I play WoW. I am currently a raid leader & MT and previously GM of a large guild on Shadowsong. (Jade Phoenix)
I have met teens (12-18) that have been better behaved and more well spoken than many of the adults who also play the game (most of Cydonia complex for example). Our officer ranks, while primarily adults, also contain a few teens who have distinguished themselves and proven themselves capable and level headed individuals.
There are exceptions to this rule. One of our members Fordtow for example can spell or speak proper english to save his life....he grew up typing and speaking "text messaging" and it shows.
So out of a guild of roughly 380 people (470ish toons), we have a couple who we have to haul out the good old Booterang and knock some sense into them.
Other posts in this thread seem to poke fun that the only people who play MMO's fall into the stereo type of unwashed basement dwellers. I laugh at that and will say that roughly 1/3 of our guild are female (and yes that is a fact) and that is about the same across the other guilds from what I've seen. Moreover, most of the female players are also better people to play with.
So I guess the point I'm making, if that person ingame is being a well versed individual turns out to be an 11yr old kid, listen to them and you might just learn something new about the game.
I personally like the interface, but the technology backing the interface needs some work before I can see it being used in everyday life. I think they could expand upon the initial design using some updates to some new technologies we have all seen.
Screen: Replace the screen surface with the new 'ePaper' or thin film screen materials. Allow tracking of objects(& fingers) via a method similar to those laser based keyboards(just make it infrared). Have it talk to any standard PC via wirelessUSB or nextgen Bluetooth or even heck plain old wired USB at the start. This allows you to make the unit mobile. You take it with you and roll the mat out onto any surface and go to work. With some improvements into ePaper or similar tech to reach LCD quality this would be a hit. Or, develop an LCD surface to do the same thing, with the cost of flat panel monitors dropping like a rock you can get a 24-30" LCD panel for relatively cheaply, addition of touch sensors on the screen give you most of the interface (minus the "dot" recognition)
Device links: Connections via wireless device recognition or wirelessUSB/Blutooth would also work. Just have detected devices show up in a side dock (ala dashboard). This mean no cameras and will work with any consumer products already enabled with wireless communication. Wired devices would also supported using a dash like interface.
I guess what it boils down to, is I just don't see the need for large furniture and complex camera systems to get a system that would be more useful without them. The nifty part of this is the multi-touch interface and the devices intercommunication through the UI.
If you are deriving real world cash from these transactions, likely you are already being taxed on it. I find it a non-issue.
It would be all but impossible to tax a virtual economy of a game system. Why? Because the rules of the economics within the game world are not static. The developers (who are not governmental bodies at all) can change that economy or rule at whim. Raise the drop rate of X item here, reduce the spawn rate of Y item there and it plays havok with the economy until it restabilizes. Also who is to say x gold equals x dollars of real world money? The devs could devalue the market very easily by making any number of changes.
The point at which the government would have any say, is when said virtual item is sold for real world currency. (Ebay and the like.) This is already happening and already being taxed, or at least supposed to be taxed.
The reason is that the compressor pump & cooling unit is not rated for 100% duty cycle. Which means it might run non-stop for maybe a week or two but after that the chances of it dying are increased.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but to a search for "GPU waterblock". There are at least a dozen GPU waterblocks out there that will work for any watercooling system.
I can't belive anyone hasn't pointed you at Lanparty.com
The Guide: http://www.lanparty.com/theguide/
And lanparties by and large are not $$$ makers unless you already have all the gear (or can have it provided on a sponsor basis), advertising materials and such.
My biggest expenditure is for tables & chairs. I already own all my own network equipment and spare servers though.
The biggest way to make your party a success is to limit the number of games, run some contests (with prizes), and advertise the heck out of it.
Possibly. More likely you will have a CPU that can withstand higher temperatures without frying itself. Remember energy is a constant. It cannot be destroyed only changed. You are pouring loads of wattage into a modern CPU, a good portion of which is being converted into waste heat.
This tech won't generate less heat (shrinking transistor size does that). But it will means if your CPU cooler falls off that the CPU doesn't go poof in a ball of magic smoke. That and cracked cores are a thing of the past.
I use the "FreeBoard model No. GL3001" (Also marked as an "iFree")
It's a USB attached unit that uses RF wireless (900Mhz I think). Has built in Trackball and mappable mutli-function buttons. I can control my HTPC from two rooms over if necessary. And runs on standard AAA batteries.
Magnet is at the back of the R/W arm. (The arm moves when the control board induces a current in a coil of wire held between two rare-earth magnets. This causes the arm to move. By varying the current used you can precisely move the arm.)
Again with the stereotypes. Not all CS/Hacker/Technophile women are ugly. I've found it's usually the other way around and that most of them are damn nice looking.
Another example of a "CS/Hacker/techophile" chick:
And her Resume: http://www.plur.net/~rachel/resume/rachel-warren-r esume.html
I also know Raven quiet well. (Having been part of the crowd of freaks she hung out with during college.)
To my knowledge she hasn't compromised any system that she wasn't invited to do so as part of her job.
To futher definitions: Cracker is someone who compromises systems/programs/etc. Hacker is someing who security audits systems and either finds ways through said security or ways to work around said security.
I love the MS Strategic commander. Not for RTS's as it was marketed toward, but for FPS games.
I have been using one since shortly after they came out and the same unit has seen 4 years of heavy use and is still working perfectly fine.
The game I have found it best suited toward has been Tribes2 since I can have all my loadouts as a macro definitions makes time in and out of the inventory list non-existant.
I am still going to wait for the SLC-7xx series to hit the US. (a little birdy inside Sharp says sometime late this summer or early fall for an SLC-760 Equiv for US)
Lanparty.com has some very useful information for setting up lanparties and even weekend long events.
Check them out for more info.
I think I like the upcoming Zaurus better.

