Same thing with God - you see a bunch of seemingly miraculous things happening... something must be acting to cause those miracles. Ergo, God.
Or in the case of science - Dark Matter - you see a bunch of seemingly miraculous things happening - things you can't prove so something must be acting to cause those miracles. Ego, Dark Matter.
It's not good to cause interference across radio frequencies. It can cause more problems than knock out a television set. The model airplane listed in the news article was a giant scale biplane running a large gasoline engine (100cc-150cc). The plane experienced radio interference causing it to veer into the crowd at high speed.
Ever seen what one of these props will do to a person at idle? At full throttle it would be like running into a lawn mower at 80 mph+.
Doubtful. Apple and it's DRM that is in use for iTunes and the iPod will be a huge competitor. You can't argue monopoly when, if anyone, Apple holds the significant market share.
So, the guy who is accused of killing his wife/daughter in the USA then fleeing to England should not have been extradicted? By your sense of logic, Britain should have not allowed it and the US should not have had the ability to ask for it.
A lot of this comes from way back in the 80's when Mac was the only personal computer to offer high end software for digital photo manipulation and print publishing. Also, Mac was very big in MIDI interfaces for musicians to record digital music.
I have one friend who does a lot of graphic design work who owns a Mac. She loves it and will never change. Still though, she doesn't know anything beyond using the software to do what she needs. I have another friend who also owns a Mac. She is pretty clueless about computers in general and she doesn't even know why she owns a Mac instead of a PC. So, I'm going to have to agree that the majority of Mac owners just don't think in terms of computer security, networking, etc.
Yep, tried them both. Speakeasy swore up and down things were great until they realized that I come off of a fiber optic RT that is OWNED by the phone company. Otherwise, I'm too far away from the CO to receive service without going to frac T-1.
This is so true, it's only a matter of time. I remember when Webcrawler was one of the top search engines. The big difference here is that Google has a very high stock price. I certainly see Google remaining competitive for a long while but I think, as we've seen them begin to do, Google has to diversify and look for other revenue streams. Unlike Microsoft that can live off of their cash cows (Windows and Office), Google's cash cow (search engine) can be dethroned much easier as recent histor has shown.
I checked into getting it a year or so ago and just couldn't see the rationality in it. I have a DSL line because I hated my cable company - even to the point of switching to satellite tv.
Granted, I hate the phone company too so I was going to check into a VoIP solution just so I didn't have to pay the phone company "as" much as I currently did. So, the problem is - phone companies do not offer a data only DSL package. To even get DSL you have to have full phone package.
So, my choices...go back to the cable company. Nope!
Add $24.95 a month or so to an existing phone package just so I can run VoIP on my home DSL line. Nope!
Stick with what I have - which is what I did.
What happens if there is a dispute? Do you take it up with your bank? The gaming company? Does it go to court or arbitration? Game companies are not governments and should never be governments. Governments are not game companies and should never be game companies. (Ok, so the US Army games are pretty cool...but thats not really what I'm saying).
WOW! People are in debt enough without having to worry about virtual debt.
Just think about it, the dot com bubble burst because of companies with over valued stock failed to ever produce a real profit. A lot of people lost jobs and a lot of money - but the stock market, at least in the USA, has an aura of risk around it. Most people who play the stock market know the risks (granted, not all).
In this however, I can see total idiots losing everything they own - kind of like how people spend life savings on the lottery, but much worse.
It's interesting though that every single bit of value on this is based on virtual perception. How much do you want that plot of digital land to build a house on? Unlike real land, the only people who might see that as valuable are others in the same virtual environment which in the end limits the value. One person may see it as $50,000 worth of digital real estate while someone else would look at you like you were crazy if you told them "I'll sell you some land in a game for $0.25"
Sounds like a cheesey Pam Anderson movie/tv series. Take a bit of "Barbwire","Charlie's Angels", and anything from the 70's jiggle television era and we're there.
Now the monitors at work will have who knows what stuck to them. Face prints and oil from people scanning in their stupid looking faces (like being pressed against a window)....or worse *shiver*
Back in college I worked at Circuit City. I was a sales person in the computer department.
We wore a tie, blue blazer and had a name tag with stickers based on our certifications. They actually sent us for week long training at different times or when new products came out. We were tested and didn't receive each "icon" without passing the tests.
Granted, most of it wasn't difficult but it did require some general understanding of what you were doing! I was the only person in my store certified to handle the installs - I used to make so much money just installing graphics cards, etc. These days - how do you know the person knows what to do?
Best Buy introduced the "no hassle" shopping experience. They looked at things from a perspective of "everyone is an hourly employee, no specialized training - all you need to know how to do is work a cash register".
People who were in a hurry (most of the US these days) seemed to like the Best Buy way of shopping better than dealing with someone who could actually help them so Circuit City ended up switching over to the same business model. Notice the blue blazers and ties are gone? Replaced with kids in red polo style shirts who can barely point you in the right direction to find a product.
But hey, this is what America wanted. They didn't want to be bothered by someone asking them questions about what they needed.
Granted, some of the guys at CC did seem like used car salesmen but there were some that were very good at their job.
So with Google and their support of China...does this mean when I go to purchase a product using Google Pay that the cost will be calculated in Chinese yaun?
I was in a similar situation. I was on a project that ended up just screeching by on funding (big funding war at the time between two internal groups - one had the money and wanted to pay for it, the other group said they didn't have the money but it was their place to pay for it...whatever). Anyway, I was pretty much the last person on the team, doing 5 people's job trying to get an online store live. After a few management backstabs...I turned in my notice, effective IMMEDIATELY. I didn't care, I wanted out bad. One manager had lied about a meeting I had with her while speaking with *my* manager. I got back from lunch, everyone told me he was on the warpath and what was said. I talked to him, he blew up at me and I was gone.
Any way, I was a contractor - no one else knew the system and if I left without any warning the whole thing was set way back - they offered to double my rate for another month and promised he was to have no contact with me. A few months later, he was gone. Not a single group got a long with him.
*You* may find this boring, but by no means does that mean that *everyone* finds it boring.
You know, you're right. I guess the only people who find it boring are the people who matter.
Thanks for your commentary, no move along.

Or "How Google Is Helping You To Help Google Rule The World"
I wonder if it was someone like him that caused this Model Airplane Crash Kills 2 in Hungary

Now, is it because no one bothers to pay MSN to place their dangerous site in the search? Or is it because MSN filters better?

True, however as the subject of my post was titled "*MY* problem with VoIP" I think you're just restating the obvious.

Nah, my first ID just has karma so bad in the basement it's never coming out :)
of a Coke, Commodore 64, 2 1541 drives banging drive heads while listening to the music of "Fast Hack'em" copying 5 1/4" diskettes.
Disregard everything he said and submit a Windows XP themed /.
The irony if it got selected!!!
I wonder if any of the technology in this makes use of anything patented by Tivo. It should be interesting to see if Tivo ever goes after them.

Woooshh -- that was the point going right over your head.
:)
I think you just demonstrated the point of the article
