At first I tried to just turn them off, but I'd turn one off, another would come on, and so on. Eventually I uninstalled them after I actually found them all, and now the wireless works just fine on the Windows version. That laptop is still filled with crap, only being a centrino tablet, it really bogs it down. In hind sight, I should have just wiped the thing clean and started from scratch. Popups, a desktop filled with icons, dozens of annoying programs running in the background, it was awful and took an hour to get under control.

Indeed, if these are such great works, why couldn't they survive 'translation' like so many of the great works of drama and literature that were translated from their original forms? Everything from Sophocles to Moliere was written in another language, but seems to hold up very well, despite their age and translation. It's not like the original text will case to exist.

I've read 3 complete works by Shakespeare, and continue to have trouble with the language. Perhaps I'm not the brightest guy out there, but depriving people of classic works because they aren't the best and brightest, well, doesn't seem a way to fix anything.

It's interesting how when the left groups together Middle America or Christians, founded or not, there is plenty of outrage over "arrogance" or whatever. However, when environmental issues come up, they have no trouble throwing everyone in with PETA, the ALF, or the ELF.

The fact is for the vast majority of environmentalists, maintaining and improving the current standard of living in the long term is really what is important. This is what the movement is about.

Have you ever noticed that both liberals and conservatives feel the media is biased? It's because they give attention to the squeaky wheels, and the views of the majority are rarely reflected. The media is after eyeballs, and outrage is easy to sell. Putting everyone with a concern in the environment in with the ALF, is the same kind of unfounded, reactionary FUD that you say you are so repulsed by.

Yeah, I have to agree. Despite the fact that I've been using Linux for several years as my secondary computer and router (though only now and again). I still have yet to really learn it. I mean, yeah, package managers help, but what about highly complicated things, like Apache and SQL? Sure, you might say that a beginner shouldn't be running those things, but how many GPL applications have come to depend on my MySQL? What if some piece of hardware doesn't come supported and requires some sort of patch? And don't even make me get into Dependency Hell. Sure, maybe there is an easy way to get these things working, but I don't know them, and the OS isn't much help.
I use Linux because it's reliable, I believe in open source, and the price is right, but, I'm not a comp-sci major, I can't spend all my time getting this stuff to work. I'm not saying we need to "Dumb Down" MySQL, I'm just saying that it just needs to be more helpful, if I want to run MythTV, I have to start services that I have no idea of the security ramifications, and if it breaks, I'm out of luck. I don't have a week to learn it, I have other things to do.
I understand the desire not to repeat MS's mistakes, but I think people could really spend some time figuring out what makes the MacOS and MS Windows easier for people to use, beyond just using 'wizards' or whatever. It's something else, the OS helps you beyond just providing a manual.