YOPY Arrives

I think I like the upcoming Zaurus better.
It uses a similar design to the Yopy but is MUCH mroe functional.
Here is the japanese site (in english..sort of): http://ezaurus.com/index.html http://ezauru s.com/lineup/sl/slc760/slc760_spec.ht ml
I like it's fold around style that allows you to have the screen in "widescreen" mode which is much more compliant for websites and writing text. It also closes with a clamshell like design that protects the screen. And the keyboard buttons are MUCH easier to use than the current gen Zaurus's and Clie's.
The new SLC-760 come with 128MB of ROM and 64MB of Ram and uses the newer XScale processor. Has SDCARD/MMC-Card and Compact Flash slots.

Your better off using a dorm fridge or similar.

I and MANY MANY other people have been doing this sort of thing for a LONG time.

In fact I started doing it back in the TNT2 Ultra days.
Use a 1U CPU cooler and you won't block more than 1 PCI slot at most.
Here are a few examples: (This from my old GF4 ti4200)

http://wyrdone.org/casemods/DCP00784_t.jpg
I've since done the same for my Radeon 9800XT 256MB card.
Using the Thermaltake Volcano 10 Cooler ( http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/si/a16
the card runs overclocked at 500Mhz at 50'C.
Next time change your site to not use dynamic controls before posting it to slashdot.

I work for a company that develops Document Imaging & Delivery software & enterprise solutions for the mortgage industry.
We reccomend the use Fujitsu M4099D or Kodak i810 scanners for large scale scanning jobs.
However you probably don't need the 50,000+ pages per day scan rates that we spec systems for.
For you I think I would reccomend the Fujitsu 4750 or Kodak i80 scanners.
Now if you are interested in our software, contact me off-forum and I'll put you in touch with our sales guy. ( dchubb@virpack.com )

I bought it a year or so ago from Directron.com
I'll bite on this flamebait:
Ask that same question of any IT security professional out there.
90% of the IT security people I know prefer using OpenBSD as their firewalls or VPN tunnel boxes. They are fast, reliable, and easy to work on.
And writing rulesets for pf is definetly MUCH easier than writing them for iptables.

Harddrive magnets make the best fridge magnets.

If you have applied Win2k SP4 then you should already have this patch applied. Just and FYI. /me is sitting happy behind an OpenBSD firewall.
