Two of them were really big at one point of time..enough to dwarf everything around them...then they imploded and became quite insignificant..now they are again showing signs of expanding back...
Come to think of it..even the Universe does the same..just over billions of years..
I think Vista should be shipped only if it is really in a condition to be deployed to corporate environments. We/.ers may be happy with their *nixes and macs.I myself is on mac but I know my data including credit cards other stuff are with different corporates almost all of them which are on Windows.
I've worked in multiple banks and I know most of the data is not safe enough from a determined cracker. I hope Vista don't come and make it easier for them.
I don't feel windows sending critical updates should cause any flare-ups. Putting your system on automatic updates and let windows update the system is easy enough. One thing I would like Windows to do is something like my Mac - Every critical release being a new version number for my OS - I really love the feeling-of-security when my OS goes from 10.4.5 to 10.4.6 [ It's another matter that 10.4.6 had made my system un-bootable and I had to reinstall 10.4.2 from disc ]
But I cannot understand why ppl raise a huge hue and cry when MS finally manages to update the OS. Same people alternate between Damn-you-fix-the-bloody-flaw-TODAY or go-rot-in-hell-i-WONT-apply-this-update mentality. I'm a mac guy,but lets give credit where it is due.
There are lot of java based online office suites. http://www.thinkfree.com/common/main.tfo/ is quite a capable one in terms of functionality. But they can be dead slow and that is something Ajax based suites have solved. Being a [past and part]java developer, I know I'm handicapped by the jvms and quite massive downloads I have to inflict on the user to get a java based office system lift off. And he will have to repeat the entire process if she cleans up the cache:)
Ajax is very lightweight and hence more promising - except, you are more trapped in the quirkiness of different browsers.
I guess almost all software developers are independent (Some people in my company still don't think so - that's off topic). How does any vendor qualify for this independence? Mostly, I feel what they plan to come out with is a guild for small businesses. Anybody who codes in their basement and sells on net using paypal or any business that has, say less than 10 employees. It seems a good idea but I am sure it won't take long for some corporation to sabotage it. You know, make it a breeding ground for good or innovative ideas and then buy it out. Already we can see the signs in Microsoft Office Live and stuff.
Google is trying to distract microsoft in a big way. Some small apps and strategically done publicity will have the whole world raving about "the Office Killer" from Google. It will surely hurt MS's core competency. At the same time it will also divert MS and others from concentrating on Google's USP, search. Not that I'm saying google spreadsheet is an eye wash. I have used it and I liked it. But it is not an excel killer. More akin to my cousin's final semester project. Cute, Usable but not an office alternative for vast majority of users - not unles it has macros ( yeah, I know they are the next in security threat after/bin/laden) and charts and all other frills.
You said you could get it done..more than half the world did not believe you. You have got it delivered within such a short span. Its sheer brilliance compared to certain companies promising certain products and the timelines getting forwarded by years. I remember a specific company doing that about a product called Vista:) Speaking about the OS, great that it uses fedora core.. Open Source for a Good Cause. Way to Go. BTW, fire the designer for that orangey look..uh..wait..may be this might catch on like the old ibook..keep him for the timebeing.
"bluetooth dongle" is a very common usage for a bluetooth-peripheral-that-plugs-into-hardware-and- verifies-license-AND-lets-you-connect-to-other-blu etooth-enabled-devices. Try googling bluetooth dongle or going to your friendly neighbourhood shop and ask for a dongle. By the way,if you ask for a bluetooth peripheral, you might get everything from a dongle to headsets to mice.
I can use my laptop and find out the location of each and every single strategic installations in the world. That surely does not allow me to log in to or enter any of them and cause mischief. Just because they were able to 'see' bluetooth device is not a security risk - It becomes serious only if they were able to pair to any of them, with or without a passcode.
But I remember P.Hilton or somebody getting plastered all over the net with pics hacked from her cell using bluetooth. Just can't find the link.
Majority of the comments here tells what-he-should-have-done-to-not=get-caught.
He is a cheat, he got caught. Serves him right. And with the amount he would have siphoned off, there will be enogh lawyers with snake oil to let him out. I do not think he need any sympathies and advice from/. crowd
Does not sound like a good strategy

AppleBerry Predicted?
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
I do not think apple will fall for it. Whenever apple trusted a hardware co on whom it had no control,it has failed. Recall ROCKR with iTunes. S.Jobs might pitch for a new phone which is branded Apple with hardware sourced by Apple. They always think BIG. No way I can see them being a part player for RIM.
I don't know if this was mentioned earlier but the new CSS somehow is messing up with earlier stories. Can someone click on the 25 worst products link on top of this page and let me know if they are able to see all the scores completely. I tried with couple of other stories and all of them seems to have their scores(or part of them) chopped off.
Hardly looks like news. And I'm already tired of Mozilla team not addressing the most critical issue - memory hogging. Brushing that aside is not going to help the developers or the users.
Ok, don't tell me I told you these Apple will announce Safari for Windows XP and above. A secret agreement has been reached between Bill and Steve where apple funds MS for Vista and Safari will be the default browser for MS OS's next five years. Quicktime will become default media player for MS
Rest of the story is still under wraps..especially the part where iWorks replaces MS Office suite
Atleast I don't think so. I mean, you cant get more original than Microsoft Joins OpenDocument Alliance, can you?
but seriously, what is the issue in whose format is the standard, as long as it is standard? The standard needs to be something easily defined, can be adhered to without loss in functionality and is extensible. If MS's XML satisfies that, good enough..just make sure balmer guy does not sabotage that once it becomes the standard
I feel books are better than reading something on my laptop..and taking notes always helps me remember things lot better than using stickies.. may be it is the extra effort u put..or something subconscious..but i could never replace my ibook with my notes...eventhough that was the main purpose when i bought it
''But by the same token, I have to admit to being a bit shocked by how childish Apple is about Vista.
Its not just Apple. Anybody who still thinks Vista is great is childish. I too share your shock

The url is http://www.thinkfree.com/common/main.tfo . Somehow a / crept in at the end.

I really do not want to see recorded ones. It is no fun and might be digitally altered. Want some live linux in action here. Yeah..bring it on.

Hmm..Why am I so pessimistic about this..

I hope it works on my ibook or mini - Hope it is not like other MS products.

this is still a pda

Good news for grand dad...viagra was putting a big strain on the budget last 4-5 years
