Is like a poorly informed opinion based on a Slashdot summary.
And Daily Show isn't the only place gamers get their news from, they get it from Slashdot too =p
When I was younger and first venturing into the "scary" cyberscape moderated chats existed.
I remember hopping onto AOL 3.0 (this was right after the Eddie Werner case in NJ, so the internet was espescially scary) and there was a ton of moderated chat rooms for kids.
Then again back then there wren't a lot of MMOs or various other things to actually do online. Unless you were the entrepeneuring sort.
Fox licensed the premise to do their own show. Wife Swap was first and started in England. Trading Spouses just got more fame due to the crazy god lady.
And the family on last night was the Baurs, who created Talk Like a Pirate day (according to themselves and wikipedia anyway). If living like a pirate means being proud to live in a flea-infested home I'll pass.
So it looks like the PC is coming out ahead in this console generation. I think I'll just shell out 150-200 bucks for a vid card upgrade instead and wait the extra month for the X-Box games to make it to PC. All the good Wii games are gonna be on Gamecube anyway (Well Zelda, that's the only one that really matters) and I have yet to see a PS3 game worth 600 dollars.
Sorry console industry, you can only push it so far (SEE: Jaguar)
Everquest, Ultima Online, Meridian 59, Realms Online. THOSE were more than "just a game" in fact, the game was kinda secondary for those MMORPGS. Those were all about immersion and interaction (though Everquest went downhill after Planes of Power).
Now ALL MMOs are just games.
It's funny most of the people who rank Sisko low can't seem to spell his name right.
Sisko is by far the most human of Captains. Then again that goes for all of DS9 where the crew was actually about a group of characters rather than "alien of the week" like TOS, TNG and VOY.
I can understand the draw of WoW myself, having sunk 5 years into Everquest starting way back in 99.
What I really can't get is it's mass appeal. Why are so many people playing it? As far as MMOs go (and I've played every fantasy one and a couple non-fantasy ones) it's relatively bland in gameplay and immersion. It's a lot more game than it is "immersive world".
Maybe what made MMOs so great 7 years ago and appealing isn't what the majority of players actually wanted?
I'll go back to waiting to get into the Vanguard beta I guess:(
Wouldn't said kiddy porn have to actually exist on your own personal hard drive to get in trouble anyway? Otherwise all they have is "this IP accessed this website" if they got it from the website's server. If there's no evidence on your computer that it wasn't accessed by a wardrive how can they prove beyond reasonable doubt?
Star Trek Birth of the Federation, a TBS from 1999 still has me hooked, although the multiplayer support has long been dropped. It even has a relatively dedicated (though slow working) group of people developing a sequel that can actually be modded!
I can see that copyright law is clearly a priority for early education. Not grammar, or mathematics, but intellectual property and coporate interests.
I guess all the top execs of the tobacco companies jumped ship to the recording industry so they can keep practicing their "hook 'em while they're young" campaigns.
This is why there should be a cap on how many laws a legislature can pass in a year.
Well this and the upcoming NJ ban on smoking in a vehicle.
Honestly the legislations could spend their time better by going through the books and getting RID of useless crap laws like this that already exist.
As long as it's tasteful and fits in with the setting I don't see a problem with it; a Nascar game with adverts on the cars, or hell even in City of Heroes I wouldn't mind seeing McDonald's or other stores out there on the streets of Paragon.
Wow this console generation is sounding pretty crappy all around.
PS3 - We have what could be an awesome console that's going to be handicapped by a ridiculously high price point (reminds me of the Saturn)
360 - We have a rehash of a previous generation console only with slightly better graphics and a few hundred dollars more and no good games
Wii - A system where many of us will no doubt lose the controller to wherever the TV remotes vanish to. And this is honestly sounding to be the best of the three.
Sega where are you!?

Wait...what? Kids are looking up kiddy porn?

I'm sure they were happy, until they got their pink slips.

$499 + Price of game + sales tax = closer to 600 Just because they throw a bunch of 9s at the end doesn't make it cheaper.

Sisko irradiated a freakin' planet just to piss off the Maquis. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Solosos_III/
Sisko>Kirk>Picard>Janeway>Archer (Sorry but I couldn't take Archer seriously having seen Bakula in drag on Quantum Leap)

All those damned illegal aliens coming and trying to change my language! Speak english! We define what a planet is dammit!
Do 11 year old girls frequently wander into Hacker conventions with no prior experience or idea of how to hack and start picking locks?
That's gonna take the market by storm for sure.

Don't DVD distributors already do this with regional encoding?

Don't you watch the news? The Mexicans stole all those jobs!

You're all forgetting that in another American revolution or some such thing the military would be split as well. Thus equalizing the playing field.

Well if they keep overestimating the price an extra 33% that means the Wii could be as low as 134.99!
It's a lot easier to spend 1/200 dollars every 3 years than 600 dollars every 4 or 5
Then run for office, get involved. Don't just bitch on /.
