightful

I'm a Mac user, and although I love OS X with all of my bits, I do think that if the same % population used it as currently uses windows, then there would be more serious problems with it.

I'm sure it's much harder to get malware running on OS X, but if it becomes the platform most of your potential audience are using then malware developers will just try harder to make nasties for Mac.

So, in this respect, sometimes I'm glad for Windows + IE - simply because I don't have to use it :D

I have an IRiver ihp140 and the recording function is brilliant. I can record as mp3 or (up to) 44.1Khz 16bit stereo wav using the inbuilt microphone, an external microphone (one was supplied, but any one with a 3.5mm plug is fine), an external audio source (ie: line in) or a digital audio source using optical in.

I've recorded lectures, a couple of concerts and when my band practices I records all jam sessions just in case we want to review something.
