b) Make performance the product (concerts) instead of the brochure (CD) c) Increase the value of the product (like linux distro's do) by selling life-time licenses in music stores, give a life-time guarantee on the hardware (CD), include extra "off line" art, etcetera. Just compare it to OSS. The first record company that only does special editions and doesn't whine about downloading might just sign up a few thousand of bands willing to take the risk to try to make money in a modern way.

You logic is based on the assumption that change in genotype is wrong by definition. Change doesn't have to be wrong. Especially concerning sequences of codons. Any combination assimilates a perfectly valid proteine. Now please explain why one in a (gaziturbobilliogiga)million of those changes wouldn't have a beneficial effect on the organisms chances of survival in its current habitat instead of killing/mutilating it?

Free market is leaking, and there are laws that (more or less) patch the holes. They're workarounds for some fundamental problems: There isn't an auto-correcting mechanism in the system that splits up companies getting too large and too powerful.
We could abolish those laws for the principle of it but you'll have to accept the consequences.
Try lobbying up against corporations now and consider what would happen if they were even more powerful? The governments would all be on their paycheck. That would be terribly out of control because the corps would then exceed their purpose in the system: To keep people working and to fill in a demand. Making the shareholders rich is only a trick to keep them lil companies popping up.
It's one big sim and the end-game hasn't been balanced yet. MS should get a nice screen telling "Congratulations! You won! Highscore! Created by Sid Meier!" and start all over again trying to beat their previous record.
Unfortunately that's not possible so there's some harsh rules to slow the winners down. You either live with it or fix the system. Go ahead.
Who's talking about parts of embryos? The cells get multiplied and implanted. Not killed. Every single stemcell can still become a unique human being when inserted into an empty egg-cell and activated. Like dolly the sheep.
So let's completely reverse the view: One could say the "poor victim" is granted nearly eternal life, because stem cell branches will never be discarded and are preserved in a lot of people. Hell, the cells might even wander around and end up in someones testicles and reproduce.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the first time the girl got layed. It's just that her mother found out this time and a teenage girl then does what works best: Play the victim role and accuse the neighbor/teacher/boyfriend/one night stand whatever really happened. I always have my doubts in cases like this. There ARE 14 year old sluts. There's no denying it. They get their tramp stamp tattooed when they're 12 and as soon as they have it they start showing it off in malls wearing hardly anything. And when the parents find out.... they can't handle their own failure and start victimizing their poor special girls.
I'm not saying pedophiles and assholes don't exist. They do and the law is the law. But who's fault it is when a kid ends up on someones dick remains to be seen. My guess is it's mostly the parents, the kid herself and the local school culture that are to blame. And of course the owner of the dick for not checking her ID.
And indeed sueing MySpace is like seuing the police for letting everything else happen on the public street "cause they didn't do enough to prevent it". Ridiculous.

This is exactly how it is in the Netherlands.
Here extra taxes are charged on writable media such as blank CDs. As a result, it now is allowed to make private copies of your own music.
Which is rediculous, that's like raising taxes on cars to stop fining speeding. As long as the money sums up.
