  4. Re:I'll... on The Death of the Silicon Computer Chip · · Score: 2, Interesting

That 350GHz chip is probably much simpler and easier to build than a CPU, but the fact remains that it'd be incredibly difficult to just try and switch from Si to some other semiconductor and be able to build something cheap. We're already starting to see the manufacturers switch their architecture to multi-core CPU's. I think that's alot more practical than trying to switch to an exotic material.

Might be tough to carry a live bird around with electrodes in its brain through swamps, and such. Don't think that would last too long. :) Also, I don't think there's many albatros' in iraq or Afganistan or wherever, but bats are all over the place.

Not a bad idea, I think there's already malware pop-ups that already do that though. The problem is how will people trust that message, or how to prevent malware publishers from tricking people into installing even more crap on their computers.

Alot of the newer arcade games are sort of VR'y. It's not completely immersive like your dream machine, but it's kinda headed that way. (that police 911 game comes to mind, where you actually have to crouch and duck to dodge bullets, or like someone else mentioned, the Wii is sort of VR)

I'm not sure how those big overseas fabs operate, but you can always have a 3rd party company make the mask, and then have them send that to the fab. It'd be a nightmare trying to reverse engineer something from a mask.

I think they're just following the same old "ipod" strategy. (which has worked so far) They keep adding incremental upgrades to the device, and get to charge you $400 for each new one. Why not keep that up, if people keep falling for it?

  16. Re:Paying others to advertise for them? on Radio May Have To Pay To Play · · Score: 2, Insightful

With radio, this is not necessarily the case - radio is nonspecific, and therefore is likely the medium in which the first exposure to new music will occur.
Well, that only applies to the stations that don't play the same 10 songs over and over and over and over and over again. :)

Haha. I had the same experience on the apple IIe. There was some chess game that I wanted to type in (all in hex) but first you had to build the hex editor which would apparently make things much easier. The program was several multi-column magazine pages long, and I never was able to get it to run. I had no idea if the hex editor was screwed up or the hex itself. lol
