Wow, that's, uhm, unique. I'd say it was cool, but I couldn't even afford to read through the whole web page... (I did find it amusing - it gave the price in dollars, but mentioned free UK shipping.)
I had this happen to me once... I've got an old iPhone that I let my kids play with, and loaded the latest Angry Birds for them. While it was still downloading, one of my kids went back into the app store (having seen that's where I got stuff from) and while my password was still cached, downloaded a bunch of Star Wars game guides (though we don't have those games - d'oh!). Luckily it wasn't $200 worth (more like $8 or so).
So yeah, if a parent allows this to happen, even by accident, it's their own fault.
I actually got to see the city people out and about with their picks and what-not cleaning the snow out - had never thought about that being needed until a recent storm. The hoods over the lights I saw did have open bottoms. Unfortunately, the snow managed to build up in there anyways, probably not unlike how I had an couple of inches sticking to the side of my car. (That's my own darn fault for not parking in the garage...)
Will they really need a carrier subsidy? We've been able to get netbooks at retail in the $300 range; rather than drop the price over time, they up the specs to hold at that price point. If components continue to drop in price or increase in capability, shouldn't the specs that were hinted at be possible at the $300 price point without a mobile carrier?
I dunno - I've been using G-Mail and Google Apps since each was introduced, and this is the first time one of their outages has impacted me, or anyone else that I talk to (true, that's not a lot of people, but...).
That's not entirely accurate... I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 from an older distro, and ended up needing to replace my video card because it was no longer supported. (Now, it may be true that I could have spent some amount of time making things work, but I thought the goal was to have things "just work" for the average person.)
So, yes, it's true I didn't need to get a whole new machine, I did end up having to shell out for a new video card, which wasn't cheap.
Halliburton is on the list? If I wore a tin foil hat, I'd say the competition is rigged. But with MS also on the list, and no Diebold, ya gotta wonder - how will things pan out? Lots of evility abounds.
I can't begin to count the number of Panasonic products I've bought over the years (mostly because they cost less than Sony, JVC, etc.), and have had very few problems with the stuff...
Exactly... I have fond memories of pre-EA Ultima, and Syndicate Plus.
Then again, I remember EA having some of the more fun titles way back in the day. When did they turn evil?
Well, when you look at the current leadership in this country, you can see why we don't put much stock in evolution - it apparently hasn't happened yet.
(Now, where's that seperated at birth picture of the monkey and GWB?)
Increased DVD sales is the only thing I can think of here... $10/movie doesn't strike me as a major profit center - you've got the cost of the equipment to offset, the customer service rep's time, and then, as others have pointed out, either lawyers or the MPAA payoff. Doesn't seem to me there's much (if any) profit for Circuit City in this.
As such, I feel a need to say "Way to go!", and plan a trip to support my local Circuit City.
I want my Happy Meal phone!

Shouldn't that be Court System Judges Industry Association of America (CSJIAA)?

Given is's been a closed beta for a while, I really wish they'd expand to the USA.
A grand hack in the truest tradition. And the very end of the story brought a tear to my eye.
True, but I've changed some of my kids' diapers that made me want to barf.
Yup - running on a Via C3, and no problems what-so-ever. (Well, running might be stretching things a bit...)
Does that mean they used Hubble to find the costs?
I'm Bill Gates, and it is my job to do just that!

(I agree that it's good that it's voluntary, and keen that it's even an option, but I just had to try poking fun at the approval part of your post.)
I take it you didn't get that promotion?

Until some goth walks up to it, and it just goes completely blank. (or explodes)
Call the successful candidate at dinnertime to tell 'em to cover political campaigns/polls with the existing do-not-call lists.
For making computers, and CD and DVD burners... They're the real enemy!
