And Daily Show isn't the only place gamers get their news from, they get it from Slashdot too =p

When I was younger and first venturing into the "scary" cyberscape moderated chats existed.

I remember hopping onto AOL 3.0 (this was right after the Eddie Werner case in NJ, so the internet was espescially scary) and there was a ton of moderated chat rooms for kids. Then again back then there wren't a lot of MMOs or various other things to actually do online. Unless you were the entrepeneuring sort.

Fox licensed the premise to do their own show. Wife Swap was first and started in England. Trading Spouses just got more fame due to the crazy god lady. And the family on last night was the Baurs, who created Talk Like a Pirate day (according to themselves and wikipedia anyway). If living like a pirate means being proud to live in a flea-infested home I'll pass.

So it looks like the PC is coming out ahead in this console generation. I think I'll just shell out 150-200 bucks for a vid card upgrade instead and wait the extra month for the X-Box games to make it to PC. All the good Wii games are gonna be on Gamecube anyway (Well Zelda, that's the only one that really matters) and I have yet to see a PS3 game worth 600 dollars. Sorry console industry, you can only push it so far (SEE: Jaguar)

It's funny most of the people who rank Sisko low can't seem to spell his name right.

Sisko is by far the most human of Captains. Then again that goes for all of DS9 where the crew was actually about a group of characters rather than "alien of the week" like TOS, TNG and VOY.

Sisko irradiated a freakin' planet just to piss off the Maquis. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Solosos_III/

I can understand the draw of WoW myself, having sunk 5 years into Everquest starting way back in 99.

What I really can't get is it's mass appeal. Why are so many people playing it? As far as MMOs go (and I've played every fantasy one and a couple non-fantasy ones) it's relatively bland in gameplay and immersion. It's a lot more game than it is "immersive world".

Maybe what made MMOs so great 7 years ago and appealing isn't what the majority of players actually wanted?

I'll go back to waiting to get into the Vanguard beta I guess :(
