At my company, we use Compuware DevPartner Studio and have found it to be a very comprehensive package.
I have used it for performance optimization, memory leak detection, and resource misuse. I have not used its ability to find "dead" code, but that exists.
It plugs into Visual C++ 6 and Visual Studio.NET and it takes minimal time to get used to it.
Others may know of it from its legacy name "Bounds Checker"
I put OOo 2.3 on my wife's Vista laptop. It repeatedly shuts down for no apparent reason. It is very unstable; you can't do much in Writer before it craters. It is a blemish on OOo but it won't deter me from looking forward to 2.3.1 or even 3.0.
Apple's monopoly is that it forces you to use Apple hardware and forces you to use the Apple O/S. The customer has no choice but to pay for hardware and software merchandise that is overpriced. Apple forces you to purchase incremental updates to the O/S. Apple retires products after as little as 3 months. Apple really is a monopoly. I was not even considering iTunes or anything relating to the iPod or Apple's presence in online music.
The EU must be crazy. The root cause of this is a stupid explorer icon on the desktop. Get over it already!
Let's compare MS Windows to a TV for some clarity. Microsoft came preloaded with IE. A TV comes preloaded with a TV changer. Microsoft allows you to install Opera or Firefox. A TV allows you to hook up a cable box. Microsoft gets sued to oblivion because explorer comes bundled and is tied to the O/S in fundamental ways. A TV maker does not get sued because the TV channel changer is tied fundamentally to the hardware of the TV. It is generally accepted that you can add on TV channel changing functionality to a TV. TV's lull the masses with their boring content. MS lull the masses with their boring content.
They should go after Apple, the real monopoly. Steve Jobs has taken over Satan's role from Bill Gates.
He's obviously not a married man. No wife would ever allow the endless cabling and "ugly" devices needed to control these things. My wife would cringe at the idea of having a ugly beige box on the upper right hand side of the curtains. This would offend her in many ways. First of all, she gets pleasure from the act of opening curtains and being greeted by the sun. Secondly, it would have to match her style and not be ugly. Thirdly, cables are not allowed to be showing.
Chads are responsible for the invasion and war in Iraq! A more mechanically reliable voting system would have given us Gore as President and a more Clinton-esque response to Iraq. As a result the country wouldn't be bankrupt and dependent on China. With Gore as President 9/11 may never have happened.
I don't know why people are so quick to poop on every new and improved mechanism for voting.
How many people, who criticize the facilities which capture our votes, actually vote?
Step 4 is required for good cryptographic form of signing and verifying the timestamp data. If I sign a common piece of data and send that hash to the machine I am communicating with which also signs the same common piece of data I signed and then the hash values are compared for identity. It is one way to establish identity or in this case, detect that the system clocks between the client and server are close enough together to allow the next step of the algorithm to go forth.
There is a common negative problem on/. that people poop on someone else's ideas and work before they embrace them or say 'good job, keep up the good work'
I use TuneUp.com's product to fine tune all the aspects of Windows XP which include stylized settings for the desktop to take on a new look and feel.
These apps that are mentioned sound like a fun distraction for a while but if you are concerned that running 3rd party apps will chew too much CPU then check out
for an indepth look at windows xp services and which ones can be disabled. This site shows you how to make different hardware configurations (eg. gaming mode hardware settings or work mode come settings to mind). Not being educated on how to operate a MAC, I don't know if such a thing exists for it.
Why do PC users always respect MAC users but this is not vice versa? The right tool for the job if you asked me.
When I worked at a drugstore during the summer break while attending higher education they taught me one principle that I believe is true, and it applies here as well.
Every satisfied customer will tell 3 other people that they were satisfied at that store
Every unsatisfied customer will tell 7 other people that they were unsatisfied at that store
Going against the grain here but I have bought items from Best Buy when I felt like the retail price and the online price didn't differ by much. More-so when I didn't want to wait for an item to be shipped.
Hopefully this is a reference to the droid planet and the sentience of IG88. That bounty hunter was always a bada$$. It could be made very dark and gritty if Lucas would take a cue or 2 from the recent BSG series. Anyway, I hope that it is not some silly Lucas crap that is meant for 6 year olds and billed as mature for adults.
Just wanted to take this time to plug the mighty Zeppelin as the greatest rock band ever. Just listen to "How the West Was Won" and decide for yourself.
You are completely free to configure your automatic updates to query you about installing them. You are completely free to read each and every k/b article detailing the said update. You will find that each update is in fact described and does tell you what it will be updating. The real problem with Windows updates is that people have grown comfortable with not reading the fine print about what is going to be updated on the PC.
In the era when green machines powered by electricity and other renewable energies are hitting 0-60 faster than Ferrari's and Porsche's, we in the computing field should not settle for less than an alternatively powered PC machine that can compute and render with the best of high powered, electricity sucking, ozone whole creating PC's that use more power in power save mode than Nigeria generates in one year.
You all are missing the mark. Intel is not flooding the market with new products because it wants to have the fastest hardware. They are flooding the market with new hardware because the open source developers of drivers will not have chance in hell to keep up. But since they are catering to MS and Apple, those two will be on the know and will be able to dominate their respective brackets with hardware support. Of course MS will have the PC that everyone knows and loves to hate but more importantly, as it was pointed out by Rob Malda, Apple has given the LINUX world an uppercut with it's O/S and will now become the defacto NIX platform because it will support Intel
When everything in the linux world is going well you see the devoted penguins beating that drum and marching in stride. Now that someone has cracked the armor you really see a different side of life. So many of the respondants who use linux are scared because they don't have the faintest on what to do to fix the problem. At least with Windows you can go into the System and declick the checkbox that says "Allow remote connections". I wouldn't flame me for saying that because I consider an SSH shell logon equivalent to remote desktop connection. We are not talking about hacking to get in but we are talking about using the front door to get in.
My biologic age and music age have been diverging for about 10 years now and as an older 30 something I find my musical tastes and musical purchases are for music that is about 10 years old or older. It seems to me that the sticker price on a CD has been a fairly constant charge since about 1989. This is good for me because of American inflation the price after inflation has gone down even though the sticker price is the same.
As an adult I have observed 2 constant rules about music that always hold true for myself. 1) I tend to by the music that I wanted to by when I was much younger but could not afford. 2) I only listen to music that I purchase.
It turns out that when I buy music it is because I really want it which translates into much more frequent listening.
What I really want is a media player that just recognizes that it has media files and can play them sequentially or randomly. I'd like for it to have EAX or at least EQ settings. I'd like for it to broadcast to FM. I want this because when I go for my workout I just enjoy listening to my music. I don't want or need a UI. I want my media player to act like a HDD where I can drag and drop my music. That is all.
Which brand is right for me?
10 poke 53270,0

The only Apple based short stack that I want has a Mrs. Butterworth on it.
